These are long finned eels. you get two species in NZ, the long and short finned. the long grow bigger, and have very fat heads and a dolphin like mouth/head. If you fell in injured/bleeding its guranteed they will strip you to the bone over time.
try feeding dem with ur hands they cum right up on top and slide through ur hands jst dnt have the food near ur fingers have it on ur palmsso they jst take it and slide off instead of having to bite less chance of getting biteen
Goddamn I am hungry. Mind you they are a bit small so should leave them alone.
The eels are starting to decline as people start to build out in the country and dry up the drains or remove cover where eels can hide. Big ones are starting to get rare because people keep the little guys. The little guys (3 inches diameter 2 foot long) are bullied by and collect food for the big guys. Thankfully most eels have a fear of man and don't take you like in the old days.
eew I hate eels. I use to have a creek out back o fmy joint, and I use to catch them. I caught one about a metre long and as fat as a leg. It was eating all the ducks in that river, and I like ducks more. I cut off it's head. As I was getting the hook out of it's mouth you culd feal it moving! it was creepy.
These are NZ Eels which are plentiful throughout NZ commonly known as Tuna by the Local Native New Zealand Maori. There is a demand for these Tuna and they are commercially fished in the rivers however locals are noticing a decline in larger Eels.
They are big for sure. I´ve seen them in New Zealand to. 2 meters long and take small ducks and mouse. Pretty amazing. You find a lot of them at Lake Taupo. The Maui call them Tuna
They are called longfins or long fin eels. Jeremy Wade

These are fresh water eels. Beyond that, I don't know any other details about them. They are wild though!
