Also just want to say, the 991 will be unveiled August 24th. These spy shots of the 991 are in the 997 shell, so no design features are revealed here. Currently there are spyshots circulating of the production 991 running around Zuffenhausen with nothing more but tape covering the head lights and tail lights...
These are early shots when Porsche was testing the 991 in the 997 shell (it was so early that no 991 shells had been conceived as of then). If youre wondering the 991 will have 350hp (3.4l), the 991 S 400hp (3.8l). The 991 S will run the Nordschleife in 7:37 in its best configuration. The wheelbase is 4 inches longer, and the roof is 1.3 inches lower, much 918 inspiration. The new sportexhaust inspires awe. There is MUCH more to be said, but in short, the best 911 ever. The date is August 24th..
@Hades75000 agreed... 997 Carrera with the PDK in it.. sitting in show rooms 4months ago.. you need to wait till 2012 for the new 998 which actually is all new.. only thing not new are the doors from a 997 carrera... everything else new.. new steel... longer and wider.. 3.6 and 3.8 motors are all updated
Looks like my 997. Subtle changes at best and alil more hp. This is what makes Porsches unique, the silhouette stays true to form of a 911 thru the years!
I've read in the regular Porsche magazines that, internally, Porsche will call the new 911 either 998 or 991. I agree with some of the other posts below that it may be hard to know what the new model will look like, especially with all the disguises and the fact that you never really know WHICH aspect of the new car is being tested on any one spy shot model. Many think the new 998 will have the double-bubble roof of the new Sport Edition.
that looks like the testing and renderings for the mkII 997, not the 998. the 998 is still in testing and has had a massive wing covering the new adaptive spoiler at the rear. Also the rear lights on the current 998 are completely hidden (well, changed to not give away anything).
There are no differences. If anything, the actual car photos are test mules using the existing 997 structure; the actual design of the 998 won't be seen for another couple of years.
i like the new back end and the wider looking body. makes it look more exotic, which was what porsche needed, because they are such awesome performing cars.
MadWolf is right, this is the 997.5, or the one that came with the PDK and tail light bar. The 998 is longer, and looks like they made the engine hatch more horizontal. I think it looks brilliant.
What? No, first, the 993, then the 996, and now, the 997, and 3 or four years from now, the 998. Where did you get 911?? On the Porsche site it evens says "998"
Some interesting designs there. The rendering definately have a Ferrari flair to them - almost 512 inspired to me. In the spyshots I'm not sensing much difference. Rear roof panel may be slightly more flat.
LOL you're f430 crossbreed is not really a rendering... BTW none if these spyshots at all are indicative and are merely 997's with the running bits of the 998.... Speculators are saying that it will be smaller of semimonocoque construction and a 2.0L TT engine... Doesn't really coincide with those large wheels so I dunno...
Well, I just considered it one LOL, well, I'm sure the changes are gonna be much different, Porsche hasn't made one body style in wich the car look ed some what the same, the 993 and the 996, they came right after each other, and they barley resemble eachother.
what's going to be the difference between the 997 facelift and the 998? the 997 facelift was a facelift and new engines. that's what these spy shots look like too.
so i guess i was right 3 years ago???? 991

i think the new turbo will produce a kind of 550 hp or even 580 hp and cross the 0-100 kmh in less then 3.2 secs with the pdk
the carrera s would have a 400 hp and cross the 0-100 in 4.0 secons with pdk and sport plus actviated
oh i can't wait for theese beasts !

I think Porsche is rumored to be making a titan. I heard from my cousin who lives in Germany that they are testing a 4.0L 680HP turbo.

The last true 911 was in 1989. Personally, the hi-point of the 911 was 1970-1972 as drivers car.
