Wow, this is great! I plan on making a costume for something soon and I need to craft a pair of shoes for it, was leaning towards wood for part of them because I figured it would hold up well to what I'm going to do to it, I think I've made the right choice for at least part of the materials...(I know it won't be easy to do, and I've accepted that. I also am planning on spending a good portion of time on them though.)
i shame me for my county at 4:37 everyone outlander thinks dutchies wears wooden shoes. The next one consider asking me if i wear wooden shoes i strangle with a tulip
Sorry, I am a movie maker, not an expert on the subjects. When humid, willow wood is well to work on. Maybe there are other sorts of wood than can be used as well.
I used to work in a klompen fabriek back in the early eighties and we used machinery to shape the outer and inner shapes & various sizes but someone still had to carve the rough outer shape using a bandsaw.
@VTwanderer It looks like a log peeling(or drawing) knife. It's a blade used for peeling the bark off of logs. It looks like it was adapted for shaping wood in the workshop.
yes, they are but it takes some getting used to wearing them. And you really can't compare the ones made for tourists with the proper ones made for actual use.
I translate: I am pleased to notice that you are happy. At the moment I work on a documentary film about old Amersfoort (a historical town in the centre of the country) Today I made a presentation movie for an artist. You will find another couple of my short movies if you search for radio batavia (or use my YouTube screen name "19simba42"
I have no idea how much wooden shoes cost these days.
But it is sure that in those souvenir shops they are to expensive. It is better to buy them in the same places where the farmers and other country folk buys them

@19simba42 I am a movie maker and would prefer making wooden shoes than the stressful job of working in the motion picture industry.

What is the name of that large knife attached to the log? I would love to know more about it, it looks like it would be useful for many things.
VTwanderer 1 year ago
@VTwanderer "Paalmes" is the name in Dutch. It could be translated as pole knife.

As a young boy I wore them all the time when I was at my grandfather's farm. The clumps are very comfortable and you never have wet feet.
