  • I need the Lead-Sheet or any score for git and keys. Is there s.th. like that available??

  • I haven't watched this DVD in almost 15 years yet I find myself watching this and saying to myself what a poseur I am. I listen to recordings I've done with several different bands and just when I think I'm all Danny Carey and Neil Peart, I watched this and reminded myself who my #1 influence REALLY is. Dang.

  • What DVD is this from? Gotta get a copy and fast. :)

  • Simons drumming is amazing, I've always liked his abstact virtuosity, his feel and chops really make him unique, I salute you Mr Phillips.

  • When they say he "returns" - where did he go? I know that's Russ Jackson on bass, who's the guitarist?

  • @Jay435 Anthony Jackson on bass, beast!

  • @Jay435 Ray Russell

  • If we could only bring a great drummer from the 30's to see this I'm sure he would marvel at how far music has come.

  • porcaro and phillips...stop comparing...both are masters... shut up metal blues band

  • I can't figure out if he's a righty or a lefty, either way it doesn't matter, this guy is a monster drummer.

  • @mrvn52 He's right handed, but plays open style.

  • Que buena melodía... que gran tema, simon grande!!!!!!!

  • FOR FUCK SAKE PEOPLE BOTH JEFF AND SIMON ARE GREAT DRUMMERS, NOW SHUT THA FUCK UP ABOUT THEM..!!

  • porcaro sucks.

  • @MrBohica1980 Respect Porcaro! You Suck!

  • I find it mind boggling that somewhere out there are 2 assholes who "dislike" this.

  • Forceful yet technical. A precise, driven musician who inspires the novice to pick up the sticks, as well as the pro to push the boundaries.

Easily in my top 3 favorite drummers.

  • INCREIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Simon kills with his chops, but he is also tasteful

Billy cobham and Tony williams are my Favorites

if I just get a little peice of all of them in my playing

that would be a dream,I am 54 and i am still learning...................................Play on!!!!

  • One of my all time favorite drummers, this guy is sick.

  • The last section (starting around 4:35) is so harmonically rich.

  • @JonP1961 I agree!Does any one know if simon writes his own music?Does he write out the parts for all of the instruments?Love the suspended chords he uses here and in other pieces.

  • @gebass6 I know that he wrote his first solo album, "Protocol," but I don't know about any of the rest of them.

  • @Emelie99 Exactly.

  • Fuckin Awesome

  • DAMN!!!

  • amazing!

  • @Emelie99 APART FROM AKIRA JIMBO,,,,

  • It takes only four bars and you'll know unmistakingly it's Simon. One of the most musical drummers ever imho.

  • I love Simon Phillps and everything about his playing. This is no different. Amazing stuff from one hell of a drummer.

  • Worst. Looking. Band. Evar!

Set apart from the sound of course...

  • who's the bass player

  • @projb Anthony Jackson.

  • what are those small drums called to his right?

  • @xXRASHEEDXx they're called octobans

  • @projb thkz

  • @xXRASHEEDXx no prob tama makes them and remo makes roto toms

  • @xXRASHEEDXx Octobans.

  • @JCinWilkes thkz

  • this guy is fkin sickly beastly he`s a mutant ninja drummer

  • what brand of guitar is ray russell playing?

  • @Tracebebo looks like an Ibanez, one of the S series

  • - Impecable -

  • I WANT THAT SNARE!!!!

  • When I was first taught to play drums... back in the day, my teachers were stuck on the "heel down" method on the bass drum. I always thought that was bogus, because I just didn't have the same amount of control. Turns out nearly EVERY drummer I admire, Phillips, Weckls, Peart, etc., plays "heel up". Watching these YouTube videos has reinforced that!

  • @utahdrumtech Yes....it's a preference thing...but when you play quiet it's more logical to play heel down....but if you need power heel up is a must

drummers like JoJo Mayer even plays heel down when he needs to....and Simon even explains in the video if he needs to play dynamically he plays heel down and up...especially in the warm ups he displays on the video

  • reminds me of the Tv-series Miami Vice or other Cop-movies :D

    great song !

  • great groove!!

  • The best drummer for me. He's Passion and versatility is really a force of nature! Force Majeure. 3:30-3:36 OMG! improvisation!

  • terrible,increible, imprsionante

  • Anthony Jackson ... master bassist meets Simon Phillips ....master drummer. Just be impressed.

  • AMAZING = THIS

  • both are awesome drummers....very tight drummers and good groove........just that they have their own style...all drummers have to have their own style...so stop all, this shit...

  • He's simply the best, just so comfortable. Wish he was in my band lol

  • great sound, incredible drummer...

  • I don´t like to "rate" drummers or any other musician. I am a huge Porcaro fan, as a Phillips fan. But at this time i like Simon the most. I´ve seen him live, right in front of the drumset, and he is just amazing. Incredibly tight , smooth and pecise. Just amazing.

  • he is a very hard working person thats for sure no doubts about it. I mean for him to develope himself that much and this video is from like 1990 or something so go figure.

  • he´s a true grand master drummer the others only are others

  • I could watch what he's doing from 5:46 all day.

  • jeff porcaro was the best drummer he was the smoothest drummer on earth!

  • This is a Simon Phillips video, shut up about Porcaro already.

  • Jeff was a fine drummer, but i fail to see what he has to do with a Simon Phillips video, stop all this silly "who's the better drummer shit" they are both great drummers, it's not a question of who's the best, besides this is not a TOTO thing, it's Simon solo.....Get it ?

  • WRONG!!!

    You areeee soooo narrow minded.

  • I have the original dvd remastered in 5.1

If you watch it sitting on your coach you hear the octobans behind you!!!!!!!

  • one of the best top 3 drummers in the world...in no order..Simon Phillips...Dave Weckl...Mike Portnoy

  • grazie tanto Imar!!

  • I think he's got the most tasteful compositions ever...these octobans just sound amazing....glassy sound...

  • Great song... Simon... out of this world.

  • awsome !!! the break on this tune is amazing..i also rate DENNIS CHAMBERS come on now people lol real octopuss @ work....lol.....PEACE !!!!!!

  • fucking amazing, a true master of the open hand technique

  • I just wonder if he can play with Allan Holdsworth, would that work?

  • It would be really nice to find out!!

  • Wow, good thought. Holdsworth's best playing was with Tony Williams, the greatest drummer on Earth until his death. Simon is arguably the heir to the throne now. Great player.

  • the one I like the most is VInnie Colaiuta that's as far as my taste goes. I like Simon second. actually all the drummers at THIS level are very skilled all of them have something different to offer to the world of music and they are all my sensei. They're above beyond comparison they are just very unique, there is no better is just a matter of who you like better. as for tony williams there's no double for him. Just saying

  • I couldn't have said it better.

  • thank you so much for uploading this!

    simon the best!

  • Dream Team !!!

  • hi great simon phillips

  • thats one massive bass!!

  • Simon is the best drummer in the world, i have seen he in a clinic, he is very very amazing and funny, I have learned much from he... excellent dynamics coordination and sense of music, he is a step ahead to all

  • This song freaking rules! Simon is AMAZING!!!
