I agree with you, Dalila was false and seductive. I think every singer expresses it in her own way. But she was very skillful and convincing in feigning tenderness and love, that's why Samson incautiously believed her. And Borodina's acting makes clear to you why Samson fell prey to her 'tenderness'.
The visual component is not to be dismissed. Borodina of course sounds out of this world but her beefiness is a distraction. Also Obraztsova although not as much. Janer Baker - Verrett - none of them looks like Hedy Lamarr but to listen to any one of them is a sublime fulfillment ...
different voice demonstrates different Dalila, Olga is the best Dalila at the moment (my view), seductive and sweet (her voice and interpretation) to make Samson surrenders to her tenderness.
Well...just discovered this voice and thanks for posting that. Great and sensual voice, perfect pronunciation (this lady definitely has studied the partition!) but... somewhere something is lacking: emotion? Too "sweetie"? Anyway, just beautiful!
I don't think that you have any right to make such comments because you clearly don't know good music at all. She is one of the true dramatic mezzo's and you should be privileged to get to hear her. Her singing is almost flawless and you can see she connects with every word. When you sing Dalila and Carmen at the met you let me know.
Well... her bottom register might sound great and perfectly well projected, but the contralto voice is much deeper and darker in texture... If you want an example of an excellent contemporary contralto, you might check out Sara Mingardo (though her repertoire is totally different from Borodina's).
Borodina is truly my favourite Mezzo. I love her sound from top to bottom, and her interpretations are always highlights!
I Love this DVD, the production isn't my favorite later in the opear but the singing is AMAZING. Borodina is a favorite and so is Domingo. Thanks for the add.
