This reminds me of the beginning of the most known symphony of Gorecki (classical !!!). Stretch out your ears, the beginning is quite difficult to hear !
(The third symphony is about people locked in Auschwitz.... so sad !!!)
No matter how I feel, every time i listen to this piece it relaxes me, makes me think about how beautiful life is and how lucky I am to enjoy every bit of it.
I've come to appreciate that, even though there are wars, even though there is disease, even though there are droughts and floods, and even though there is death, we can look to the good things in life. This is one of those good things. Thank you, Johann Johannsson. Thank you.
Thumbs up if you came from the "Carl Sagan Tribute Series" to listen to this, it still brings tears to my eyes because of it's beauty, also the song too, I was talking about Carl at first, the songs great too. :)
If I ever became successfully and made a epic sci-fi movie I will use this music in my intro... I am in my mid 30s I dont think that dream will be take shape... my ideas are free to use
Even if the movie isn't good, which it is, the mere fact that it has promoted a great song and artist, and thereby brought more beauty into the world is an achievement for the greater good of mankind.
I thought the movie was great, so many people hated it because they expected much more, I just expected it to be a great action flick, and that's exactly what I got. Everyone apparently now are movie critics and nitpick tiny little things that you really can't even notice. People these days just follow what's mainstream, shit music like Justin Bieber is only popular because he is popular. The world is so fucked up right now.
@MissWolfiee Simple music for simple people. You are just dealing with inferior people. Of course they don't like it, because they are incapable of understanding it, they cannot comprehend the beauty of it. Their souls are shallow and petty. It's as stark a difference as between good and evil.

I always searched for that one beautiful epic piece of music, but they were always short, but when I heard this, I said it carried me on forever and ever and well I thinking my search might be done with this song. This is truly a BEAUTIFULLY WONDERFUL PIECE OF MUSIC!
This is true. An extension of the soul. The mechanism that breaks the barrier that words cannot pierce. In a sense, everyone who has heard this song knows Johann Johannsson. It makes me so happy to know that someone still understands how to make great....music? No not music. Art.
why don't you two stop bitching? music is supposed to be interpreted differently by everyone. that's what makes it so unique. everyone hears it differently. if he thinks of the war and politics, alright. if you don't, alright. no point in arguing.

@tuopvm you shut up! Thats just what i think about when i listen to this. Its how i feel. I bet you are one of those people that think the U.S is turning against, like 9/11 was our fault
@tmanfender "Its how i feel." Listen to yourself. I'll bet you're a chick. No one cares how u feel about the war or politics. At least not here. Get the sand out of your vag and take your feelings to some other vid.
purely magical, its also just as great looking at the comments and everybody seems to feel the same way!!!!! no fighting, its a rarity these days!!!!!!! from all walks of life, all races, i respect you all, much love!!!!!
@z4crad ive only discovered this guys work since the battle los angeles trailer like a lot of other people also i suspect, but, i quite like the fact that there isnt 1000000000 people listeining to this over biebler, makes me appreciate the fact even more that am in a minority of lucky people and so many out there are unaware, thing is, lots of people wouldnt appreciate master peices like this, so let them stick to there rubbish music :)
Listening to this song makes me feel like I am an eagle looking down on the world and realizing how majestic this world can be and no matter how hard things get and how hellish the world can be as long as there is one person standing firm and with an ounce of courage and hope in this world. He might take a beaten during his stand but he chooses not to falter and with that this world might not be so bad... and we fly off into the sunset looking forward to another dawn.
Yoko does sound SIMMILAR to this-but not exactly. Johann took his own approach to a simmilar musical theme... both are great and unique in their own ways. i respect them both.
BTW, just in case you didn't know Yoko Kanno (as Johann Johannsson assumed you didn't) you might wanna listen to her diverse musical genius starting with a classical track "Dance of Curse II" to pure consonant melodies sung by a children's choir with "Green Bird" and her truly cerebral cyberpunk soundtrack "Torukia". She is a prolific composer of anime soundtracks so I suggest you simply watch Cowboy Bebop, Escaflowne and Stand Alone Complex. I can't believe how pretentious this dude is.
@pablobanila Have you listened to any Sigur Ros? Morricone? Gorecki? Bryars? All of these have made music which can be compared with Johannsson and with Yoko Kanno, but any talk of plagiarism is, well, slander. I hesitate to be more cross with you, as you´re probably a 15 year old in bedroom somewhere who´s musical experience comes mostly from anime and video games. Well, you got a world of music to discover, just refrain from calling people plagiarists on the basis of your limited knowledge.
@TheFgfhgh And your ad hominem attack simply betrayed your ignorance of the underground wealth of art and music in the anime and video game industry. It is the only industry that attracts the best artists and musicians for the artistic freedom of doing away with Hollywood productions and expensive orchestra. Kanno encapsulated the essence of this song in 4 minutes in her debut album, and each song in that album is a demonstration of her diverse genius in every genre; she even makes new ones.
stunningly beautiful and moving... does it end that quickly though? it seemed like it was building up to a big, emotional final note but instead it just stoped... regardless, this was amazing. thank you for uploading it.
I tripped shrooms and played this while we were driving through the snowy mountains of Colorado. As the tempo slows down towards the last segment of the song I began to see time itself slowing. I was awestruck. It was absolutely amazing. Yet it was frightening because both the car and my body began to move as slow as everything else was and it scared me so I changed the song lol. It is definitely a powerful song.
Melodies from a place where time goes by while standing still. All the material seems to fall apart and what remains is poetry, and the forgotten melancholy these harmonies remind us of.
@Aida82c Because Johan Johansson is a fraud. Fordlandia (2008) was PLAGIARIZED from Yoko Kanno's "The man in the desert" from her 1998 debut album. The whole Fordlandia album copied the song as-is: the melody, motif, the whole rising theme and overall arrangement -- even the chorus. I mean, WTF. This guy even received accolades as a "modern classical" "composer". BTW, another plagiarized "masterpiece" is Clint Mansell's Lux Aeterna copied from Cradle of Filth - Lustmord and Wargasm.
seriously dude!? wth i'll look into ur mentioned artists and judge for myself. Sucks if he did plagiarized stuff. I had johánn in high regard, maybe if he did give the track a boost by doing his own version i wouldn't mind.
@Vannius6 Johann, in particular Fordlandia was recommended to me by a friend I blindly respect, so it was hard for me to inform him that, yes, sadly, Johann did plagiarize this "masterpiece" from Yoko Kanno's "The man in the desert" (Song to fly). Yoko Kanno had a similar controversy, but since she was told by directors to "make a song that sounds like this song" it's forgivable -- given that she's written HUNDREDS of originals in every genre. Still I'll keep an open mind with Johann.
@pablobanila Listen, you need to have at least some knowledge of music before you start accusing people of plagiarism. Any fool can hear there is there is very little similarity between Fordlandia and the track you mention beyond the repetitive use of (very different) chord sequences and the slow buildup and epic feel.
@TheFgfhgh : "chord sequences" "slow buildup" "epic feel" I can see why you closed your account. We aren't talking about the details of a particular chord like spotting every brilliant deceptive cadence. This can't even be called "modern" in itself because there is no motivic development until you listen to the rest of the CD -- and calling that hour-long development "modern" is slander to the revolutionary rhythms of Stravinsky. The main idea -- the slow and steady rising steps, was Kanno's.
@Aida82c I just found this song. I was just sitting here ripping through some calculus and then this came on. I was just stunned and stopped working for the duration of the song. Seriously amazing.
@Aida82c True. While there are such great works there is still lady gaga and madonna. The majority of the people are dumb. Its not their fault. They are hypnotized by the marketing of crap-music industry. They lack education and original thoughts.
@Aida82c For a billion people that ever lived, one had the ability to access the internet. For a million people that accessed the internet, one found this. Kind of puts it in perspective and if i may draw parallels to the outside odds of molecular entities one day asking about existence after given 4 billion years, we are fortunate, very fortunate.
This is the song that has truly moved me and brought me to tears. Very well done.
