Really nice instrument. I like many of your videos. I want to point something out though. Did you know that courantes were actually rather slow and expressive and not allegro at all? I would play this slower, even a little slower than most minuets, and make it more expressive.
Well... this is not true. Actually there were two "flavors" of courantes, the French and the Italian. It's true that the French is not so fast. But the Italian one (and this is the case) is faster. Remebed that italian word "Corrente" (Courant in French) means "Run". Thanks for watching
I am well aware of the two types, the slower courante and the faster corrente. But this particular courante is the slower French type. The faster Italian types have many sixteenth notes, like in French Suite 5. This courante has no 16ths and is not even in 3/8, which would have indicated a faster tempo. Believe me, I have spent many years researching this. This courante should actually be andante, this is all I am saying. You are welcome to visit my website for more free information!
I've heared this today in a recital in my school : ), it makes me happy and i've smiled!
