  • It's from a Just For Laughs show. It's a comedy festival in Montreal, and the reruns never end. I'm a recovering television addict.

  • Who doesnt Love Shatner eh? 14 jealous Americans disliked this video and a few had a good cry...lol

  • @k8V1000 Actually I use to really like Canadians and Canada in general...I mean,ya sure you gave us Captain Kirk and we are thankful for that....John Candy ,Micheal Myers,Kheffer Sutherland all great actors.....Then you gave us Justin Bieber! I hope Canadians understand this cancels out all good you have ever done.

  • @USAdude30 Yes I know....you know what ,as annoying as everyone can get over these kids,he's probably a great kid :-) However I will apologize for Celine Dion.

  • @k8V1000 Lol..I hear ya,just joking around and we gave you Miley Cyrus so actually now that I think about it,maybe were even:D

  • I am sure the comments are full of canadian people obsessing over their identity (or lack thereof) and their contributions to the world.

  • Actually, Scotty or James Doohan, landed at tha Canadian beach at Normandy. His unit was attacked while crossing a mine field and the finger was shot off. He was hit by between 3 and 7 other bullets in the same skirmish. But you're right, he is Canadian. :-)

  • Scotty Was Canadian too

Who as a pilot in WWII lost his right middle finger in a crash. They kept the missing finger hidden during the 3 years of the show but in the movie "The Final Frontier" they showed it.

  • He is Québécois lol

  • its obviously a french crows in montreals just for laughs because they take retardedly long pauses to laugh

  • @walkertexasranger33

no it's not that, they're all friggin drunk.

  • vuvuzela ftw.

  • Hey! I really freaking laughed at this. Screw the haters. You made my day :D

  • @mstanoev I love that festival!

  • In a world where borders and cultures are blending more and more, blowing your own horn becomes more difficult and arrogent.(but this is still amusing)

  • I loved his shtick during the Olympic Closing Ceremonies last night.

  • Loved this!!

It gets so old, the bashing, the booing. It's nice to find a video to make me laugh

  • Are you illiterate or dumb? Let me spell it out for you, I am a naturally born, United States citizen. And you love the scrotum in your mouth, teabagger! Have a nice day:-)

  • @CanucksMakeMePuke3: As one American to another, you're a real POS. Great job capitalizing on a horrific death for political gain. Hope you feel like the rotting vaginal secretion that everyone knows you are. If I ever heard you say that in my presence, I would personally curb stomp you until you started crying for your mom. Little cum stains like you don't deserve to live in America. Canada has always been there for the US, and dickless little shits like you give us a bad name.

  • Canuckmakemepuke2. Little things, We Canadians are like québécois, des être humains ! Oui, nous sommes humains tout comme toi mais avec la politesse et la noblesse en plus.

  • William, my name is Jean-Pierre Chabot and I am a québécois proud to be canadiam ! If you want to no why, see on You Tube my 4 "capsules", Do jeanpierrechabot Salut les copains

  • The audio comes from William Shatners appearance at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal

  • Another Canadian who came to America and prospered. If he had remained in Canada, in all likelihood he would have remained an unknown.

  • yeah, that's for sure

  • Hollywood is the centre of a global entertainment industry. Although Hollywood is in the US less than 75% of the people who work there are Americans. The Warner Brothers and Louis B Mayer were Canadians. Canada has 1/10th the population of the US yet more than 15% of the people working in Hollywood are Canadian. Jim Carrey, Pamela Anderson, Keanu Reeves, Kiefer Sutherland, Mike Myers, Avril Lavigne, Rachel McAdams, Matthew Perry, Brendan Fraser, Sandra Oh to name a few.

  • Leonard Nimoy is a Canadian too. As is Dan Ackroyed, Tommy Chong of Cheech and Chong, Paul Haggis, & Michael J Fox. The Canadian writer and director of "Titanic" Paul Cameron has generated $1.1B in revenue for Hollywood. He wrote and directed "Terminator" starring an Austrian who is now the governor of California. The governor of Michigan is also a Canadian.

  • Ok. Yes to everything. Except it's James Cameron. Not Paul. Minor Correction, but I couldn't help myself.

  • Thanks $:^)

I thought of Haggis and Cameron at the same moment and "gave them" the same first name.

  • @C130C5a Leonard Nimoy is American, he was born in Boston.

  • Nimoy was born in Boston, Mass. So you better proof your work before you sell your shit. Have a nice day.

  • dobber213. Perhaps you missed the previous comment that pointed out my error. A public forum such as this is a great place to share information. Resorting to profanity, insults, threats etc. simply cheapens the venue and discredits the one doing the insulting. By employing the language you chose you paint the picture of someone who is rude, intolerant, and probably poorly educated.

I hope that you don't mind that both Nimoy and Shatner are Jewish.

  • Of course I don't "mind". Why would I bring up the matter that he was born in the US? I agree with you that Canadians, Arnold as well as many others have prospered in the US. You were also pointing out how great this country is because great Canadian talent crossed the border and were able to fulfill their dreams, here. I am sorry for misunderstanding. I did say have a nice in my post and at least I was not condescending.

  • Keifer Sutherland was born in London, United Kingdom and not Canda. Donald Sutherland who is Keifer Sutherland was born in Saint John, New Brunswick Canada. So Kiefer Sutherland is a British-Canadian. Keifer Sutherland may have Canadian parents but he WAS BORN in Great Britian. Funny enough Jerry Springer of the Jerry Springer Show, was himself born in London, United Kingdom at Highgate Tube Station.

  • Actually I think Kief's mum is American. He is a Canadian citizen and identifies himself as being a Canadian as well as being an American. I do not know if he ever had UK citizenship.

  • No. She is Shirley Douglas (daughter of the father of health care and the NDP Tommy Douglas.)

  • That's right. I had forgotten. Thanks for reminding me. Tommy Douglas was a Canadian icon and like most English speaking Canadians of his era, he was born in Scotland.

  • Canada and the UK are both dominions under the same monarch so what you're saying is rather unimportant. Not to mention the fact that Keifer considers himself Canadian which is all that really matters.

  • Very true, cause there is alot more work to be found in the U.S in that industry. But, then after they get the jobs, a huge percentage of productions of movies and tv shows are filmed in Canada because it is way cheaper and there are great locations. That is why they call Canada "Hollywood North" and we all benefit.

  • The interesting thing about the entertainment business in general is that most countries offer special visas to people with unique "talent". That is why professional athletes and entertainers find it so easy to move to other countries. For example: whenever an American baseball player gets traded to a Canadian team, there is no risk that Canadian immigration will prevent that player from coming to Canada "to work" unless they have a criminal record. The US accepts foreign actors cast in US shows

  • your obsessed with canada, creep stalker.

  • My Canada eh

  • LOL

  • hehe :D

  • canada... eh?

  • good one.

  • Ooh clever.

  • And Shatner's Just for Laughs performance was in turn a takeoff on a Canadian beer commercial that had the same music in the background. You can find it here on youtube: search "I am Canadian"

  • The audio is from WIlliam Shatner's performance at the Montreal Just For Laughs Comedy Festival (hense the huge round of applause when he mentiones montreal lol)

not sure if this has already been posted, but i didn't feel like reading through all the comments lol

  • Two American icons. Kirk and Picard. Canadian and British. Awesome.

  • Another American icon. Spock. Jewish. Live long and prosper! :)

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOo we've got Captain F'n Kirk, what else do I need to say? :) I AM Canadian too!

  • @ngfxoxo - Not ONLY was the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) commanded by a Canuck, but it's Chief Engineer was a Canuck too! Jame Doohan was born in Vancouver BC in 1920 - became a Commissioned Officer with the 13th Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery (RCA) during WWII & participated in the D-Day invasion at Juno Beach. Wounded shortly after D-Day, he became an Air Observer Pilot for the RCA flying with 666 (AOP) Sqn, RCAF for the remainder of the war as the "craziest pilot in the RCAF"

    w00ters!

  • i woud have killed t be able to go to his big game for charity in 2002.... i wish there was another one of those... oh man would that have been great.

  • WOW, I rofl'd throughout the entire thing....

  • im from Montreal!!! and Shat is the shit

  • Awesome video! Many thanks. Cheers!

  • man i thought it was a speech to graduates or something, which would have been awesome.......but i guess just for laughs in montreal makes sense too

  • I live in California too, but having to hear this gives me a lot of pride because I lived in Montreal for a year, and my dad thought right to pass his Canadian citizenship to me. I vacation there without a problem. Yes, though not truly, I AM CANADIAN ALSO.

    Good job on that tribute!

  • If you lived in Montreal and your Dad passed his Canadian Citizenship on to you and you get this video ...Then YOU ARE CANADIAN! Respect

  • way to be shatner, ya hoser

  • coooooooooooooooooool

  • Shat's a God

  • goooo willy

  • SHATNER ROCKS!!!!!!

  • lol@shatner

  • No Boston Legal references? Boo.

  • I think this predates BL

  • The Shat is a funny man.

  • he is trying to make the world a better place.

  • Hey you didn't play the rest...:(

  • You realy need a sense of humor to live in California,

    Bills kewl,

  • Shatner is great because he does not take himself too seriously. He knows he is ripe for parody & takes it in stride.

  • Is it me or is he everywhere these days? haha it's cool, I love him....he really has got better with age...he's like a Canadian fine wine!!

too funny!! (I AM CANADIAN)! proud to have such a funny guy from our neck of the world!!

  • He's become too self-consciously hammy to be funny anymore. Camp is not funny when you're obviously too aware about it. Download bits of Shatner's singing from the 70's, like Mr. Tambourine Man and Rocket Man. These are MUCH funnier because you realize that he wasn't aware at the time how awful they are.

  • take a chill pill one I was 20 and stupid ...now I an 50 and wiser ....things change ! one day you will look back and say "what was I thinking".

  • haha this is hilarios

  • Mr Denny Crane!!! love William Shatner and his first country! :-)

  • LOL. This was cute.

  • does a tribble actually qualify as a puppet it looks more like a dust bunny stuck to the wall

  • Great. Actually I am not the biggest William Shatner fan, but this shows me that he has sometimes a good humour. I just say ... Denny Crane. ;-)

  • wow, great job, it made me laugh a lot :)

  • What a great actor & icon.

  • Note: Just for Laughs (in French Juste pour rire) is a comedy festival held each year in Montreal, Quebec.

  • About the recording...

The success of the Molson Beer TV commercial "I am Canadian" led to many parodies.

William Shatner, who is Canadian, performed his own variation on the idea in a Just for Laughs(*) appearance. He announced to the world: "I am not a Starfleet commander, ...or T.J. Hooker." The rant continues, making fun of Trekkies and his own typecasting as James T. Kirk. During the course of the piece, Shatner states that his beer of preference is Molson's competitor Labatt.

  • The full video of William Shatner doing this skit is located here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFpIaBvoWrQ

  • Heya! If you post a "Video response" with your vid, I'll approve it. I didn't even know it originated on the CBC, but it doesn't surprise me actually.
