From what was visible in your video you were clearly far enough away from the scene so as not to interfere with it's operations. Basically, you were all the way across the street from where the scene was. Therefore, you quite clear of the scene and it's operations.

This is yet another illustration of cops thinking they can make people do shit that simply is NOT lawful. I'm very glad these video's get posted here because it helps educate us in terms of just what our rights really are.

I tend to agree with the police because if the camera man have access without permission, then, he is in fact interfering with the investigation, and possibly destroying evidences in the process. incorrect, detectives werent there. under cover and plains clothes were there. but the the area was not taped off. people walked through the area the entire time i was there. you dont need permission to photograph crime scenes from public space. more important, the public sidewalk was still open to everyone to pass through. i was targeted out of about 20 people simply because i had a camera. if LAPD couldve done more they wouldve pursued me further, but couldnt. cop was just flexing for his pals

I was taking an image of an accident involving two deaths and an officer first asked if I was a journalist and I said no just an amateur hobbyist, photographer taking pictures and he told me to get lost. I said no I'm on a public street I have every right to shoot this. He tried to take my camera and right then I said fine I'll leave. Which was a fat lie I just walked across the other side and took out my 70-200 lens and just kept shooting.
