When I first played this, I was amazed at how generous the initial lives count is compared to contemporaries.

Yeah, "saving" the enemies is awkward. "Capture" would have made much more sense.

I was born in good ol' '80. and I totally missed this. I grew up with a lil' nintendo, my parents thought video games would rot your brain, and was pretty much raised on Genesis. But I remember my brother, vintage 1974, with a C64. and I was so jealous of his friends copying games and taking them back to the store to get their money back. I remember Ultima IV blowing my mind. thanks CGR for taking me down memory ln. on every video.

I'm just oldschool like that. Hell I don't know why, but the games back then were so much better to me. You see during my childhood I used to live in a very poor town. There, all the kids (including me) had old toys and games, mainly because our parents couldn't afford any new stuff so they would just give us what was theirs. That's why I love games that are older than me.

Don't be silly, everyone can appreciate these games and new games. Of course graphics are important, that's the main reason that new consoles are developed to push graphics, but it also opens gateways for new realms of gameplay.

If you enjoy games like the one reviewed then there is plenty of them so enjoy them. Don't dislike the newer games just because they are not the same as the old ones.Play old games if that's what you want.

Oh and the vectrex's main selling point was it's graphics.

It's been a while, but I think this game has a rather uniqe 2 player mode. If I'm not mistaken, the second player is tethered to the first and can fire in all directions. You might be able to thrust against each other, but I'm pretty sure you're tethered nonetheless.

Rescuing the enemy is not uncommon. Ships that destroyed others in the world wars often took aboard survivors.

And perhaps the enemies are being digitized in Solar Quest (like in Captain Power) before boarding your ship, giving you virtually limitless space.

At any rate, vector graphics are cool. Are there any modern games using this technology (like web games)?
