This recording was actually part of one of the first "Hi-Fi" recordings made by Magnavox in the 50's. Maganavox had a chorus at that time that made a Christmas album. On the finished album, Virgil played organ pieces in between the chorus' carols. The director of the chrous is still alive told me that he was present when Virgil recorded his pieces. It was amazing to watch Virgil listen to a carol recorded by the chorus, remove the headphones, pause, and then record pieces like this from memory.
I'm correct in saying that this was recorded on the Hook Hastings before the Aeolian-Skinner was installed? I know he made a recording of this piece on the Hook Hastings...
Wonderful piece! I recall watching a documentary on pipe organs in the 80s in which Carlo Curley played this with very similar stops.

This recording is from 1960, several years after the Aeolian-Skinner was installed. I am not aware of an earlier recording of this piece.

Thanks. Very cool.
I send you a link to a performance on the Hook Hastings in a message since youtube doesn't allow links in comments.
