  • superb! perfect interpretation!

  • Best concert hall acoustics ever, would anyone agree?

  • @GolgothanGrace How exactly a hall in a poor country like Bulgaria can have "the best acoustics"? I've been in that hall and the acoustics truly are nice, but I am sure you have many better halls in USA.

  • goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood

  • the pianist sucks!

  • болгария ? O_o ну вы маладцы :D

  • awesome playing cherkin

  • wht iz dis violinist`s are doing..bull shit...

  • I agree with VirtuosoMusician, the orchestra part is unneccesary, they are almost doing nothing, its like the orchestra part in Chopin's Andante Spianato & Grand Polonaise Brillante. I still prefer the original version. Despite what I've said, good interpretation!

  • very pleasant

  • Bravo, Maestro Cherkin. Exquisite transcription, and masterful playing on your part too. My complaints are only for the poor recording.

  • beautiful. the orchestra complimented the piano perfectly.

  • lol I thats in Bulgaria I didnt know they even played this :D

  • AMAZING !

  • Greeeeeat!!!!

  • os gusta heeeee

  • excellent dynamics, excellent technique, excellent performance, excellent transcription. Very musical dunno what else to say I loved it!!!

  • very good video, i like it :)

  • what dexterous fingers!

  • very nice...I have been looking for an orchestral version!

  • It's not that difficult to play it on the piano, you just need to practice a lot.

  • Wonderful tcherkin

but i wanted to know why is it a difficult piece on a Piano ?

    Best Wishes

  • Yesterday I heard a version with full orchestra fitted awesome I`ll try to find it!

  • Everything is fine, but I think there's a place for much more creativity in this piece.

  • Excellent Abeniz transcription .. Rimsky-Korsakov would love it

  • eautifulmuc, who the hell keeps snapping potos and coughing? SHUT UP!!!

  • Отличное выступление.

  • coooooooooool job you are a real artist man keep it up i am training now with guitar to play this piece full after 2 years or 3 lol

  • waou!!!!!

  • Georgi, your performance at the piano is wonderful!

Best regards to Bedros Papazian and all the musicians!

    Bravissimos!!!

  • Great Transcription!!! Greetings from Spain. BTW, I can say that is much easier to play it by guitar than piano... :)

As someone else said, I wish the accoustic of the place was better. Congratulations!!

  • Ta FRACO

  • Nice, but I think there are some more places which will sound better when played on strings instead of piano

  • very nice piece and well played.

  • DSB still sucks, but the performance was magnificent in my opinion. :) Good work!

  • 0:54 still too hard for you hu? /:

  • Comment removed

  • anyway this is a really nice piece btw : ) tks to Isaac Albeniz

  • this is so much harder on guitar than piano i know it because i tried it :P lol

  • I think this particular song is harder on guitar but it have an amazing sound in piano

  • if only people would stop coughing !!

  • @elieonline and taking pictures

  • Très belle interprétation

  • It's best for solo Classical guitar.

  • bravo :)

  • perfect ....!

  • the guitar version will always be my favorite, this was a bit quicker, but i understand since the piano is an easier instrument to play, you as an orchestra were still brilliant

could have used a bit more passion though, being a spanish song and all

  • ''...the piano is an easier instrument to play''??? WHAT???

  • Comment removed

  • i think what akaidres means is that it is less linear in a sense. it kinda ads extra dimension with there being six strings, each with semitone intervals. just takes another type of coordination i guess

  • hendrixplayer's got me

  • i've been playing the guitar for almost 6 years and i've never stuggled as much i have trying to play the piano. you have to use all your fingers and reading both clefs is extremely hard. the guitar is my main instrument but i have to disagree with you.

  • Are you asking the Russians to play with more passion? Russian compositions have extreme passion.

  • of course not

i don't critique based on nationallity, i simply made a comment on this specific video

  • It's in Bulgaria...

  • He is a bulgarian, not a russian.

  • o this is a Bulgarian artist

  • It's good, no doubt. But I slightly dislike the piano player in this because there isn't much dynamic differentiation. But he's still damn good. ^_^

  • muy buena musica y buen pianista si señor

  • really good playing

i would like to learn that

can i have the piano notes?

  • pure genius

  • excellent! here is another short version of Asturias for Aud, Piano & orchestra (watch?v=UtiK4QPLhWg). the Aud player is Farid Al Atrach who is the best Aud player in the world and is considerd to be the king of Aud

  • Let me clarify that last point. "Snap" is inadequate. A certain tension, associated with the Flamenco dance, should govern throughout. Pianists play it as fast as possible( it is not quite as difficult as it sounds), and at such a tempo, you cannot imagine anyone dancing to it.! The slower guitar tempo, does capture the sense of Flamenco dance. The slow middle section, should never become Romatically soupy, as it does here. One can still envision the dance!.

  • Three comments about this arrangement:

    1. It is interesting- always good to rethink a work.

    2. The arranger is clearly influenced by the guitar transription, as evidenced in the outer sections by A: the arpeggiated octaves, B: the rasquedo effect in the chords, and C: the slower tempo (pianists play it very fast- guitarists cannot!) I hear a problem in the middle section, beginning 1:36. Without the octaves, (or double ocatves), it becomes to plaintive, and loses its flamenco "snap."

  • THE CONDUCTOR WAS GREAT,,THE PIANIST SUCKS,,I CAN DO BETTER WHEN IM BLINd FOLDED

  • OH NOES A PIANIST E THUG !!

  • Great Timeing

  • i think this is the great part, its not neccesary to give the orchestra a big part, orchestra is only backing piano,I loved it

    good job

  • @virtuosomusician dumbass comment... so if something plays a "minor part" that means it's unnecessary? I guess you would drive a car without turn signals, since they play a very minor part of driving they must be unnecessary... oh and your spelling blows

  • @virtuosomusician Maybe it's supposed to be a concerto?

  • @virtuosomusician you're wrong... so wrong

  • @virtuosomusician But they do add a different flavour to this piece.

  • @virtuosomusician Are you trying to tell the Russians musicians how to play music,,back to your stupid rock and rap young man ok.

  • Estuvo increible! Aunque creo que hubiera sonado aun mejor con mas participacion de las cuerdas =D

  • Браво ,прекрасно изпълнение

  • God gave them amazing talent :)

  • Thats in Bulgaria !

  • Wow, this absolutely awesome!

  • I love this version! Thrilling actually.

  • Yeah, that is very

  • wooooow, people just have to cough, dont they

  • i agree, there were to many coughs

  • genial, me encanta, no lo había escuchado nunca con orquesta, haha olé!

  • ignore those who try to downplay this performance, it is great. i wish i had a clear recording of it.

  • i dont know why ppl have to compare, its a very interesting version, refreshing in a way. At least its an attempt at a different approach! :)

  • I think the guitar version is better than piano version.

  • Very interesting interpretation and orchestration. Excellent, but different.

Although I prefer the guitar version, this one "grows" on me.

Ignore those who berate you -- they simply cannot accept change.

  • Who made the arrangement?

  • Sorry excuse for a masterpiece such as this. Untalented pianist cannot even pinch!!!! the keys , try and snap at the fly through the air even put your fingers in the water so fast and so surficed as if you attempt to steal a single drop of it off the top..

  • It sounds cool, but i think ( and this is just my opinion) the guitar version is deffinently better sounding.

  • Nice, but a little tame. It lacks a certain drama and oompah that I am used to from the piece. Your interpretation could use less vanilla and some more spice, and then it would be just right.

  • Yup. Talented and a good performance, but the arrangement lacks that thrilling, dramatic element. Incidentally, for an even more dramatic arrangement, look up the soundtrack for the movie "Mirrors", they used Asturias and it is action-movie-dramatic and really cool.

  • i completely agree there.

i miss the dramatic thrill of the piece... it's too perefect technically somehow.

although i like the orchestra version - interesting!

  • That is really, really great - faithful to the original tempo and flamenco roots - great orchestral score - excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Who is the pianist please ??? (his name)it's very important

  • Georgi Cherkin - Piano

  • Thank you dunder02 but I have find !

  • Hey! Listen to the Asturias version of Pablo Galdo in the youtube too!

  • damn, i wish i heard this live :(

  • Actually the piano version of this piece is the original. It is actually one of the most popular pieces of the spanish piano repertoire. Still very glad that philomelodia likes it so much as I love the guitar version also! Greetings!

  • I always wanted to know what it sounded like with a piano. My God, but this is beautiful! Hearing it this way gives me some new prospective on this piece. I'm familiar with it as the enormously popular part of the guitar repertoire that it is. Julian Bream's interpretation is particularly beautiful. Wonder why it never sees such popularity with pianists.

  • In fact, this is not the only orchestral version ever, since Nicolas Sarkozy, the french president, was sacred with this music because his ex-wife was Isaac Albeniz' nefiew, I think.

  • I just like how music sounds. I never look for some deeper meaning. haha. I liked it :) Good job!

  • Que preciosa interpretacion!

  • absolutely magnificent, marvelous interpretation

  • As far as I know, there are no other orchestral versions of this song. I love this piece and arranged it for piano and orchestra, because I had something to express :)

  • Well, my friend, you expressed it beautifully, I must say. I loved the violins in the second melody (the B part). Hats off all the way. ¡Magnifico!

  • @tcherkin William Joseph did his own little thing with this song, but I like your version better. He has a youtube video where he plays for Dr. Phil, but his album version is different. You should check it out! :)

  • Loved it! =]

  • wow. amazingly gifted. and hott. looks like val kilmer. he plays this extremely well and this should be viewed more than the other ones I have seen here on youtube. i prefer it on guitar nevertheless!

  • this is actually him, val kilmer.

  • Excellent!!! Bravo!!!

  • I find similarities between this and Paul Mauriat's rendition.

    Excellent performance!

  • Congratulations, excellent job, I like the violin solo, the tremolo the strings made at the beginning gives a very special atmosphere to the piece

  • sweeet :)

im doing this with my music class :)

    really excited. love the piece.

  • Excellent!!!!, which Orchestra was this?. I love the violin's solo part. One of the most beautiful parts of the original

  • this is awesome!

  • 알베니즈 전설의 새로운 맛을 알게 해 준다.

  • It is great!!!I love it!!Gratulation!!

  • having just read an extensive essay about Albéniz and his work, it is nice to hear this piano and orchestral arrangement. good job!

  • Πολύ ωραία εκτέλεση, αν και πιστεύω ότι η κιθάρα δίνει στο κομμάτι μια μαγεία που με το πιάνο χάνεται.

Very nice performance, even if the piano spoils the magic that a guitar can give on the same piece of music.

  • I can't believe that you transcribed the whole Peice Awesome

  • muy bonito

  • So wonderful video!!!. Cheers!!!, ~Sergio.

  • its very pretty, although the strings could be more dominant, because the piano makes them background

  • i think it's perfectly fine like this. well, maybe that's because i play the piano^^.

    great performance.

  • abi harbiden süper olmuş gavur mavur ama adamlar süper çalıyolar

  • too true.

  • haklısın kardeşim her kültürün kendine özgü güzellikleri var

  • Brilliant!

  • excellent!

  • Congratulations. This is excellent music and performance. I am thankful for the Lexus commercial that brought me here to enjoy your music. Thanks again!

  • FABULOUS!!!! A++++++

  • BRAVISSIMI! IO SONO UNA PIANISTA ITALIANA IL MIO NOME D ARTE E TITTA :p CIAO A TUTTI kisss

  • ı am a guitarist, ı study this piece nearly 3 months and now ı can play this piece well. This is the most awesome record and arrangement ı have ever listen(for asturias of course) :)))

  • what is wrong with you people??? this was amazing....who cares if at 3:16 there was a mess up or if the harp was weird...lets see you do it...that would be interesting....WTF? I do not understand why people make it a point to show their pious ignorance (which is revolting) to cut down music. Who is ever perfect?....the piano? the harp?...give it up and take in the music!!!!!

  • sounded a bit more jazzy than Spanish at times :)

  • I think it's one of the most beautiful musics in this world. When I listen it I think also about Edouard Lalo, with his "symphonie espagnole".

  • i can just agree with you. it's magnificent.

  • sounds great !! one thing though, that harp sounds slightley i dunno out of place :S

but still an amazing peice !!

  • beautifly thank you.....

  • AHHH now i remember.... its been bugging the shit out of me.... ITS IN THE LEXUS COMERCIAL!!!! :D:D hehe now i can move on to the next thing that buggs me :P

  • Bela escolha!

  • Great composition... Can anyone send me the notes of the piano version? I`m desperate to find them, and I`m from Serbia, so it`s hard to find it here..

  • go on emule

  • Who scored it for the orchestra?

  • Very beautiful indeed, the last part is just killer. Great Piece of Albeniz, great interpretation.

  • très beau le piano épatant

  • I have listened to a dozen versions of leyenda on guitar. In spite of the challenge this is a masterpiece that is meant to be played by guitar. Pity that guitarists seem to approach this piece as a challenge, the spirit is so strong. There is - for comparison only - that few versions of Voodoo chile played by Jimi Hendrix that can catch the spirit. But when it does, it brings tears to my eyes. The music is so compelling, that it should not be limited and judged by its technicalities.

  • Actually, Leyenda, like most of Albeniz' works, was originally scored for piano, despite its fame on the classical guitar.

However, as to your comments as to the passion involved in the piece, I cannot agree more.

  • The correct and original name is Asturias. This piece belongs to the "Suite Española", which is an orchestra composition that mostly represents the spanish taste of music. The Suite Española is made up of several pieces that, like this one, are named after cities or important places in Spain. That´s where the name Asturias comes from. Leyenda is an alternative name but not the one I would use.

  • Great performance! I loved it with full orchestra!

Would love to be able to purchase the arrangement

if I might know the publisher. I heard it for the first time at a Barrage Concert as a solo violin

piece. Does anyone have info on solo violin arrangement publisher.

    Thanks

  • bravo.

  • Lol.. awsome... but that guy on the piano was being soo cocky.

  • very nice, have you heard Asturias in a transcription for accordion? Well, its in my page ;)

  • oooooh! Nice! It's your arrangement? Well Done!

  • I'm curious. I've just bought the guitar music and begun to work on it. It's a German edition (Schott), and says that the original was for piano. That surprised me because I always thought it was originally a guitar solo.

So, which instrument was the music originally written for?

  • piano, like almost all albeniz music

  • Solo piano

  • Piano, it was transcribed by tarrega in E minor afterwards.

  • very good, I liked it a lot!!! I wonder how it sounds the orchestra and a guitar... would be very nice...

  • Took my breath away

  • Bravo! Pozdravleniq ot Kanada :)

  • Superb arrangement and a virtuoso performance indeed. I agree with the comments of the ones stating "so many colors". Indeed. Bravo. Mihaela

  • absolutely beautiful... so many colours!!! Beautiful arrangement, and beautiful piano playing as well. Just... BEAUTIFUL! I wish I could've been there.

  • Congratulations, it´s not the typical and topical arrange on spanish music. You are a good piano player. Thank you from Spain.

  • very nice

  • It's a nice arrangement maybe you should do a leyenda solo for violin
