This "theory" was actually coined by the Journalist that wrote "The Rise and the Fall of the Third Reich", a book which is held in contempt by academic historians and isn't taken seriously by anyone.

Anti-semitism was a common phenomena in all of Europe at that time, look at the Dreyfus affair, look at the progroms in Russia.

They almost followed spain's example, and the Catholic church had put restrictions on Jews as well. His preatching was a product of thousands of years worth of prejudice. So yes due to his huge role in Germany he contributed, but if he had been taught differently I think he wouldn't have preatched against Jews so harshly.
