I haven't watched this DVD in almost 15 years yet I find myself watching this and saying to myself what a poseur I am. I listen to recordings I've done with several different bands and just when I think I'm all Danny Carey and Neil Peart, I watched this and reminded myself who my #1 influence REALLY is. Dang.

When I was first taught to play drums... back in the day, my teachers were stuck on the "heel down" method on the bass drum. I always thought that was bogus, because I just didn't have the same amount of control. Turns out nearly EVERY drummer I admire, Phillips, Weckls, Peart, etc., plays "heel up". Watching these YouTube videos has reinforced that!

@utahdrumtech Yes....it's a preference thing...but when you play quiet it's more logical to play heel down....but if you need power heel up is a must

drummers like JoJo Mayer even plays heel down when he needs to....and Simon even explains in the video if he needs to play dynamically he plays heel down and up...especially in the warm ups he displays on the video

I don´t like to "rate" drummers or any other musician. I am a huge Porcaro fan, as a Phillips fan. But at this time i like Simon the most. I´ve seen him live, right in front of the drumset, and he is just amazing. Incredibly tight , smooth and pecise. Just amazing.

the one I like the most is VInnie Colaiuta that's as far as my taste goes. I like Simon second. actually all the drummers at THIS level are very skilled all of them have something different to offer to the world of music and they are all my sensei. They're above beyond comparison they are just very unique, there is no better is just a matter of who you like better. as for tony williams there's no double for him. Just saying
