  • wered u get the rest of the setup you have on ur camera? pretty nice

  • Hey Mat! How you doing?

Do you know what mic fits in my sony SR7? Can I use that Mic in my camcorder?

My problem is: I have a band and when I record the band playing live, the loud and bass sounds causes a distortion that makes impossible to hear the original sound. The Mic you shown will bear the high pressure sound? do you think that shotgun mics will solve my problem?

    thanks!!

  • @prammaven It's 3.5mm but I tell my wife it's 3.5 inches...

  • @1iNova Doh! A few people called me on that. All I can do is say - I'm really not very bright at all and shouldn't try to adlib my videos!

  • dude, where can i get an attachment bracket like that?, i cant seem to find it anywhere.

  • @8bitzombieMX Check out my site for more info and links.

  • Hi,

Does the microphone and XLR adapters come with the cables as well? or do you have to order them separately?

    thanks

  • @BBalmost No Cables included... cuz my SGM-2X doesn't haven't it.. which i had additional buy a cable.

  • What if your video camera does not have a hole for the microphone?

  • @fkmvs Then you're out of luck in terms of adding a mic.

  • Great review. Thanks. I assume this works well on a boom? And would you suggest running the mic through a mixer and then into the camera?

  • @LordShen Yes, it works well on a boom -- we also use it on a jib. I like the added help of a mixer, but you don't have to.

  • Would a setup with this mic and your beachtek adapter and a 20ft xlr cable on boom pole work well do you think?

  • how do you afford all these gadgets?

  • Hi

I have the canon hv40 and am interested in getting this mic. What adapter do you have and how nessessary is the juicedink / beachtek.. ?Can i just conect the mic via a cable>

    please help..

  • thanks for the vid. i have a canon hv40 and am thinking of getting an AZDEN SGM mic. what is the name of the adapter you have? also do i need a beachtek, i heard that the mic can be conected with a small cable conector to the camra called lmt100. I'M making an indi feature with the hv40 and need a good shotgun mic...please help. cheers

  • Do you find the RODE video mic tends to make a lot of noise for run n gun shooting since it flops around in its shock mount? Thanks for this review. I'll let AZDEN know it was the reason I am about to go out and buy one of their products :)

  • Who makes that "attachment bracket" you speak of?

  • If you attach the azden directly to the canon hv20 will the microphone appear in the shot?

  • Do you think the included shock mount will be well suited for use with a boom pole?. Ex: Walking and possibly running?

  • DO u recommend wireless mics are better than the shotgun mics for moviemaking??? Also I have dvx100b and I have a wireless mic and I put the reciever on input 1 but the sound is on the right side while the left is the camera mic. How can I make the external mic be STEREO intead of mono????? thanks

  • Very nice, tx!!

  • I ordered a regular shotgun microphone. It says for Panasonic camcorders. So if I got a JVC camcorder with the right hook up for a microphone would it still work? Or do I need a Panasonic camcorder. Your response asap on this would be very very much appreciated. Thanks!

  • As long as it has the righ input, you're fine. In other words, if the mic has a minijack cable and your camera has a minijack input, you're gold.

  • Thanks you so much for taking the time to reply! The information was very valuable to me right now! Thanks :)

  • could you use a boom pole?

  • how will it attach and plug in to a DVX100B?

  • The mic should go right in to the XLR inputs on the camera.

  • Good review. Thanks!

  • I'm not sure what you mean -- the flash bracket? They are pretty common and very cheap.

  • would you recommend this mic even now, a year after your review.

or have you found a better one.

what I'm trying to say is: would it be worth it to buy this mic or look for a more updated version?

  • It is still a good mic. There are better ones if you go up in price, but I still very much like the SGM-1x for the price. Check out my site for a new article on Audio/mics for low budget filmmakers -- just went up this past week.

  • Have you experimented with the Sgm 2x or heard how it compares to the SGM 1x?

  • hello where you buy the Wide Angle Mattebox for canon hv20?

  • I believe I picked it up on Ebay. Check out my website for some links.

  • do u need beachtech?

  • yes you need an xlr adapter

  • do you need the beachtech adapter to make it work with the hv30?

  • Yes. The SGM-1x has an XLR cable and you'd need an adapter (Beachtek or Juicelink) to connect it to your HV30.

  • is the shotgun only for camera?

  • No. We use it on the end of a boom pole as well.

  • When you use your mic on a boom pole, are you able to have it directly connected to your Beachtek adapter or do you use another source like a Marantz?

  • Hey, will the shotgun mic capture the whirring from the gears of the HV30?

  • great info thank you

  • thank you, thank you, thank you for your info!

  • I know Azden makes a microphone similar to this for mini-dv camcorders. I have a standard sony mini-dv handycam, and was wondering if this microphone can work with my type of camcorder. I'm guessing the audio quality with this microphone would be better than the one designed for mini-dv camcorders because it's more expensive

  • Yes, they've got a shotgun with a mini jack plug that works decently well. You'll always get better sound if you can use a mic with an XLR output.

  • Now, wait a minute. Don't be judging really bad German poopie porn until you have tried it!

  • does this mic show when shoot with your hv30

  • Not at all.

  • Nice job! Thank you. I'm getting ready to order a hv30, tele lens, beachtec, and a mic from B&H. Which Beachtec do you have, and is it quiet. Also, what did you use to shoot your spot, frames etc? Very clean and sharp, thanks!

  • The video was just shot on a little Ultra Flip camera (non-HD). They are quick and easy to use for videos like this.

  • true. There was a Air Show today down by my way and with heavy jet blasts and loud speaker commentary, i had to adjust the mic levels on the onboard. It worked out pretty well, I got decent sound from it and it wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be. yet, a shot gun mic seems nice. I tried using my Canon L2 stereo mic on my Canon HV30 but that particular shotgun powers through the source on the Canon L2 rather than its own. But thanks for the 411..apprecaite it a lot.

  • i have a Canon Hv30 and yeah, the onboard mic is fuckin horrible. I had a after grad party that I had went to and brought my camera along to capture some last moments and I wish i had gotten a decent micrphone for my camera because with the music blasting around me and all the ambience going on,I couldn't get a conversation loud enough to be heard on my camera. I had to literally blast up my T.V. volume to hear the conversation. I hear the Rhode mic is pretty awesome but Azden seems to produce +

  • The onboard mics on the HV20/HV30 aren't really any worse than any other camcorder, but they really aren't meant for getting any sort of pro sound at all. If you're shooting something more than just your home videos, then you really need a pro shotgun mic of some sort.

I have a Rhode mic as well, but I feel like the Azden sounds better overall.

  • Do they sell Shotgun mics. Like that for Mini DV camcorder? If so could ya help me find one. I have a crappy camera but its pretty nice quality. Im not sure If I can get a shotgun mic though cause its cheaper then yours. Goes for about $200 It's the DCR-HC32 hope ou can help me out.
