  • best feel-good song ever, awesome!

  • There was a period where my brother and I would say "jam sarnies!" instead of certain other exclaimations. Stub your toe? JAM SARNIES!!! We had no real idea what they were, but it rolled off the tongue so nicely.

  • After all these decades, Anderson's genius only becomes more and more apparent as the music stands up (sorry) to the test of time. I don't care what anyone says about the other "prog" and even pop rock greats thru time, I.A. stands - and remains - above them all.

  • The most disciplined band, Anderson was a taskmaster. With his little guitar he spun wonders. Apparently. Mick Jagger "discovered" them.

  • These are a nice collection of photo's. 2nd to last photo, Ian obviously bored with the photo shoot, writes another amazing song, whilst reaching for his fag packet...................

And ponders what future masterpieces he still must create............

  • they should blast this out of giant speakers al the way along the sea front !

  • wonderful song, been up the pool a million times myself as i only live 30 miles away.

Always think of this song when i go there

  • This song came to mind after watching Blackpool earn promotion to the Premiership yesterday in thrilling fashion. Surely the chorus is worth of a crowd singalong! I got Living in the Past for Christmas in 1972, always loved this quirky little song. Thanks for keeping it in circulation. Cheers, alan

  • It may sound funny that I am a Jethro Tull fan in spite of the fact that I lived behind the iron curtain before 90, and it must seem odd that I know weird Jethro Tull song but this is my absolute, most favourite Jethro song. Thanks for posting it, greetings from Hungary.

  • @kiskte me too! I want to visit Hungary before I die!

  • @iluvflagunlaws : cheers, mate, send me a message when you do! :-)

  • masterpiece...masterpiece...masterpiece..masterpiece...Ian Anderson has served his muse well..he has this ability to make to most mundane topic into the most exqiuistely ornate..case it point...this track just tickles the ears to death!

  • Then again the annotation says Edward Bear, I dont care; the info in the annotations is awesome though.

  • Edward Bear?

  • Edward Bear?

  • Apparently he was a local politician in Blackpool, look on the site Cup Of Wonder and then look for the annotations for this song and it will explain more if your interested.

  • @iluvflagunlaws That site says Edward Pier. Most people think the lyrics are 'men with beer' so; interesting. Thanks.

  • @iluvflagunlaws

    On that wood Peer?

  • @kiskte I was serious, I'm getting kind of old now. The Eastern European countries appeal to me. Sleepy, lost in time far-away romantic places. Lots of trees and fields. Free open spaces.

  • @kiskte Jerzy Kosinski wrote about such lands.

  • @iluvflagunlaws edwards pier

  • @iluvflagunlaws "Edward Bear" is a reference to Ted Heath.

  • while posing for the daily press they look around and blame the mess on ...........WILSON GOOOODE !!!!! hahaahh Move "85"

  • the iron tower smiles down upon the silver sea and along the golden mile they'll be swinging punch and tea the politicians there have come to take the air while posing for the daily press we look a round and blame the mess on .......... WILSON GOOOOOODE !!!!! hahaha Move"85"

  • Ditto jcrp... Free thinkers and not bogged down in a world full of banks, mobile phone shops, computers, sports shops, phony celebrity's, crap music, too much t.v. Etc

  • Ian the word smith

  • Great song!!

  • awesome, magnificent. Thanks.

  • My fave from the album.

A work of pure genius: magical writing.

    Thanks

  • i love this song. i have been a tull fan since the 2nd grade. back then, "snot is running down his nose" was funny

  • we were free thinkers in those days life had a different meaning being happy was all about of being yourself and sharing a cigarrete with your friends

  • Well sounds like those were much simpler times.

  • @jrcp61 yeah very well put indeed- i agree, times were so innocent then..

  • ahh...one of my favorite acoustic Tull tunes...thanks!

  • Yes a great little song with a lot of feeling and nostalgia attached to it , reminding me of my stomping days. Thanks for the post.

  • Up The Pool.....some friends of my English friends went to Blackpool for holiday years ago...and i associate this songmeister Ian with it...oh the memories...

  • Dekemc - Thanks for that - sure you didn't mean" Haze" - and sweet smelling one at that lol

  • Brought up on Tull, in my youth , great stuff, saw them in Dundee Caird hall back in the early seventies , happy daze in deed

  • "The politicians there, who've come to take the air, while posing for the Daily Press, will look around and blame the mess on Edward Bear."

  • wow, thanks for the video response! good version, really! :) And the pictures are cool! 1:12 - "while posing to the daily press" really really funny picture that fits the lyrics. :D

  • Thanks!

  • "There'll be buckets, spades and bingo, cockles, mussels, rainy days, seaweed and sand castles, icy waves. Deck chairs rubber dingies, old vests, braces dangling down, sun-tanned stranded starfish in a daze."

  • I remember this one ! Again presumably from my sister's "Living In The Past" compilation album.

    5 more stars.

Bear in mind I don't necessarily give the stars because I like the song, but a) loyalty and/or sympathy vote, b) your postings are always very good quality, c) I've got a soft spot for Tull/Ian Anderson, and c) like with this song, I like it !!

  • Good, I am glad you like it! Yes, I wanted you to see this one because I knew that this was on your sister's copy of Living In The Past and that it might bring back some nostalgia! And thanks for the rating, I feel the same way actually!
