  • Couldn't happen today. The first guy would have Googled it and told everyone else.

  • I was 12 years old in 1969 when this came out.

  • @msboricua57 My mom was 11, my dad was 14, and my stepdad was 15 when Sesame Street was debuted in that year.

  • I think its called La di da di dum?

  • I LOVE SESAME STREET!!!!!!!

  • whats the name of that song that they're singing about. hmmm

  • @TicklemeB00 , "What's the Name of that Song?".

  • Wow...takes me right back to the happy memories of being 4!!

  • David is the guy in orange shirt who started the song, played by Northern Calloway.

The black bold guy is Gordon, played by Roscoe Orman.

  • Gordon is rockin that beard. Always loved David.

  • They did another verison of this featuring Forgetful Jones.

  • hey! maria would not be allowed to show her belly button now!

  • @ monicalee23 - I only found out today about David!! =(

  • @yuutuben whos david?? the white dude?

  • @bawain no it's the black bald dude.

  • This must've been from season 2 or later since Oscar was orange in season 1.

  • It's from season 6.

  • is this the original one?

  • @platnmMNKY It appears to be (at least according to Muppet Wiki)

  • I wish my town just broke out into song every now and then

  • Wow, this was before my time. Everyone was so young!

  • I LOOOOVE Northern Calloway's voice :'')

  • @Zyphon400 If you like Northern's voice you can find it in Beep or on Six Snakes.

  • gosh- maria and bob were young! but then i was about 3 or so when this aired......

  • Absolutely adored Northern Calloway. Taken away too soon at 41.

  • I absolutely loved this song!!!!! I still love this song!!!!!

  • One of my favorite songs. It was written by the late Sam Pottle who came in after Joe Raposo (RIP). This show dates back to the mid 1970s- I'd guess 74 or 75. I was directing the show in those days as well as editing it. It's sad to realize so many people in this scene are no longer - Sam, David, Hooper, and Mr Macintosh - the vendor, who was actually the show's stage manager - Chet O'Brien. Yes, the "old days" were classic, and I'm glad I was there.

  • @ozzie300 Thanks for sharing your memories. Looking at the hairstyles, set dressing, and Roscoe's beard leads me to think that this was 1974. I was born three months before Sesame Street debuted and literally grew up watching the show.

  • RIP Mr. Hooper<3

  • I srsly need the chords

  • Hi. My name is Brenda. I'm a former Sesame Street Junkie. :) I learned so much from this show, as did my older kids. I agree w Shakjamer, this IS the greatest kids' show ever!

  • Sesame street never gets old to me or my son!

  • I wish I lived there! Where people are smiling and singing, Kermit's reporting, Count's counting, Big bird's passing by, children playing together freely without scared of being harassed, picked up, bullied, or even getting hit by a truck. Is there such a place? Because I need to look for a place to rent there!

  • oh wow this take's me back to my good old childhood years!!!! if we could only go back!!!

  • I was born in 79 so this episode is just a little before my time. Sesame Street used to be a great show when I was a kid. I was literally a Sesame Street junkie back then. Unfortunately, Elmo's World took over the last half hour of the show. He used to be cute, but having to listen to him speak in third person for a half hour is annoying. Not to mention the political correctness bullshit that took over as well.

  • Omigod, this is the old school cast. I love them.

  • White Christmas!? What are you thinking David?

  • woow. this guys have been there for a WHILE

  • This the best kids show ever!

  • I just love how this was the only show with black people when I was growing up as a kid xD

  • I will take this over that Qubo and Cookie Jar TV stuff ANY day of the week. And this first came out in late '74, people. Sesame Street Old School rules!

  • I love this video, so cool

  • good grief, they're all SO YOUNG!

  • omg i used to sing this song all the time

  • the Classic Sesame Street! oh its love all over again.

  • my little brother la de da de dam loves it

  • This is my favorite version of this song. David, Bob, Gordon, Susan, Maria, Luis, Mr. Hooper . . . . . all my favorites are here! Well, with the exception of Linda, Olivia, and Gina, but nothing's perfect.

  • omg!! it's the count!!!

    and he's still a puppet!!

    and there's mister cooper

  • Oh my gosh, is that Bob?

  • @phoenixphire4ever that would be David... :D I watched this in the early 70s I think! Crazy!!

  • Is the death of Northern Calloway the reason for not airing Beep anymore? (as an anything muppet).

  • my son and i love this show and this song!

  • which gordon is this?

  • oh my goodness its Mr. Hooper!!

I miss him so much, my mouth dropped to see him again!

  • So did mine! "OMG Mr Hooper!"

  • this is going to be stuck in my head all day

  • La de da de da , la de da de da, I wanted to sing along.

  • OMG! Is that Wille Dynamite?

  • wat happened to david??

  • The actor Northern Calloway, who played David, passed away in 1990 due to stomach cancer.

  • Who is Gordon in this song, and how long can Chet's (Mr. McIntosh) fruit stay fresh under those lights?

  • A mess up? Where? The whole song is perfect! One of the most beautiful songs on this DVD, in fact, aside from Madeline Kahn singing to Grover (see related videos). Big nostalgia fest for us in our 20s, 30s, and 40s.

  • "white christmas!"

  • I wish Sesame Street would release this version of the song -- with N. Calloway. The newer, re-released versions with new singers just aren't as good!

  • Everytime I watch this I wait for an applause at the end.

  • المقطع حلو جدا

  • أجل

  • This brings back memories. I love Sesame Street.

  • David: White Christmas!

    All: No!

    David: Danny Boy!

    LOL

  • How come Bob isnt on Sesame street anymore just gordon maria and luis

  • The man is in his 70s. That may have something to do with it.

  • I dont think it has anything to do with it, mr hooper was older than Bob is now and he was still acting

  • old school sesame street makes me happy, rip david =(

  • @monicalee23 he died ?!

    :(

  • Comment removed

  • @amsfz Yes; It was Mr. Cooper and David plaed by Northern Calloway.

  • anyone know that cast of this number? Esp. the two singers at the beginning? They look familiar.

  • David is the african-american and Bob is the white man.

  • Northern Calloway, Bob McGrath

  • Loved Bob.

  • good thing there's an iPhone app for people who have this problem.

  • Look how young they are! Esp Bob and Luis.

  • Maria look'n good :D

  • ahh the good ol days of Sesame Street, why did they have to bring ELmo on the show? he ruined it

  • goathater: Uhh...I hate to break your bubble, but the owners of Sesame Street themselves were the "fatcrats" whose interviews lead to that New York Times article. Unfortunately, times and people have changed & I cannot say it's for the better.

  • OMFG this song = lovely memories

  • I love the old american sesame street, the german is mucht to naiv

  • i dig those sideburns, David -_-

  • the reason why everybody in this video is happy is because Elmo wasn't around lmao!!

  • aww come on, he use to be good, back in the 80's.

  • that's because he wasn't around alot in the 80's he was a backround muppet back then, now it's ELmo this and Elmo that.

  • elmo sells merchandise. that simple.

  • @farche2 Cause the people who buy it don't know any better.

  • @Blondiegreeneyes72 Amen to that !!!

  • OMG!!!!! Mr Hooper!!!!! - 3:12

  • Oh the days when there were more humans than puppets on sesame street.

  • oh!!!!! Mr. Hooper. i remember when he passed away. Big Bird was so sad.. so was I. they had to explain to BB what was going on. He's only 6 you know. LOL

  • wow! i haven't heard this in years but as soon as it started i remembered the words. and what happened to the original gordon and susan?

  • gordon and susan are still on there.

  • whats the name of that song is it......

  • Wow, talk about "The Waaaaay-back Machine!"

What is the name of the first guy that sings? I've totally drawn a blank but its been like 33 years... I remember everyone else, though I'd forgotton what a nice voice Bob had....

  • David! Played by Northern Calloway. He was my absolute favorite human character back when I was a kid.

  • Look at how young Bob and Luis are in this episode? Unbelievable!

  • what is it they say in spanish?

  • "Como se llama la cancion?" or What's the name of that song? in Spanish

  • ahh! i was gonna look up another song after this...and now i forgot what i was gonna look up!!!!! (oh the irony)

  • yeah, this was in the 70;s but i remeber this from the 90's (im 19)

  • I'm going to have this stuck in my head all day now.

  • Comment removed

  • Oscar rocks SS lol

  • poor mr hooper died

  • From 1974.

  • they are all so happy lol i love it!

  • wow, i can't believe that SS is getting a daytime emmy, the "Lifetime achievment award". I grew-up watching SS when i was young and living on the farmhouse in Canton, SD. ah memories.

  • its about time

  • I bet 30 something years later, they STILL don't know the name of that song! :)

  • we still don't!!!!! you guys wrote it so tell us the name please

  • What's the Name of That Song IS the name of that song! That's why it's funny!

  • That isn't Gordon at the biginning, it's David! I remember him from a long time ago. Bob had a little more hair in those days then he does now. Wow, everyone looked so different then how they look now! I even remember Mr Hooper & Mr Macintosh!

  • yea, but David isnt on anymore is he?

  • I don't think so. I haven't seen him on for a long time.

  • You're right, he passed away several years ago (around 1991 or so).

  • It actually was in 1989 that he passed away. Some places say 1990, but I think it was really 1989.

  • David is my uncle he died from cancer and he was arrested a few time for some reason but im not lying

  • Creatureofthedepths3 Please say this isn't true...

  • its true

  • Well, if David was your uncle, then you know he was a very talented, well-loved actor on Sesame Street. It was very sad what happened to him and he is missed! Feel proud so many fans still enjoy his work via youtube, DVDs, etc.

  • wow.

  • Holy shit gordon had hair. LOL

  • Isn't Gordon bald back then too?

  • no i mean he had hair on his face and now he has no hair at all.

  • Thanks for stating the obvious. IF i'm not mistaken.

  • The second man to sing? That's Bob McGrath, one of the longest-running cast members on Sesame Street. He's definitely American.

  • haha ok. he just looks like an australian singer

he has a really good voice too. so i thort they were the same.

    silly me

  • This song is also seen on Old School Volume 2.

  • What a nice song!

  • Man, Bob McGrath had a great voice. And Northern Calloway was no slouch either.
