this has to be one of the best money making schemes ever. drill it in people's heads that they are sick and then sit back and collect the money. make sure you start drilling when they are kids so it sticks with them forver, and the money can keep coming in.
I want to have a job, I dropped out of highschool after grade nine, I want to learn and get an education.. but I don't feel motivated enough to do so.. is this add? I'm thinking of getting evaluated for some sort of disorder.. my mother thinks I'm lazy.. I'm going to 21 soon, too.. do I have add or wut.. can anyone with a d d relate to this? like.. the being not so motivated to do things in life like school and work.. I never really had any friends or a social life..
@YOMUDAWUZHERE You definitely should see someone about this. If you are 21 and haven't finished school there are a few problems you might be experiencing, not to mention disorders. The lack of social interaction is particularly worrying. It may or may not be ADD, but talking to a professional will give you perspective. You owe it to yourself, if you don't do anything, you might end up hitting forty and wondering where your life went.
they missed a very importent topic...social skills..
when a child whit a.d.h.d is inside a group and expected to talk casualy (as far kids can talk casualy) he get distracted ..meybe even destractive at times when ther is so mach goin on and he cant get himsalf to focus at 1 person/subject
this can lead to a general felling of discomfort in group situations.
@RoGeorgeRoGeorge I just meant it was the worst because it is sooooo hard to focus in on it and pay attention to it. lol i am prety sure the information is very informative and accurate, but i really wouldnt know seeing that i tried to watch but couldnt concentrate
Had it all my life but put my antisocial disorders to the test by playing online social games, connecting with musicians songwriters and producers around the world. being creative in musical arts, and helping others improve there skills on world of warcraft I fight every day this is how I challenge it how do you do it.
I have been diagnosis with ADD after I was not allow to finish nursing school. (had 3 months to finish) Clinicals at hospital was overwhelming for me. Now that I was diagnosis, what do I do next? Who do I see?
@iamitachi13 you weren't allowed to finish or you couldn't, yourself, finish it? because there is a law in the united states that prevents discrimination for anyone with learning disorders. if you absolutely can't deal with it, then talk to your psychiatrist about medication.
@DesertSmeagle because people like us with ADD needs to find some kind of stimulant, we get bored easily therefore we create projects, or things out of the box to do to stimulate us... as we get bored easily. Eienstein had add same with mozart
@engimports ahhhhh of course...good insight. As ive researched more, ive found out that i have ADD, because when im bored, i am constantly restless because im not doing anything. I usually end up playing video games or researching something.....like mental disorders. Einstein was amazing in the fact that he sucked at school. I wonder how he overcame it. I guess theres that one thing we are all good at, and if we find it early enough, we can tons of energy into it. Finding it is the hard part.
I seriously doubt that I have ADD, since I have been tested for it. But I lack focus, I forget things within an instant, and I battle follow instructions. My mind also tends to wonder off quite quickly. My lack of focus and drive makes me very depressed, not bad considering I do suffer from anxiety and depression. I have the meds for anxiety and depression. But I get depressed, because I can't focus. The best way for to treat myself, Ratsak, codine, and alcohol. The psychiatrist don't listen.
@09669390 attention deficit tests are very subjective, but the criteria are very broad. NEVER NEVER do self-treatment. disorder's are very vague classifications. anxiety and depression often overlap with ADHD. I believe half the battle is conscious willpower, as in the perseverance to finish your homework even with focus issues, etc etc. Talk to your psychiatrist about different meds, talk to him about wellbutrin...you don't need a doc to tell you something, but don't think you know what's best
@kmpa13 No I already had ADD testing with a psychologist, or did I forget to tell you about that. Oh my gosh, I must be in the wrong country, because in Australia, psychiatrist don't listen. Three different psychiatrists, you tell them the same problem they all come up with three different answers. A good psych is right up there with the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus and Jesus, they don't exist. I am depressed not delusional, da. $400 psyche per hour bill, is that meant to cheer me up?
@09669390 jesus what's with the attitude? maybe the psychiatrists aren't the best, but remember, they're professionally trained and licensed to diagnose and treat disorders, you're not. get medication prescribed, don't harm yourself with junk you think works for you.
Oh please I don't think Ratsak is not meant to treat me, it is meant to kill me. Either way my life is fucked, so I might as well exit early. I am mentally ill da, so these experts don't have a hope in hell fixing me up. I ask for help, and I only get shit upon. Beat this four different psyche doctors, four different answers.
HOw to stop it? I can't watch it all... I can't keep on more than 20 sec in row. I have to really really concentrated to have something from this clip.
As a 6 year old I was diagnosed ADHD. But I'm not actually that hyperactive. So I used to think " I'm probably not very smart, I don't have discipline, just a failure all the way through." About 4 years ago I learned about ADD. I can't be sure I have it. The diagnose of ADHD was like 15 years ago - I'm 21 now - but it would suprise me if I don't.
lmfao yeah its hard to sit and watch this whole thing.....i just went to the docs and hes trying to put me on prozac to rule out anything like depression....well im not depressed i have ADD......im not taking them meds....but when i do get ADD meds im scared of taking them i dont want to have to depend on somthing...but i dont know what else to do......its sooooo hard to learn things
short attention is lost easily with people with add. that's why people with add keep talking at times. they feel that the idea in the mind will be lost if not expressed at that specific time.
14:24 - you can see how dr hallowell has add by observing his response to the interviewer. he does not allow the interviewer to interrupt because an idea is fresh in the dr.'s head. people with add are at times accused of being rude, but in reality the person with add has no perception of being rude.
Typically ADHD I was playing on Tomb raider at the same time and yet was able to listen and absorb what was being said...the problem is I just cant get on with other people to the point that I have no career and no friends..sorry but magic wand please:(
This interview was amazing, but having ADD/ADHD and trying to watch this video is impossible, my mind started to drift something serious.. I actually started writing this 10 min. into the video and couldn't finish until the end..lol
I know I have ADD but have never been diagnosed - i struggle every day with people thinking I'm stupid. I can't tell them I have ADD because they will think I'm making it up. I cant tell my employer because I know they will end my contract of employment. I have a hard time convincing myself i'm not stupid so I don't think I would secceed convincing anyone else.
@BagofDreams i feel the same way u do.....i feel dumb all the time, and people think im dumb, i wish i could learn like most people do but i cant.......when most people think of ADD they think its no big deal like u cant deal with it on ur oun but the fact of the matter is u cant.......
@MsBarbie810 ..the fact is you're not dumb, like the doctor said, we just need to find our hidden talents.. we all have them.. what do you think your talent could be?
It can be done - I got one when I was 50. Helps to get a diagnosis, be kind to yourself, learn to work with your quirky habits, use your strengths, figure out a way to keep yourself writing (this is one of the hardest, I found, still find), make lists and check things off, break things down into pieces, separate tasks. Happily, there's more help and understanding out there than there used to be. And I take Ritalin when I want to write. Or do "linear" things.
I'm 22 and I discovered that I have ADD. I'm not sure of course so I'm gonna see a professional for that. But the more I read about it and the more I see other people talking about it it can't be anything else. I've let myself and my loved ones down. Time after time.. And after 19 years of hell in school, I'm seeing some light again at the end of this tunnel.. To all the people sharing video's and thought.. I thank you
It is like Dr. Hallowell knows my life story. I was diagnosed with ADHD as a kid in the early 90's. I am also female, which made the school question the ruling possibility of ADHD. I wasn't hyper at school...just restless and loud when at home. In school, I was the quiet one who sat in the back of the class, reserved and thought of as 'slow'; all the IQ tests I took stated otherwise. I was always in la-la land. Dr. Hallowell seems to understand... I am checking out this read for sure!
and i am learning that we,should educate our health take cares sometimes.we have to embarce them by showing them the documents, books, reaserches,,,,,i am learning that no one-NO ONE- even the ones that claim to love you-can save you BUT yourself.we all should start from educating ourselves so then we ask for the rights and attentions that we deserve with strength
please do yourself a favor and read this book" When Too Much Isnt Enough: Ending the Destructive Cycle of AD/HD and Addictive Behavior [Paperback" if you have ADD/ADHD +DRUG ADDICTION THEN YOU ARE GOING TO BENEFIT IT alot!!
I have adhd and "moderate" drug problems, and even though I feel like I really need the medication to improve my life, I'm also scared that if I start taking it I'm just gonna use it recreationally. I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem, advice anyone?
@wndrkmmr You aren't the only one with this problem. I thought this too, but learned with time, and much processing, that this was to 'deny' to myself that I have a biological disorder. "Moderate" drug use is seen with undiagnosed ADD, as we have found ways to stimulate an under-stimulated brain, or to dull the over-active one. I can tell you that if you are able to plan a goal out, have what is needed to complete that goal, AND complete it in a timely manner-that you probably don't need meds.
@youmarley haha I definitely need the meds I don't remember the last time I finished something, but they usually don't prescribe them to adults where I come from :(. Thanks for ur answer anyway
I only found out I have Adult ADD only about 2 weeks ago - online. No experts telling me I have it, there aren't that many experts where I come from but my gut feeling tells me that I do. All my life I thought my negative and unfavorable traits were uniquely my own. I cried my ass off when I realized it wasn't...and CRAP this video is making me cry-again! 38 years of my life lost in ADD, I'm determined to find myself - somehow.
@x4erd4 I'm 56 & was diagnosed @ 38 as well. I was in the process of getting my 3 sons diagnosed, who I KNEW had ADD; just didn't realize I DID TOO… my symptoms were different. It DID explain a lot in the previous 38 yrs! I love Dr. Hallowell's work.
He explains it so well! I've spent my entire childhood learning to compensate for this (I'm 18) and yet it was always there in my mind. I was just diagnosed last month and my mindset and outlook has changed so much. He's right, it's such a relief. The undiagnosed ADD was actually a huge source of my depression, and I'm finally moving on after 8 years of being depressed. This man is amazing! I'm going to go buy that book when I get a chance.
@criticalcaleb it's not a disorder.. it's a way of being and thinking.. like he said, people with it tend to be more creative and think outside the box
@criticalcaleb I worked very hard for this...and the ONLY solution technology i was able to find, was Neurofeedback. I am on my 8th session, ninth is next week monday and this is very effective. I have better control over the remote control of the TV station in my head that keeps changing channels distracting me. i constantly felt like someone else was controlling it and not me...now after my 8th session of Neurofeedback. I can be in control. Seriously, check it out...it really works. I'm proof
I Think this guy is great because he made it as a Doctor, though he has this condition, and he s just great! He has alot of strength to pull this through... He s a doctor, this gives hope. Hope for me, i have add too.
ADD never stops really, it s just as you get older and you figure yourself and your goals out, it becomes more manageable...But it never stops: so why taking meds, that make my symptomes grow worse when they work out? I feel like taking meds would be for the rest of my life...
This is very Good Information. Doctor Hallowell understands and can relate to the Symptoms of A.D.D. , because he has it as well. Thanks for Sharing! I can definitely relate...
They talk a little bit about diet. I found that The Good Mood Diet is amazing. I had no idea that food could be so life changing. I can't talk about this diet enough.

I have better control over the remote control of the TV station in my head that keeps changing channels distracting me. i constantly felt like someone else was controlling it and not me...now after my 8th session of Neurofeedback. I can be in control. Seriously, check it out...it really works. I'm proof

@criticalcaleb Your comment is 7 months old, but yeah, I've lost two jobs due to daydreaming, mind clutter, etc. =[

Excellent talk. Finally some1 who can talk some sense about the topic.
Sure, I have learnt to work with what I've got.. but then again, I am a genius :-)
Learning completely new topics all the time gives me my dopamine fix.
