Ive been sober now for about 1½ months, ive been drinking for about 10 years. Ad ive never fellt this sick in my life. But the fight goes on!!! Hang in there!
10-10-2011 left ICU on 11-02-2011 transferred to long term care facility. 11-03-2011: MRSA in sputum C-DIff, pnuemonia from aspirating. New fever, delirous..infection? Alcohol? withdrawal from drugs given in ICU?? No clear answer. Very very sick, wondering if he is going to die, as we were warned. Young people, please change your lives now. 35 yrs. together to end like this???? Hope this makes impression. Alcohol is the only withdrawal that you can die from.
10-10-2011 seizure-withdrawal. fracture T-7. Icu. Life support, pneumonia, c-diff. 10-19-2011: off ventilator 4 point restraints. 11:00 a.m. heart: beats per minute: 180 (180!!) Cardiac meds started. no sleep in 33 hours. does not recognize family members. sweating. hand mitts. feeding tube. 59 years old.
This is nothing to fuck with. 10 days in a coma the 1st time. Then a year later 7 days in a coma. 30 days in the Hospital each time I think i learned my lesson this time lol..

@Matty3697 when you get addicted to a substance like alcohol, benzos, or opiates and you drink/use quite a bit everyday for a prolonged period of time if then you just quit cold turkey you get really really sick... this guy was soo addicted to alcohol that when he just stopped, his body couldnt function without it and threw him into a coma. Its as bad as quitting heroin or xanax cold turkey.. to avoid getting sick the best way is to ween off slowly using meds IMO
Chicapirata 100 :: REALLY!! One day of DT's?? I had them for 4 hell bent days.. I guess you are on of the lucky, I know loads of people who have suffered, but never only one day
when i come off my binge drinking... i very nearly feel like i'm going to seizure i lose use of my limbs and can't talk, especially if i'm in a crowded place; do not and i repeat do not ignore the signs of alcoholism, and if you drink after that first day then for the 2nd 3rd 4th 5th, when you eventually have to come off it. it's living fucking hell. ps - i'm only 18 and it's scary shit
@Jodie2223 I hope you seek help, J. It's never too early or too late. You never have to feel like that again. You are not alone. You can easily have a seizure. You can blackout and not know how much you drank & get alcohol poisoning. You're not a normal drinker, hon. You can stop the madness, look online for a meeting nearby. It can't hurt hurt, it might save your life. You don't have to waste years doing this - millions of young people are getting sober now. The smart ones. Bless U.
@F13rce187 I'm sorry you feel like that. I hope things get better for you, so you can feel the joy of living instead of wanting to make it all go away. Bless you.
@chicapirata100 You only felt awful for one day when you detoxed? If you don't mind me asking, what did you detox off of? I'm just curious .. if you don't want to tell me here, feel free to inbox me. If you don't want to tell me at all, feel free to tell me to mind my own business. LOL I've been through it too, so I'm just interested in other peoples experiences. :) And if you're still clean after your detox, congrats. And if you're not - keep trying, you'll succeed when you're ready.
a lot of alcoholics don't drink to get drunk...they drink to avoid being sick...just like heroin, cocaine, morphine...they don't get 'loaded'...they just don't want to be sick
@777Giovanna yeah but didn't they drink to get drunk when they started out? Hey I have the alcoholic gene, being part Native American, part Irish. I black out when i get really drunk. You know what? I haven't been that drunk for 13 years. I made a choice, just like every drunk makes a choice every time they pick up that glass. Am I a teetotaler? no. I drink nearly every day. But is it a "problem"? I guess that depends on whether someone else thinks there's a problem, right?
@d3ejmz No, Giovanna, it's not whether someone else thinks it's a problem. It's whether YOU think it's a problem. And if you're wondering about whether you have a problem, chances are you do. You're correct, you have the gene. If you decide it's a problem, you know where to go. Good luck! :-)
@Takito666 yeah ok weed is harmless but these drugs (alcohol, benzos) are fucking addictive. You wouldn't understand how addictive they are. EG cant go to toilet or even leave the house without 5-6 beers. Grow up you cunt
@robertpisarek I'm not preaching .. I've smoked pot before. Alot of it. But, weed *is not* harmless. It's just that problems stemming from it are rare. My ex had alot of problems when he smoked and had even more problems when he tried to stop. So, it's not unheard of.
you can not ween off the booze. it is frequancey not quantity. i tried that myself and am entering deox in a couple of hours. there is a drug called librium they use now that produces GABA which helps the brain not go into seizures, but the delerium tremmons is still gonna be bad. week is not as safe as you think... and i think you name says it well..... dumbtrooper
@hatchetklown11 how did it not work for you.. was it because when you drank to deal with the withdrawal you couldent stop drinking it... thats the only way i see it wouldent work it worked for me many times all you do is drink when you start getting shaky and panicy and just have a few shots or chug some red wine and your good for a few hours. if you only drink when your body needs it slowly your body will adjust
@TheInfamousCanadian everyone has different experiences with detoxing and their body handles it differently - no 2 patients are the same. What works for one may not work for another.

Did anyone give him some seizure medicine? He could have died going cold turkey. I dont understand why hes going thru this so hard with the medicine out there.. Yes, withdrawals cause seizure, coma..then possible death.
Maybe I am wrong but wouldnt seizure meds prevented his seizure that he had before this? Was he given any meds for this?
That comment is right. The only way I could keep myself from having severe DT;s when I wanted to quit drinking so bad was to wean myself off. I've gone through it before and it is so freaking scary. I have only been sober for 31 days now, but I think this time is THE time. I don't EVER want to have to go through that hell agian. I pray for everyone who is sick with this disease and especially the one's who want to get well.
@natureperson420 It doesn't take years to get this way, I had DTs and nearly died from a two week binge. If you drink hard liquor and don't eat or excericse, this can come on rapidly...you can't depress your metabolism and then expect it to jump right back to normal. Terrible stuff...
@littleturttle: No no no. They call it a "disease" in order to make alcoholics feel like their not at fault for having the addiction. It's sort of insinuating the idea that you "caught" alcoholism, and it's not really your fault. Trust me, I'm a reformed alcoholic. I know what that shit is all about. It was ENTIRELY my fault.
We all have an addiction : sugar, fags, sports... Smtimes we think it's just a little need but in fact, it appears because we suffer of a lack...of love, self confidence... At first time we think that we are guilty because we have begun to...but in reallity it's a need who grows because of a lack. And the more we consum it, the more the need grows ! (I m french so my english maybe bad)!
@littleturttle suite : Yes we're a bit responsable of our actions but to be dependant of smthg, shows that we need a help ! Addiction is an illness who touch mental & physic!
@littleturttle: I completely agree. All I was saying is that labeling alcoholism as a "disease" is a cheap shot, in order to make the addict feel less responsible for their addiction. Oh, and you write really well for English not being your first language! : )
@SpeCulaTionS101 Thanks! certainly you are right ! They have to take their life and being responsible of what they do ! We have to need them for that (I'm becoming nurse) cause they need to have a new personnality, stronger !
pmsgotro@SpeCulaTionS101 Alcoholism is an illness, a sickness. What you said about "they" call it a disease in order for us to not feel we are responsible is completely out of line. I know I am responsible for everything I do, period. I cannot speak for anyone else. It IS a disease. By the way you are not a reformed alcoholic, you are an alcoholic in recovery and always will be. Also, just wanted to ask, can you "catch" cancer, MS or any other disease of that type?
@pmsgotro I'm not in on this little debate but I just wanted to say, I think when the person said you can't catch alcoholism and you said that you can't catch cancer or anything either...
@pmsgotro Well things such as cancer and MS you can rarely help getting, it's usually genetic or just totally random and lifestyle changes can only sometimes decrease your chances of getting those diseases. It's not that I don't feel for these people but the beginning (not the addiction that follows however) is their choice.
@neonfiona : Actually the three leading causes of death in the US are cancer, heart disease and alcohol related illnesses. They are all lifestyle related diseases. Lifestyle changes can prevent any of them. Heredity only sets a trigger level. Once you begin making high risk choices, the changes in the brain make it difficult to stop the progression into the disease. Unless you have the necessary information. Most people don't even know that they are making high risk choices in the beginning.
@pmsgotro "They call it a "disease" in order to make alcoholics feel like their not at fault for having the addiction. It's sort of insinuating the idea that you "caught" alcoholism, and it's not really your fault." This is exactly what was said that upset me a little. Maybe I didn't work it properly so I just wanted to point that out. Thanks.
@FreshandTolly Yea, That is really hard to do.I one gets as addicted as I was they need some kind of medical supervision. The last drunk I went on in 06 I weened myself off with Xanax.Because I cant cut down drinking as it just makes me want more!
@FreshandTolly Do not try to do this yourself. Weaning yourself is rarely effective. When you are an alcoholic it can be deadly to stop drinking cold turkey, and having "one" drink usually doesn't stop at one.
@hollybee43 It always works for me. I still feel the hangover but depending on how much I drink the day before I'll have a couple beers maybe 2 or 3 and sip on them throughout the entire day and it keeps me from going over the edge until I'm able to handle it the withdrawal with out it. I've never been this far but have felt as if i was near this bad.
I havent touched a drop in a year come december nor do i want to i detest the effect alcohol had on my life..i figured cold turkey is the only way..it isnt pleasant as for this chap almost fatal..the delerium tremens are enough to put people off who truly want to stop after the nurture process ...iam glad i didnt go to "re-hab" as once you have been there it aint so bad going in a second time...a few nights alone in a room enduring halucinations and fits kinda swung it for me a decade on
I hear that alcoholics having DT's will start to read an empty paper if you give it to them.
