  • i would love to hear the actual audio of this clip hahaha

  • An amazing job by Mineo. But who's the douschbag interspersed in the clip?

  • What's the name of the piece? NOT "Wild Drums" I think....

  • GENE KRUPA LOUIE BELLSON, BUDDY RICH,JOE MORELLO AS WELL AS MANY OTHER GREAT DRUMMERS,TOO MANY TO LIST.ARE ALL GONE NOW WE'LL

NEVER SEE THE LIKES OF THEN AGAIN R.I.P.

  • Sal's life is going to be directed by James Franco...it is about time that Sal got the respect he deserved. Thanks, James.

  • In perhaps his best role as a lead, Mineo tears into this part like a man possessed.

  • Gene Krupa beat the savage tempo on this part. Truely amazing. This is definitely one the greatest drum tracks ever recorded on film. Sal Mineo couldnt even keep up with Gene`s fury. People quickly forget how badass Gene was in the 40`s and 50`s. Buddy Rich had the highest respect for Gene. He called him the President of all Jazz drummers. GO-Gene-GO!!!

  • They sometimes show this movie on classic movie channels. I say classic because it depends on your cable carrier. I saw it on TCM I believe.

I have only seen very few brief clips of the real Krupa so I don't really know. But having played with many drummers for many years, my opinion is that you've got to be kind of manic to hit stuff for a living. Long live Kieth Moon but my fave was Al Jackson from Booker T & the MGs. That cat could swing.

    Cheers,

    Taj

  • I enjoy the manic expressions on Sal Mineo's face as he does the drumming. Is that something Krupa did during performances?

  • ese hijo de puta q sale en el video malogra todo el excelente video de mineo y kruppa both r.i.p.

  • Sal Mineo did a awesome job in this film. I like when Gene Krupa unleashes his fury at the end of this clip and Sal looses his tempo and tries to keep up.

  • I stll like Krupa. While he was no Buddy . . but then again, nobody beat Buddy. . . he was an excellent musician. The video is fine, except for the long haired gay guy trying to be cool.

  • And Buddy was no Gene Krupa and neither was a Chick Webb. We are talking about master drummers and should enjoy them all and learn from them.

  • Wow, Keith Moon stole his chops from Sal Mineo.

  • I saw the movie last night 4 the 1st time, LOVED IT!!!!!

  • Great drummer and fine actor.

    A CLASSIC!

  • Agreed. But Sal was an "ok" drummer I guess. My all time favorite drummers are/were Krupa/Rich/Jack Sperling/Dave Black and currently Tony Royster Jr off the top of my head.

  • @adman1048 Don't forget Grady Tate, Philly Joe Jones, (rock) Stewart Copland, John Bonham.

  • What's amazing is that it's really Gene Krupa your hearing and Sal Mineo is matching the licks. Krupa played all the drums in the movie. How the hell S. Mineo was able to pull the visual off is truly phenomenal.

  • Sal Mineo is simply doing a fair re-creation for a film. Gene Krupa was an extrordinary jazz/big band drummer. Mineo could never have been in his league.

  • Agreed. But Mineo still did a fantastic job. Listen to the licks and watch his movements. I grew up listening to Krupa and he was my inspiration for a very successful career as a studio drummer myself.

  • adaman: I agree with you. You're a prfessional and you would know. But everyday people shouldn't be mislead into thinking that he was an amazing drummer Who are some of your favorite (jazz or rock) drummers?

  • @splivey DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO keep that in mind ! I am sure Sal would have been the first to agree, for Christ's sake, why did 'nt they just get Krupa then ??? Was Mel Torme not good enough looking for a stand in ???? Like V8 , should hav asked SANDY then , would that have helped you any better with your love of Jazz and knowledge of great Jazz drummers ??? OMG

  • @wookisuki OMG yourself. You really like to research the past. This film was made over 50 years ago and your answer was to a post left only God knows how long ago. As a writer for a jazz magazine, I happen to think that I'm entitled to my opinion. Sal would be honored that someone still admires him so much. Anytime you want to match wits on knowledge of who were the greatest jazz drummers, I say bring it on!

  • @wookisuki Art Blakey, Max Roach, Tony Williams, Roy Haynes, Elvin Jones, Billy Cobham, Philly Joe Jones, etc...etc...etc....

  • He taught his self how to play for the movie. But he was still dubbed over.

  • He was so good in this part
