  • First time seeing this. I love it. A lot of talent. I wonder out of the current singers we have today, who would be able to pull this off.

  • Really, really love this song btw. I see myself in that character. If you're ever in West Hollywood you should all head to Musical Mondays! Awesome place.

  • I've really appreciated her since i saw "Cabaret" for the first time about a year ago. She's too cool.

  • Ohhh, I love this since I found the record at a fleamarket :)))

  • 2 people didn't ring them bells

  • There is no one (EVER!) who does it like Liza!! AND pair her with Fosse and there's no stopping her!!

  • is she lip synching?

  • I fell in love with this act and song the first time I saw it...and still LOVE IT !

  • Fun

  • haha, I love this song, it stays in my head for dayysssssss :L x

  • She is SO good!!!

  • @bkerbis TOP of her game.

  • omg, it's only struck me now how remarkable the resemblance is between Liza in her 30s & 40s and the character Joey from "Friends". I like them both

  • Here's one from 1972, but she is probably lip synching this.

  • @LapisLee yes I noticed that - or it was dubbed from another live show - its definitely not all it seems! heavy editing

  • What a wonderful Liza... ! no-one can do it better than her - what a character!!! Nobody could represent NYC better than her.... love it!

  • What a wonderful Liza... ! no-one can do it better than her - what a character!!!

  • Look closely. She is lip synching her way through this song. Hence all the long distance views. She is breathless at the beginning of the song when she is doing the introduction, when the song starts its dubbed. This TV special was 1972, there weren't the little wearable mics there are today.

  • @2008dada how come no-one has noticed this? she is clearly not singing this live

which takes a lot away from how amazing her voice sounds - my voice would be that loud if you dubbed it

she isn't UN-talented - but she has always been over-rated in my opinion

    Judy's ghost

  • Why do the audience clap when the people on stage kick?

  • @sptfgpn the bells are on the dancer's wrists and ankles

  • @sptfgpn theater darling. PURE Theater.

  • this is great, also check out "zelzah" and her take on this song, also really fun

  • Bless ya Liza!

  • she's so cute...i love her bow at 5:40

  • whers her tap shoes

  • Dubrovnik thanks Liza for her incredible performance and the tourism plug. More than one have found love in this magical City (though this is the first time that I have heard that it was someones next door neighbor)

  • Fosse and Minnelli - a match made in show biz history.

  • Liza is SO fabulous....I absolutely LOVE this song!!!!

  • i remember listening to this song for the first time when i was in sporters bar on cambridge st in boston.

anyone remember that place and time?

for a young gay man, it was a magical and exciting place. "ring them bells" and" have i a hope or have half a chance to even ask if i can dance with you...yoohoo" did more that just add to the experience...it completed it.

  • This is my favourite part from Liza with a Z. Its hilarious!!

  • LOVE IT!!!!! :D

  • GENIA

    QUE BUENA ACTUACION!!!!

  • seein gher in a week in australia god damm im so excited hahahha

  • what stamina

  • Awesome!

  • just amazing!

  • My God she's fierce!

  • bravo

  • This entire DVD is amazing. Run out and get it TODAY!

  • what do bells have to do with shirley and her story?

  • wedding bells, perhaps?

I think they just had a cool chorus to put a story to.

  • I can't believe you have to ask! Did you even listen to the song?

  • ring them bells as in "ring the his doorbell" since they lived right next door to each other.

  • she is such an amazing preformer.

  • i just found out that bob fosse directed this. it DID look like his style, though. :-)

  • Of course it's Mr Fosse!

  • That's where I used to live!!!

  • 29 E?

  • Whenever I see her in person I'm always disappointed she never sings this song; She sings too much of her godmother's songs; it's like half the show

  • Godmother?

Judy Garland was her MOM. Vincente Minnelli was her dad

  • I know. She never sings her mom's songs. For the last 2 years, she has been doing at her shows a tribute to her godmother, Kay Thomas. It goes on for the whole second half of the show. She never sings her regular songs anymore.

  • It's Kay Thompson, vocal arranger for several of the big MGM musicals, and one of Judy Garland's closest friends. I thought it was nice of Ms. Minnelli to create a show for her godmother (who helped her to really learn how to sing), especially since few of Kay's wonderful songs are well known anymore. I am sure if she does another tour (which she mite well still do again!) she'll bring back all the numbers that made her famous.

  • I hope so. It's nice what she is trying to do for her godmother, but I wish it didn't take up half the show. She never sings Ring them Bells, Liza with a Z or Londontown anymore.

  • She was such a talent. A tornado blowing her way through everything in her path.

  • I really think this is some of Fosse's best choreography. Although he has created more intricate numbers, this really represents and combines so many of his signature elements.

  • We did a skit in college based on this song/performance from the album, but this is the first time I've ever SEEN it in a video. What great memories it brings back!

  • how fun!

  • 1972? She`s done a l,ot since then! Isn`t there something new that could be released? Like the performance in tokyo?

  • BUt this is were she was at her best so no

  • Oh Smashing British music, that's a smashing show there mate!

  • Absolutely Fabulous. A performance that only Liza can produce

  • great!

  • I just love Liza, she's wonderful.

    Love youuu Liza!!!!

  • I saw this on TV when it aired. She was fabulous in her hey day...no one could touch her. The CD is great!

  • Liza is just an AMAZING performer, I remember seeing this special when it first aired on tv, and went right out and bought the album, i still have the album to this day, she was just the best

  • I remember it too!

I knew I was GAY at that moment.

  • Honey, when this thing aired, Helen Keller knew you were gay! She certainly knew I was. :)

  • i first heard this song at sporters, a gay bar in boston the 1st year i came out.

i lived outside downtown boston, but i always looked forward to driving in town on friday nights.

being new to the gay scene & a little nervous, this song always made me feel great when they played it.

another great song of that time was one i don't remember the name, but it to brings back the same memories. here are the opening words.

i have i a hope or have a chance to even ask if i can dance with you...you-hoo!

  • where's her mic?

  • she doesn't have one because how loud her voice is it booms around the theatre

  • I just moved to 5 Riverside Drive In New York City!!! and I feel as happy as Liza in this song!!!!

  • Are you E or F?

  • Until today she is a living legend, a goddess! A true star! Don t you agree?

  • i know a girl who did a musical theater to this song

  • It is a Trully Terrific True Song now gather around!

  • GREAT SONG ... i love it ... Liza is fabulous

  • IS IT REALLY TRUE?

  • i am doing a jazz dance to this song! i love it! i have to lip synic this whole song. My favorite part i have to do is 5! % riverside drive in new york? thats where you live? thats where i live! 5! are you sure?!

  • haha thats cool

  • truly terrific absoloutley true story

  • YAYYYYY!!!!!! LIZA! best bit "five? five river side? thats where i live!" shes so cute when she says that bit!
