So moving and beautiful. I cannot listen to this without my eyes filling with tears. Gorecki did a wonderful job bringing the poetry of that poor, innocent young girl to life.
How can we listen to such moving words that remind us of a time of unfathomable evil yet stand by while our world spirals towards another encounter with such evil? I don't understand.
Because we have suffered a disconnect from personal responsibility, and assumed the state will look after everyone. But as history shows, A government taken for granted will metastasise into an institution of extraordinary venom unto the people that placed it there when ignored. America will have to face some dark truths, Particularly, Dick Cheney should be in the Hague for crimes against humanity and wilful treason.
I agree, but not only Cheney should be in the Hague but all the staff of the Bush Adm. and with them all the tyrants that supported or acted as instruments of their crimes, like Colombia`s president , the spanish president at the time of the war in Irak Aznar, etc.
The haunting soprano voice is that of Dawn Upshaw in Henryk Gorecki's Symphony No.3. Part of this moving piece are the words of a prayer, written on the wall of cell No.3 in the basement of the gestapo's headquarters in Zakopane.
"No, Mother, do not weep,
Most chaste Queen of Heaven
Support me always.
Zdrowas Mario.
Beneath was the signature of Helena Wanda Blazusiakowna, and the words, "18 years old, imprisoned since 26 September 1944."
yes, i agree that it is the best. i have heard two or three other recordings, and often find the soloist to be a little flat in parts of the 3rd movement.
@SinCities156 Murdering, land stealing, lying Fascist Twat!! Missappropriating any suffering you can find. Stealing attention from genuinly oppressed minorities, in order to further the ever continuing 60 year old holocaust industry, and its raison d'etre for the persecution of the true, indiginous inhabitants of Palestine!
""Eternally God`s Promised Paradise." I think that's on hold for a while!Anyway, i think that promise was withdrawn about 2,000 years ago! Some think it still stands

no, it is not dawn upshaw. i am not sure who it is, but this is clearly not dawn upshaw's voice or face.

Sorry, you are of course correct. I meant to say that the CD I have, is the voice of Dawn Upshaw, which in my humble opinion is the best.

No generation should be allowed to forget the indescribable pain and loss our ancestors went through at the hands of tyrants.
This piece is beautifully harrowing.
Their name and their sacrifice liveth forever in the music of Gorecki and in the chapter of time.
God bless them.
