I'm new to computers and I am in need of a water cooling system for my video card and I don't know what I need exactly. What all parts are needed along with this water block?
you need a pump, a radiator, tubing, fittings for the waterblocks and a reservoir and a fan to mount onto the radiator or more then one fan if you get a larger one which you should because the 4870 could heat a small house.
Hi trubritar, in this setup was the CPU air cooled or water cooled? I am considering liquid cooling just for my 4870X2 and didn't know what the issues could be with adding liquid cooling for GPU with my Cooler Master V8.
not trying to be too negative you really need to add more detail to a review of a waterblock imo, that had no more info than the koolance add release (and i know they get alot of bad press in the WC community) when doing a waterblock review try to make it look less like an add - we al know WC makes things cooler - but how does it compare to the aquagratix single slot block or DDs or EKs for flow or even temps (with the same rad etc)
if i wanted to put the case back on the graphics card would i be able to have both the water block and the case on it? with of course a little bit of modding to the top
My HD4870 overclocked to the max 790mhz -1100mhz mem, running folding@home in display window 97% GUP activity max temp 55 degreese, stock air cooler with fan hacked to 80% speed.
Its a very effective cooler, it only sounds like a garden leaf blower, so i can crank my speakers up to cover the noise. Still you dont need water cooling to achieve low temps and high clocks.
I just subscribed today watched all your vids. building my first pc this week, Fatalty 650i motherboard, pentium d 915 2.8ghz, 680 sli ready power supply, and 2 evga 8800 gs graphics cards, this has run me bout 351 dollars...I wanna over clock alittle till i can afford liquid cooling....wanna know best config as far as waterblocks for my vid cards so i can oc them...plz help
LOL, dude destroy pentium D it will bottleneck your video card and u will have TWO? dude for that motherboard get a Q6600 sience its 1066fsb same as your motherboard.
switch out that pentium d for a pentium dual e5200 or e2200 you can over clock these quite well and they consume less power, create less heat, and perform better
Finally they released the waterblock for the room heater. I'm sure with a voltmod, you could get the clocks higher by using something like ASUS Precision Tool. I know that the limit for most GPU overclocks using ASUS Precision is about 1050. I can only push my 9600GT to 775. Voltage, not temperature is the limit for mine.
FOOSAG: What do you think? lol of course the companies send him stuff to review. Alot of companies actually let reviewrs keep the products depending on how well known thery are
wow, havnt seen a RSOD before lol, i hope thats a good thing if i havnt :P, anyways great review might get two of these when i buy my dual 4870x2's :)
TRUBRITAR i would like to apologize for the last comment I posted on your video comparing the 4870x2 and Gtx 280. This was a great video and I'm glad you decided to get the Koolance block. I think I'll get one too. (once i rob a bank)
Thanks much m8 excellent video 10 stars if I could.
Now youve evened it up, well according to the ati fans as im sure the lower temps wont give more fps like some people think, anyway next vid finish this once and for all. Kick some X2 ass

did u overclocked the ATI? I heard that this would not be so efficient...
SimsFreelancer 3 years ago
yes it isn't very efficient. If you try to overclock the memory over 100mhz you will see artifacts. But you can easily OC the core clock 150mhz more.
arvutihull 3 years ago
yup arvutihull said it right.
oc of memory is no go for me :( 100mhz and it starts to artifact and maybe over time it crashes...i am on air. lol

I have my 4870x2 clocked at 846/1120 with the fan set at 35% and the card loads at mid 60s.
You don't need to spend money on those expensive ccoling solution just raise the fan speed.
helldrell666 3 years ago
What Software are you using to OC the card?
Thanks
trubritar 3 years ago
Im using the ATI Tray Tools.you can control the card's clocks, voltages, and fan speed.
helldrell666 3 years ago 2
trubrutar, make a comparison vid between the 4870 and the 280gtx.I think you'll be surprised of how the 4870 does surpass the 280gtx even in crysis.
my powercolor 4870 gets on stock clocks at the same res. and setts you tested the cards on about 28fps.
Thnx for the vid.
