The original is definitely by The Postal Service, written in 2002. Iron and Wine covered it before it was released as a single in 2003 by The Postal Service. They included the Iron and Wine cover version as a b-side on the "Such Great Heights" EP.

Hope this clears up any confusion surrounding the song :)

I think this actually might be by Iron and Wine.... At one of Ben Gibbards solo shows he played it and mentioned it was written by Sean Bean A.K.A Iron and Wine.. But who knows...

Well according to when the songs were released by the bands, The Postal Service was first. What Gibbard may have been saying was that he was playing the Sean Bean version which is definitely different from the Postal Service version. Personally, I heard the Iron and Wine first, and when I heard the Postal Service version I thought it was just a sped up remix. Live and learn.
