  • Another year has passed since my initial comment, my how time flies! The song is still immaculate with excellent production (kudos to T-Bone Burnett) and flawless strumming and humming! Plus, as always Rachel Weisz is to absolutely DIE FOR! So, thanks again to carann5 and You Tube for the upload and space, and carann5 Happy Anniversary from 9erfandex!

  • @9erfandex

Thank you so much for such a wonderful comment! I really appreciate it. At least 7 people do not agree but I have fun creating videos to songs I love and that's the most

    important thing, don't you think?

  • Still listening to this after three years. Thanks!

  • sssshhhhh! if you listen very very close .... you can hear God,... he's crying. Awesome!

  • The voices of Angels singing! Simply spine chilling!

  • big scenes of mass mayhem, gigantic. I've enjoyed this film @ MovieWatcher[.]US

  • Thanks so much! Good to hear from you again...and I agree that they are just about the most incredible duo ever. Who would have thought these two could blend so well together?

  • Stupidest column of comments i've seen in about a month.

  • Beautiful vocals -- harmony is fantastic.

  • Great earthy production and performances. Roots music done in the modern day.

  • Are they having sex?

  • If they want to!

  • hey folks ! check out my video response.

or click on my name to listen to a real goody !

    promise you won't be disappointed.

    carann5 liked it too.

    many blessings to all.

  • Plante and Krauss have voices that blend nicely. I'm glad to hear that Plante hasn't lost his voice or damaged it due to the kind of singing he did in the past. This song can be improved on, though. They're not hitting the notes together at times.

  • I think the collaboration of these two is fantastic and their version of this song is the best. Their Raising Sand album is one to add to your collection. I sure hope they get the grammy for this one. Thanks for your comment!

  • Thanks for your response. Their work together has come into my life like springtime after a hard winter, in a musical sense. They have endeavored to explore much of the range of popular music. I hope they've enjoyed themselves as much as they have provided enjoyment for me.

  • So, friend deQ... you, are an arbiter of timing? Ha! getta grip!

  • Really a terrific sound. Neither bluegrass nor blues nor rock but a blend of of muscial cultures. Beauty with a brushstroke of rawness. Lovely.

  • Great job! Thanx

  • Thank you!

  • Boy they sure are killing the blues, big time.

  • Lol

i'm tryin to figure out if this is bluesy or not either haha

  • haha! yeah, but at least they are enjoying themselves.

  • Ive been hitting this upload since I realized who was singing this, my first guess was The Cowboy Junkies, when I saw the commercial on T.V. Nice job carann5! Great sound and the images provided are easy on the eyes! The production of the music is impeccable, kudos to T-Bone Burnett, so it figures! Thanks as always to Y.T., this is just so damned fine, and beautiful to boot! It just makes me want to say: ROCK ON SHINDIGGERS!

  • If you enjoy this tune you need to get yourself the whole album. It's an instant classic for me. I'll be listening to it until I'm an old man I'm sure.

  • Thanks so much for your comment!

  • yes you are right and woth going to the concert, went last may in Brussels with my 15 yeras old daughter, front seats and it wa FABULOUS....

  • Youtube seems to be pulling down a lot of good videos. I just want them and the artists to know that because of this post, I bought the best album in ages.

This album is worth the money.

  • I agree with you. One of the best albums this decade.

  • amen...i have been leaning to get raising, but now for sure..thank you for this post...i hope ebody fids it ^_^

  • it's been a month since you've posted this, i really hope you got this album, it's amazing.

  • Just beautiful, I think I'll get this CD. I've heard a lot of Rising Sand vid tracks on YT, it sounds really great. Thanks for posting this lovely video.

  • And thank you so much for your comment!

  • very nicely expressed, thank you for sharing.. i adore this song.

  • Thanks! I hope everyone checks out your channel. You have such a sweet voice!

  • This is very nice

  • Thanks John!

  • Yet another fantastic song ....from a fantastic album.

  • Thanks Tojows.

  • Listening to this song makes me really happy. ;-) Love their voices together.

  • Glad you like it as much as I do, Janine! Thanks for your comment!

  • Wow Rachel Weisz is a knock out, this could be the real thing I think I am in love

  • I agree! She is very pretty. Thanks for commenting!

  • at :44 that chicks g string is showing

  • Happy to know you paid that much attention to my video. :)

  • This is a John Prine song. This is o.k. but I still like John's version better...big Prine fan.

  • The first time I heard this song it was by John Prine and I really liked it. But after hearing this version, I must say I like it even better. Thanks for your opinion and comment!

  • Right! The first one I heard was the John Prine version. I also liked it very well, but this one is just fantastic! I've held off buying the Plant/Kraus c.d. but, guess I'll have to procure it now. By the way, who wrote this tune? Anyone?

  • I heard the John Prine version first also in a movie I saw. I checked it out and found this version which I like much better. The song was written by Rowland Sally. Thanks so much for your comment!

  • What was the name of the movie? I googled the people in the video and came up with The Constant Gardner.

  • You are right, Joanne. The photos are from The Constant Gardner with Rachel Weisz and Ralph Fiennes

  • Hey carann5 just a little heads up from a longtime admirer: John Prine's version is OK, but I like Prine, This is infinitely more gratifying of a dancing and listening experience, and yes Rachel Weisz is to die for! But Chris Smither had a really sweet treatment of this classic tune on his "Blue Guitar" collection, By all means feel free to check it out! Happy Listening My Friend! And by all Means: Seasonal Salutations!

  • very nice here.....

  • Thanks for your comment!

  • Thanks!

  • love the song, but im not really sure whats with the video, really coulda done without.....very lame compared to the other raising sand videos

  • Thanks for commenting. I respect your honesty.

  • Actually, I rather like the video. Some of the clips relate to the words and as for the others, well I think Rachel Weisz is great, so maybe I'm biased. Also, I like the way you've included the words in the sidebar. Sometimes I just follow them. I think the chorus is repeated twice at the end, by the way,

  • Thanks for commenting. Some of the photos of Rachel and Ralph are from the movie, The Constant Gardner. I just thought they went well with this song.

  • For some reason I'm starting to like the video almost as much as the song.

  • I can understand that. The song and the video have been put together beautifully. Thank you, carann5.

  • I enjoyed the video. If I just wanted to hear the song, I would go to Itunes or Rhapsody. I love seeing everyone's take on the visual aspect of the song! Don't be discouraged Carann, your videos are the bomb!

  • Thanks Judy! I'm not discouraged because I realize that everyone has his own opinion.

  • This music from these two legends is intoxicating. It's time for me to finally buy this great CD because everybody's been talking about it for months and it's still so hot. Great video to compliment this warm song.

  • I'm sure you'll love the CD. These two just blend together beautifully. Thanks for your comment.

  • robert plant..wow. hard to believe this was once the charismatic zeppelin frontman..now his voice now gives off a tender, mature tone..hm i like it. a change for the better compared to other rock vocalists who faded into oblivion after losing their youth.

  • I agree. I remember him from the past but not that well because I wasn't a Zeppelin fan.

I hope he continues with this type of music.

    Thanks for your comment.

  • What an unlikely pair, but what a beautiful blending of voices in such a lovely song. Thanks for posting!

    Laura

  • And thanks so much for commenting, Laura!

  • Hey,you`re welcome. Keep posting the good stuff.

    Laura

  • Hey Laura! You're so right. I've been watching the TV show "Can You Duet" and haven't heard any of them blend together like these two. Thanks again for your comment.

  • simply perfect!

  • Thank you!

  • Again, i must say it again, beautifull,it makes my heart weak, but i cant stop to listen to it

  • Thanks for taking time to comment!

  • Forgot to say. If you play this again, listen the quality of the backing group. It's just awesome and complements the singing and the lyrics perfectly.

  • Thanks for your comment. I loved this song the first time I heard it which wasn't that long ago and their voices blend together beautifully!

  • no the thanks is all due to you for posting this song which ive just recently heard on Jools Holland show, and straight away went to utube to listen to it again thank u so much, it sums me up caraan, you must be a sensitive person also!

  • I saw Robert and Alison singing this live tonight on Jools Holland's show. On the face of it, such an unlikely pairing, but in reality near perfection. There is so much feeling in this song. Yes indeed, sad but beautiful.

  • aw.....sad but beautiful....

  • I work at JCPenney, and we recently got our American Living collection in (overpriced brand by Ralph Lauren). They had us play the commercial for it on a loop at the checkout station, and this was the song on the commercial. I have to admit, listening to the first verse and chorus over and over again all day gets old fast. However, when I finally got the CD and had the chance to listen to the whole thing, I have to say that it is now one of my favorite songs on the album. Thanks for posting!

  • Listen also to Shawn Colvin's great version of this piece on the album "Covergirl".

  • I will check it out. Thanks for commenting.

  • lmao at the dance!! dude in case u havnt noticed, it doesnt fit in with the flavour of the song

  • I thought it did Mintoo, because she's "killing the blues." Don't you get it?

    Thanks for commenting.

  • haha I agree, that dance does not fit the mood of the song at all.

  • this song has the most beautiful and the most heart-breaking harmony ever. even though i have no idea what the song is about lol

  • It is about heart-break and a broken relationship. People see them out and about and seeming like nothings wrong but they're just hiding the broken heart or in other words, "killing the blues." Thanks for your comment!

  • Beautiful! Ah ah ah, hell, I think I said it all!

  • Thank you Reggie!

  • Heard a bit of Killing the Blues on a commercial for American Living (JCPenney?). My favorite song among many on Raising Sand. Love the Krauss/Plant harmonizing. Love Plant cause he's still the sexiest man on the planet!!

  • I just heard this song last year on a movie I was watching but I believe it was by John Prine. I like this version much better. I can't agree that Plant is the sexiest man on the planet but I do love his harmony with Alison. Thanks for commenting!

  • You know,I really like the way you respond to everyone who sends you a message. Your mother must`ve taught you well.

    Laura

  • Thanks for your comment, Laura. It may be a John Prine song, but I still like this version better.

  • this is suuch a beautiful song

i listen to it over and over again and i never get sick of it

  • I hear ya!! I can't get enough of the song...

Over and over and over and over .....

  • I agree! Thanks for commenting Ana!

  • Wonderful, wonderful song and rendition. I could not believe when I first heard this, 2 days ago, that it was Robert Plant since I have never been a Led Zep fan. The beauty of the voices brought tears to my eyes. Silly video but thanks for posting the song.

  • Thanks for taking time to comment!

  • what a great duo who would have thought they would have done this amazing

  • this is awsome great album i just love both their voices now im sure many zep lovers r gunna try n give this song a bad rap n shit but fuck em this a beautiful song

  • amazing song.

  • Thanks for commenting!

  • I am the "somebody". 1973, paul showed up at the house looking for his old love, jc, (who eventually subdued my love too). I dreamed him swinging, bouncing, & killing...just like the song says...I said he was lost in love...drank beer at Jagger's with him; he left with his guitar, wrote songs with Roland Sally. My little claim to fame? jc now has a studio down the street from John Prine who sings this too...Shawn Colvin covers the song best, imo. There,I said it...I still dream sometimes...bc

  • Thanks for your interesting story, Buddy!

I like this version much better than John Prine's. Never heard Shawn Colvin's but will give a listen to it. Is Roland Salley the same one who plays in Chris Isaak's band?

  • Yes, he has a web site Rowland Salley...

  • I love John Prine...I remember seeing him on Austin City Limits when I was a kid. Have liked him ever since. It seems everyone covers his songs.

    Laura

  • great song...super DORKY ASS video!!

  • Thanks Kim!

  • great song....super DORKY video.....
