if you screw the back screws out does the bridge tilt up or down? my floyd rose is slightly unbalanced by around 1/4 of an inch pivoted upwards (im in standard EADGBe)
The reason i ask if screwing out tilts the bridge upwards is because in my minds eye i think of screwing in being what would pull the bridge down sinking it into the body. thanks for any help in advance, and very nice video. very clear, accurate, and understandable.
This is actually very good and simple video "how to". I just watched it and gathered some experience without being required to do trial and error system :) . Thanks for posting this.
Hey, I have a Schecter Syn Custom that I just had re-strung at a local guitar shop. After picking it up I realized that the bridge was not level with the body and was sunk into the guitar. After watching the video I have a decent understanding of how to adjust it, but i'm wondering what happens if I play it in the state it is now? Thanks.
is it ok if I leave my bridge little leveled up to raise action (my strings buzz on certain frets).I raised it just litle so it doesn't buzz (almost unoticable).
hey dude great vid. i wanted to tune down my guitar from standard to half a step down. i do it but then it just comes back up. do i have to adjust th4ee bridge/?
hey guys, i really need some help here. i have a Cort vx 4v and the hammer on and pull off sound on the last few frets such as 20th to 24th frets is very less and almost equals to nothing.what can i do to make it more audible?
@viperabs thanks it seems that its much more flex now that ive used it more but still wondering if i tune it to D standard with 11 gauge strings if it will be even more flex
1)This might sound stupid but the screws on my spring just wouldn't budge even until my fingers are worn out. I can't tune it higher because i can't adjust the spring tension.
2)It is currently tuned at Drop C but I want it back at Standard E.
3)String gauge is 10, 13, 17, 30, 44, 52.
Solution to the first problem should be the key. Hope you can help. Thanks.
@megadroogie90 Screws are supposed to be used with a screwdriver, not your fingers. Don't hurt yourself! You need to just swap to 9-46's and that should almost put you into standard tuning with balanced bridge.
my trem arm is rather difficult to push down and you seem to push yours down with ease. im wondering if this has to do with the amount of springs (5) and/or the fact that its in standard tuning with 10 gauge strings. its a floyd rose special, not sure if that makes a difference. its a used guitar aswell, just got it a few days ago. also, if i tune it to D standard (what i typically play in) would it be easier to push down? Please let me know as soon as possible, im kinda new to floating trems.
@sk8dude88888888 Standard tuning on a floyd should be used with 9-46's (or 42's depending on your preference) and it shouldn't require many springs. Also, just practice pushing down on your whammy bar.
@viperabs hey uh i just purchased a guitar with a floyd rose. It is the Alexi-200 ESP LTD. I use standard C tuning and i was wondering how many springs I should use in the back. The string size i use is 10.-46.So i came to ask you. Please respond by Thursday at 10 A.m.
So heres my problem I just took my Randy Rhoads in and hate the entire bridge that i messed up trying to restring it reset and then i tried to tune down to e flat tuning and my bridge sunk in a little now when i tune back up to E standard its not sitting flush and i want an expert opinion before i mess with it again
think god someone finally has something about standard c tuning on here i'm gettign a dkmg in 2 days and i was worried about trying to get it into c standard but know i know what needs to happen
1. the 3 tremolo lock screws (the ones next to the headstock) need to be unscrewed when unscrewing the springs (or screwing in the springs), right? Essentially, what you're trying to do is go back & forth from adjusting the tuning knobs to subtle screw in/or out of the spring screws, right?
2. What are those 2 screws on the actual tremolo system for? (the ones next to the back pickup) do you ever use those for adjusting or not?
thanks 4 this! i always wanted to know how to do this!
@BDrummen The nut locks (the 3 next to headstock) should be unscrewed since you don't want to unlock them later and your bridge to go unbalanced. The fine tuners on the bridge are to be used after you are locked down. The 2 screws next to the back pickup are the height adjustment, similar to the screw on either side of a tune-o-matic, but you dont' want them to be different heights on a Floyd since it will wear the knife edge more quickly.
My bridge is pretty high because i upgraded to 11s to experiment on. I have a fender strat with 3 springs but i cant seem to further tighten the screws for the bridge. Is there a way or do i need more springs or lesser gauge strings?
Okay I have an ibanez gio with a Floyd Rose and it is recessed. I would like to at least play with Earnie Ball power slinky which are 11-48. How would I go about using strings that thick? Before when I tried the bridge rose out of the body. What do I do?
lol... and I was going to send my guitar to the repair shop after tuning from standard to drop C and noticing that my bridge was "oddly" unbalanced... Im such a n00b XD
im having the same problems AS illeagle that one side of the tremolo is kinda sunken down idk if i should adjust the springs in the back or the two that are on top of the tremolo
If my bridge on my EVH doesn't have the cavity behind the bridge, can I still float the tremolo. It seems like floating it would raise the strings up off the fret board.:(
i have an ibanez with an edge pro trem, and whenever i drop or raise the bar, i hear a quiet shifting noise in the neck and then my whole guitar goes out of tune. :( help?
I have an ibanez rg5ex1 with the edge 3 tremolo. I put heavier strings on (.11-.54) and i got everything setup and tuned and locked in. but when i use the whammy bar when it goes way out of tune and ive stretched my strings and this mostly happens going down on the whammy bar. any tips?
Hi. I' ve just noticed that one side of my tremolo is kinda sunken down.
I have an Ibanez 350 dx. Edge III Tremolo. Ummm.. The right screw in front of the whammy bar is lower than the screw on the left bar... But I'm not sure whether I should unscrew the left, or tighten the right one... O_o' Any tips?
@guitarshredder47 Yes, the Strats do have a floating bridge, but you don't really have to "float" them since they sit against the body in the zero position in most cases.
've just changed the gauge of strings to 12 gauge because I've started playing down tuned (drop c). As a consequence, the bridge is sitting up by about a quarter of an inch. What should I do? I know I've got to tighten the tremolo strings, but won't I risk royally messing my guitar up somehow if the tension is too tight? I'm afraid I might snap the neck or some shit!
would you say intonating and adjusting the bridge on a Floyd Rose and a ZR tremelo (minus the adjusting knob on the ZR tremelo) are basically the same?
i have a problem to cause if i strum the first fret it would sound like a sitar sound and i dont like. problebly have to adjust the bridge hey man so i can play my favorite music like metallica. ya my guitar is fucked up not tuned at all its so fucking dumb i bet it will never get tune it will take forever man. and i want to play guitar so fucking bad man. music is my thing man its wat i do man. i want the guitar to be tuned always man. can you help me dude its a biggest problem ever in my live.
okay dude i have a serious trem problem. On my ibanez rg i have an edge 3 that just will not stay in tune at all. i have the locking nuts locked down, and it still doesn't work. It seems to only stay in tune going in one direction, up or down. For some reason it won't do both. please help!
@airheadoo That's a typical problem for tremolos after you've used them a good bit. Heavier strings will cause more wear on the knife edge, and thus it won't be able to come back to it's zero position. The same wear can happen over time if you use it alot.
@TheHungryShredder1 The best guitars from Schecter that I've played all come from the ATX series. I've owned or played one of every schecter out there. I currently own a hellraiser and an ATX as well as both of my roommates have different ATX models.
dude, thanks thanks thanks. I haven't worked with my tremelo for the last half year cause i didn't know how to balance it. Now i can play all the freaky pantera stuff with the sqeals that dimebag always did, thanks thanks thanks
So umm say I was in Standard E tuning and I want to tune down to Drop C. I should detune my strings first then adjust the springs, leveling my bridge/tremolo, and then after that intonate or whatever that word is?
Was my first floyd rose floating bridge guitar... Tuning that is way different from doing a regular guitar. plus you gotta adjust the springs just right if you're doing alternate tuning and every time you tune it moves the bridge and putting the other strings outta tune... took me like 3-4 hours but i finally got it. Ain't no one touching that guitar now >:[
Is it possible that my springs are too short? What i mean is that they are really hard, and the tremolo is not working as smoothly as yours, i must realy press hard on it.
@Zodiak13 Springs can't be "too short" but they can be stretched to where they are very tight. If you use super heavy strings, then you will have to have the springs very heavy. Tremolos do not lend themselves to heavy strings very well. It ruins the action and playability of it.
hi armand what i mean by not sounding correctly is that you have to press hard on the 1st fret in order to sound the f note it's like a real bad case of fret buzz.the string in question is the thinnest one looking forward to your reply
@mrwylde10 Oh thats no good. It can either be a problem with the truss rod, the bridge's height, or even the fret itself. That, you will have to diagnose yourself though.
my guitar keeps going out of tune no matter how hard i try to tune it. it has a tremelo and stuff. not really familiar with these things, but how do i make it to standard tuning without it going flatter or sharper.
ive got a question too. i wanna drop d my tuning. how do i do it? i tried unscrewing the screws at the neck then tune then down 2 steps and screw it back. will that work?
soon im gonna be getting an ibanez rg350dx and i heard about this floating bridge thing. what if i just want to tune only one string like from standard to drop D. Is there anything i have to do at the back or can i just unlock the thingies at the nut and then tune that on string and put it back.
@LaharlxAxel It's not exactly going to be that easy. If you change one string, they will all change pitch. You're better off just leaving that guitar with a tremolo in one tuning.
Hi man, I have payed someone to change my strings and adjust the bridge a lot of times, now I want to do it myself because i know its easy and I can´t pay the guy anymore, So I have just to tigth the screws with the springs right? thk
@EagleEyeAEG You've got it, just screw the screw joints in. Just make sure you screw them in the same amount of turns so it doesn't make the bridge un-even.
Hi man, very good your video but still I have a question, I don't want to mess with my bridge without knowing what I'm doing. I change my strings and now the bridge is up, I have to tight a little bit the screws holding the springs for the bridge returns to its normal position right? And if the opposite, that the bridge is sunk, I have to loosen the screws holding the springs for the bridge to come up? Please answer!
@deanrockerr1994 well you have a floating bridge and when you tune one string it changes the tension on the bridge so other strings get out of tune just keep tuning each string over and over again eventually they will all be in tune.
Hey man, ive just drop tuned my new Jackson Dinky DK2S to drop C. I followed everything from your vids. But i'm just wondering, the strings that came with the guitar are pretty light, and i think im getting a bit of fret buzz because of them. I usually go for the slinky top/ heavy bottom strings. Is there anything i can do to eliminate the fret buzz or do you just think throw on a new set of strings? Cheers
@129jasaxos Ah, gotcha. Well if they are slanted and rotate crooked, that means they were put in carelessly. If they are slanted and you can't tighten them after a certain point, then they were put in just crooked. Either way, I'd say its not a good thing unless it doesn't affect you when you adjust it.
@viperabs hey, my strings are high, and i want to lower them, i was wondering, do i have to lower the pivot joint deeper into the body? Would I tighten the screws like with the humbuckers? or is it done other way?
Hey here's the deal. It's the second time I've tried to restring my Jackson now, and the second time I've failed. 1st time I took all the strings off and had to get it fixed at the guitar shop. Now I ordered some new strings and they were the wrong gauge and because there is more tension this has caused the bridge to raise from the body. If I buy the correct string gauge and resting again will it go back or will I have to float it again? Thanks
heyy good video but i tried to tune my guitar from drop d to drop c and some of the strings are at the right tension where as others are like super loose and i dont get it!
hi, nice video :) i see on some other videos you have a string-thru schecter and also you have this schecter hellraiser c-1 with a floyd rose.. is there much difference in tone between the two in tone? because some people say that because obviously the floyd rose is sacrificing a lot of the wood, the tone is affected.. :S
@orlandosoplon77 Well tone is achieved through the amount of contact area between sections of the guitar. If you want alot of tone, add more body to the guitar and have the strings contact the body as much as possible. Also, take materials that conduct sound best, which wood is an excellent material. The floyd minimizes the contact of the strings to the wood because of the knife edge, but its at the benefit of having the whammy bar!
hey man, nice video. You know, I got a flordy rose, its not original, but, I floated it. The bridge is totally pararell with the body. But, when I use, its not coming back to the same spot, so, what I mean is, if i use my bridge it unfloats, thus untunning my guitar. Do have any idea what that could be?
@Julionp Unfortunately, if its a licensed model, it can be made out of cheaper materials and wear our quicker. Over time, the knife edge on the bridge can wear down and your bridge will not come back to the zero position.
i have a problem with my tremolo. when i pull the tremolo away from the body (for a whammy) one of my strings will click. i have no clue what is going on.
@otofcontroll See the stringing a floyd rose video, make sure you have all that done correctly, then if that doesn't fix the problem you might just have a worn out knife edge on your bridge.
i have a yamaha guitar and i have the same bridge as yours. Also i have only 2 sprins on it. Is it necessary to buy another one? What dies floyd Rose mean? I realy need help to get my guitar in tune. thanks man
@Pudekz51790 Oh, well provided it has the same design of strings on one side and springs on the other, the concept works. Some tremolos don't have screws to tighten your springs, but have other methods of increasing tension. Adapt the video to your own tremolo.
@jmanbgg If you call the company they will most likely send you one for free. Your local guitar store will charge you probably a few bucks for one if need be.
ok i have a question. im looking to buy an ibanez with a whammy bar. i went to my local guitar shop and i wanted to buy a certain one, i asked questions blah blah but then he said that you couldnt change tuning. i was like shattered when he said this:P, but i turned the tuning knobs and it seems to tune fine? i then asked again and he said all this stuff that i didnt understand..... HELP!
if you screw the back screws out does the bridge tilt up or down? my floyd rose is slightly unbalanced by around 1/4 of an inch pivoted upwards (im in standard EADGBe)
The reason i ask if screwing out tilts the bridge upwards is because in my minds eye i think of screwing in being what would pull the bridge down sinking it into the body. thanks for any help in advance, and very nice video. very clear, accurate, and understandable.

Thanks for the video.

would you say intonating and adjusting the bridge on a Floyd Rose and a ZR tremelo (minus the adjusting knob on the ZR tremelo) are basically the same?

my bridge is a floyd rose!
help me please!!
warofzero 1 year ago
okay dude i have a serious trem problem. On my ibanez rg i have an edge 3 that just will not stay in tune at all. i have the locking nuts locked down, and it still doesn't work. It seems to only stay in tune going in one direction, up or down. For some reason it won't do both. please help!
airheadoo 1 year ago
@airheadoo That's a typical problem for tremolos after you've used them a good bit. Heavier strings will cause more wear on the knife edge, and thus it won't be able to come back to it's zero position. The same wear can happen over time if you use it alot.
viperabs 1 year ago
@viperabs so just get a different knife plate and that should do it?
airheadoo 1 year ago
@airheadoo If the problem is what I say, then yes it will fix it.
viperabs 1 year ago
@viperabs okay that will seem to work becuz i use an ibanez s470 with lo trs i just got and it's pretty sharp thank you so much!

How do I balance the bridge when using light top / heavy bottom strings? Whenever I tune the heavy ones up the light ones tunes down and vice verse.
fraternica 1 year ago
dude, is that the schecter hellraiser c-1 ? if it is, can you tell me how well it plays ?
TheHungryShredder1 1 year ago
@TheHungryShredder1 Yes it is, but for the same price you can get the ATX series by Schecter which is far better.
viperabs 1 year ago
@viperabs I thought the hellraiser was the best from schecter? do you own a guitar from the ATX series ?
TheHungryShredder1 1 year ago
@TheHungryShredder1 The best guitars from Schecter that I've played all come from the ATX series. I've owned or played one of every schecter out there. I currently own a hellraiser and an ATX as well as both of my roommates have different ATX models.
viperabs 1 year ago
dude, thanks thanks thanks.

Kardflow 1 year ago
@Kardflow You intonate in the tuning you want to be intonated in. So yes, tune to Drop C, then intonate.
viperabs 1 year ago
@viperabs
Kewl. Thx
Kardflow 1 year ago
@viperabs
Ain't no one touching that guitar now >:[
Kardflow 1 year ago
Wow at 2:40... We'll call that an open fracture =p

how many strings do you need for 10 gauge?
block99h5 1 year ago
@block99h5 you mean springs right? Most likely 3 springs for 10s.
metallica5252 1 year ago
@metallica5252
yer springs sorry
thanks
block99h5 1 year ago
@ Armand
Is it possible that my springs are too short? What i mean is that they are really hard, and the tremolo is not working as smoothly as yours, i must realy press hard on it.
Zodiak13 1 year ago
@Zodiak13 Springs can't be "too short" but they can be stretched to where they are very tight. If you use super heavy strings, then you will have to have the springs very heavy. Tremolos do not lend themselves to heavy strings very well. It ruins the action and playability of it.
viperabs 1 year ago
hi armand what i mean by not sounding correctly is that you have to press hard on the 1st fret in order to sound the f note it's like a real bad case of fret buzz.the string in question is the thinnest one looking forward to your reply
mrwylde10 1 year ago
@mrwylde10 Oh thats no good. It can either be a problem with the truss rod, the bridge's height, or even the fret itself. That, you will have to diagnose yourself though.
viperabs 1 year ago
hi armand just had my floyd rose set up but i have a fret that is not sounding correctly it is the 1st fret 1st string what can i do to rectifi this
mrwylde10 1 year ago
@mrwylde10 Be more specific, how is it "not sounding correctly?" Also, which string do you consider the "first" string?

hey Armand, could you tell me how long the screws at the back are? cause seriously, im so afraid of stripping them off when i wanna tune down.
JustVideosss 1 year ago
@JustVideosss It varies from manufacturer sometimes, but most times 2".
viperabs 1 year ago
my guitar keeps going out of tune no matter how hard i try to tune it. it has a tremelo and stuff. not really familiar with these things, but how do i make it to standard tuning without it going flatter or sharper.
JustVideosss 1 year ago
ive got a question too. i wanna drop d my tuning. how do i do it? i tried unscrewing the screws at the neck then tune then down 2 steps and screw it back. will that work?
JustVideosss 1 year ago
K i have a question
soon im gonna be getting an ibanez rg350dx and i heard about this floating bridge thing. what if i just want to tune only one string like from standard to drop D. Is there anything i have to do at the back or can i just unlock the thingies at the nut and then tune that on string and put it back.
LaharlxAxel 1 year ago
@LaharlxAxel It's not exactly going to be that easy. If you change one string, they will all change pitch. You're better off just leaving that guitar with a tremolo in one tuning.
viperabs 1 year ago
@viperabs K thanks
LaharlxAxel 1 year ago
Hi man, I have payed someone to change my strings and adjust the bridge a lot of times, now I want to do it myself because i know its easy and I can´t pay the guy anymore, So I have just to tigth the screws with the springs right? thk
EagleEyeAEG 1 year ago
@EagleEyeAEG You've got it, just screw the screw joints in. Just make sure you screw them in the same amount of turns so it doesn't make the bridge un-even.
viperabs 1 year ago
Hi man, very good your video but still I have a question, I don't want to mess with my bridge without knowing what I'm doing. I change my strings and now the bridge is up, I have to tight a little bit the screws holding the springs for the bridge returns to its normal position right? And if the opposite, that the bridge is sunk, I have to loosen the screws holding the springs for the bridge to come up? Please answer!
EagleEyeAEG 1 year ago
@EagleEyeAEG If after watching the video you don't want to touch your bridge still, just pay somebody else to do it.
viperabs 1 year ago
haha oh my god dude thank you so much. I thought I was completly screwed and my bridge was going to break off haha.
JacksonV22 1 year ago
on my dean ML, i am able to make it float. but when i adjust the fine tuners, all the previously tuned string become out of tune again. any advice?
deanrockerr1994 1 year ago
@deanrockerr1994 well you have a floating bridge and when you tune one string it changes the tension on the bridge so other strings get out of tune just keep tuning each string over and over again eventually they will all be in tune.
hope this helps

hey man I had some semi big prblems with my floyd and have no way to video msg
samtoaster 1 year ago
Hey man, ive just drop tuned my new Jackson Dinky DK2S to drop C. I followed everything from your vids. But i'm just wondering, the strings that came with the guitar are pretty light, and i think im getting a bit of fret buzz because of them. I usually go for the slinky top/ heavy bottom strings. Is there anything i can do to eliminate the fret buzz or do you just think throw on a new set of strings? Cheers
Mivdawg 1 year ago
@Mivdawg Lighter strings will be flopper, so they'll tend to cause more fret buzz. If it bothers you enough just put heavier strings.
viperabs 1 year ago
I have a reg tremelo (not a Floyd rose type ) and my screws are slanted is that normal?
129jasaxos 1 year ago
@129jasaxos You'll have to be more specific. There are many screws in the construction of a guitar.
viperabs 1 year ago
Y@viperabs the ones that hold the plate tht holds the springs... I have my guitar in standard and the bridge is really high out
129jasaxos 1 year ago
@129jasaxos Ah, gotcha. Well if they are slanted and rotate crooked, that means they were put in carelessly. If they are slanted and you can't tighten them after a certain point, then they were put in just crooked. Either way, I'd say its not a good thing unless it doesn't affect you when you adjust it.
viperabs 1 year ago
@viperabs I tryied twisting them but they slant and I don't want to break it but when I did nohig happened to the bridge it stayed very high out
129jasaxos 1 year ago
@viperabs hey, my strings are high, and i want to lower them, i was wondering, do i have to lower the pivot joint deeper into the body? Would I tighten the screws like with the humbuckers? or is it done other way?

hatsumomo535353 1 year ago
Hey here's the deal. It's the second time I've tried to restring my Jackson now, and the second time I've failed. 1st time I took all the strings off and had to get it fixed at the guitar shop. Now I ordered some new strings and they were the wrong gauge and because there is more tension this has caused the bridge to raise from the body. If I buy the correct string gauge and resting again will it go back or will I have to float it again? Thanks

dude this has helped soooo much dude !!! thanks man

rottingmeat3000 1 year ago
hi, nice video :) i see on some other videos you have a string-thru schecter and also you have this schecter hellraiser c-1 with a floyd rose.. is there much difference in tone between the two in tone? because some people say that because obviously the floyd rose is sacrificing a lot of the wood, the tone is affected.. :S
thank you
orlandosoplon77 1 year ago
@orlandosoplon77 Well tone is achieved through the amount of contact area between sections of the guitar. If you want alot of tone, add more body to the guitar and have the strings contact the body as much as possible. Also, take materials that conduct sound best, which wood is an excellent material. The floyd minimizes the contact of the strings to the wood because of the knife edge, but its at the benefit of having the whammy bar!
viperabs 1 year ago
hey man, nice video. You know, I got a flordy rose, its not original, but, I floated it. The bridge is totally pararell with the body. But, when I use, its not coming back to the same spot, so, what I mean is, if i use my bridge it unfloats, thus untunning my guitar. Do have any idea what that could be?
Julionp 1 year ago
@Julionp Unfortunately, if its a licensed model, it can be made out of cheaper materials and wear our quicker. Over time, the knife edge on the bridge can wear down and your bridge will not come back to the zero position.

i have a problem with my tremolo. when i pull the tremolo away from the body (for a whammy) one of my strings will click. i have no clue what is going on.
otofcontroll 1 year ago
@otofcontroll Not a problem, its just your strings bottoming out.
viperabs 1 year ago
is there any way to stop it because it happens every time i use whammy and its been going on for the past 3 days.
otofcontroll 1 year ago
@otofcontroll See the stringing a floyd rose video, make sure you have all that done correctly, then if that doesn't fix the problem you might just have a worn out knife edge on your bridge.
viperabs 1 year ago
i have a yamaha guitar and i have the same bridge as yours. Also i have only 2 sprins on it. Is it necessary to buy another one? What dies floyd Rose mean? I realy need help to get my guitar in tune. thanks man
Pudekz51790 1 year ago
@Pudekz51790 Oh, well provided it has the same design of strings on one side and springs on the other, the concept works. Some tremolos don't have screws to tighten your springs, but have other methods of increasing tension. Adapt the video to your own tremolo.
viperabs 1 year ago
is it the same concept for drop tuning 7 string floyd rose trems
ss26macks 1 year ago
@ss26macks If its a floyd, this concept applies.

is it better to remove the spring so that there would be no problem? :)))
