This is true. If you just let your hair grow out and stop brushing it, it'll dread. You can still wash it using the same shampoo you would normally use. Just back comb a bit and keep them separated. : )

you dont have to backcomb ur hair, and it doesnt have to be dirty and smelly, my locks were made using a process called twist and pin, this is a longer process and it requires the hair to form on its own, the twisting only keeps it in the right position. you can wash em and they are really clean, i mean really clean.

theres special soaps you can use that don't leave residue or anything on your hair. residue will get caught in the knots and become rancid and smelly. i suggest you check knottyboy dot com for really good dread head products.

A good "soap" to use is Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Castile Soap. It's a liquid soap that can be used as a shampoo, body wash, and face wash. You can go to his site to order it (drbronners dot com) or find it at health food shop. His products do not leave residue (you might want to dilute it though), but they get your hair clean. It's great stuff and it's pretty much all I use.

Yes your right. But twist and pin is really only for Afro hair. I got afro hair and our hair is easier to dread but to white and other people non black with straight hair/soft the only method that will really work is backcombing.

this is only one way to get dreads mine were made with backcomin and shit it took like 4 hours and they smell like shit for a couple weeks with mine you cut the ends off your dreads and let them knot together more and then cut them again its called tubing i reccomend you go to a salon to get them if you do em yourself they look shittier
