QUINOA IS PERUVIAN,,,not bolivian,,,it just so happens that peruvians who migrated to bolivia in earlier times, took with them quinoa as well, thus the production of quinoa over there too
Quinoa is one of the most efficient supply chains for a specialty commodity:
Retail is $3.99. Of that $1.10 goes to the farmers. It costs .25 to clean, .15 in freight and customs from Bolivia, 3 cents in quality control, 80 cents in packaging. That leaves 40% margin split between processing plant, importer, distributor and wholesaler.
- quinoa is grown in Colorado and France. Farmers in Bolivia get fair trade prices currently, but as supply form other sources increases there is a risk.
I wonder how much they pay to those poor farmers... And then they sell it to us at exepncive prices:( Has anyone tried to grow their own quinoa in US, Europe?

yes quinoa farmers are amongst the poorest in the world, with quinoa as one of their only commercial crop options. Colorado and Canada grow some quinoa but very little: 99% of quinoa in the U.S. is imported.

@KOSMOS390 Quinoa has grown for over 4,000 years in the Andes- Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Chile, Colombia. You are right, it's not only from Bolivia.

Quinoa is an Incan super grain originated from PERU, highly regarded in that culture for its nutritional benefits. Just a quick fact, Thanks :)
