If the poet Edward Lear had heard this performance, he would have invented a new word to describe it, I am sure of that. Since he has not, I will have to settle for & use the word FABULOUS.
Truly amazing. I'm used to hearing this with full orchestra and am amazed how well it works with organ and piano. Both artists did themselves proud! Thanks so much for posting this.....
This is a marvellous , and typically bravura piece by Louis Moreau Gottschalk well played here by Jelani Eddington & David Harris - I love this splendidly over the top performance!
Bravo! I'm a big fan of the piece, and this arrangement is a brilliant departure from the ones I've heard before (four hands, two pianos, small ensemble, Hershy Kay's orchestration, and the solo version I play at). Thanks for sharing this with us fans of piano and theater organ.
Thank you so much for this awesome performance. I am so happy to be able to listen again to this great masterpiece after I was stolen my CD 10 years ago. I love the interpretation too.
wow, these two truly are amazing. I play the piano, but am not talented, however I discovered this song through my ballet class. We did a pice to it which would have been magnificent with the accompaniment of these musicians!
This is the most spactacular duet performance I have ever heard. I admit that I listen to this several times a month. I only wish that I could have heard this in person.
this is bizarre, not only is this a remarkable performance of one of my most favorite pieces of all time, (I now live in New Orleans near to the home of Mr. Gottschalk), but I was born and raised in Sarasota just off Bee ridge by that church...and my name is David Harris
STOP IT..... I keep coming back for MORE!!! Superb all the way around!! Jelani, PLEASEeeee release a DVD of these performances with and without duets. What a combination of organist and instrument... flawless! Great musicianship of performers!!!!! I can't help itttttt... I got to come back!~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
its the organ that makes the percussion sounds too.
Theatre organs were designed to replace and orchestra, and sound like one, so they have many different instruments within them, like pianos, glockenspeils, marimbas, chimes, bells, which are all played from the keyboards at the console.
@robbiethemann It is the organ. The Forker Memorial Wurlitzer Organ in Grace Baptist Church is a Style 260 Special. The percussions almost always included a Harp/Marimba, Xylophone, Glockenspiel, Chrysoglott, Cathedral Chimes (24 note), and the usual toy shelf and traps.
Alan Marks is considered to be one of the finest pianists and exponents of Gottshalks unbelievebaly difficult pices of music to play. Hearing it on The Mighty Wurlizter and Grand Piano brings this to life. Great listening. Not played ofen enough
I love this piece, one of my favorites for piano and orchestra. It's amazing how the organ is so versatile in sound... I imagine it's more difficult than piano since feet play a big role. Bravo!
Amazing! Gottschalk was one fantastic pianist and to see his music on organ is worth wild! I have only heard Le Banjo on organ by Diane Bish. So, this is truely remarkable. Proud to say the Gottschalk was from my home state, Louisiana.
If the poet Edward Lear had heard this performance, he would have invented a new word to describe it, I am sure of that. Since he has not, I will have to settle for & use the word FABULOUS.

I hope that the audience at Grace Baptist Church appreciated what they heard here. How great was Gottschalk ! A fine job by both performers.

What an excellent video, and what enviable performing facilities your Baptist Church evidently has.

I love hearing songs like this on theater organs. This piece would sound so good on the Sanfillipo theater/symphonic organ.

Deux magnifiques interprètes servant admirablement Gottschalk. Le piano n'est pas étouffé par l'orgue : remarquable ! Encore !

Perhaps the greatest piece of music by an American composer and superbly performed. Bravo!
