Today it's 25 years since I saw them live in Stockholm. Goddamn how good they were! And goddamn how confused the bon jovi (who they were supporting) audience were. "Neue regel" is maybe a little more complex than "you give love a bad name"?
Great music, lyrics and melodies. It´s ahead for it´s time. This song talks about love, relationships, difficulties in daily life. I like to undertsnad this way because is really deep the message behind the vocals.
Tates' vocals and DeGarmos' understanding of symphonic orchestral music stand alone. Operation Mindcrime was the first operatic metal. Tate sings with such passion and emotion. Pink Floyd, Rush, and Dream Theater pail in comparison.
Well - you know how some artists have that signature song, where just EVERYTHING comes together to form a masterpiece? G&R = Welcome to the Jungle. Creedence - Proud Mary. Aerosmith - Dream on. All the elements that make up those bands were on display to create their masterpieces.
Queensryche?
Every friggin song is their masterpiece. Every one.
@strido527 I couldn't agree more. Degarmo was/is a musical genius. Every member added something that collectively was irreplaceable. True artists that made every song everything that it could be. Ever any doubt just go back and listen to each instrument. Especially the guitar parts with all the arpeggio chord voicings and layered harmonies, complemented by subtle but complex bass lines. And Geoff Tate? Need I say more? I still listen to the new stuff, but it's not the same without Chris.
I agree with all of U guys writing here. My friends dont like this album at all. Its to complicated for them. But I love all stuff of this record. Its just brillant.
Brilliant doesen't evan begin to describe this band. Most of this band was far, far beyond world class musicianship - and Tate and DeGarmo? Oh, my God -- TOTAL musical GENIOUSES!!! This is BY FAR my favorite band, and Geoff Tate was probobally my single greatest inspiration to get into music!!
This is talent. This is depth at a time when the likes of "Talk dirty to me" were at the top of the charts. These guys surpassed such drivel and made music that captivated and enthralled me.Queensryche was the band that first inspired me to pick up the bass as the music was full of passion .I wanted to have that passion. These guys are bad ass. After Mindcrime my taste developed into a different direction but I will forever be in Awe of Queensryches early and epic feats.Brilliant band
This album was way, WAY ahead of its time. I was blown away as a teenager when it came out and I'm still blown away by the music. The Warning was great but so much different...straight hard rock. This one is great with a totally different feel...kind of new-wavish. What band would have the hairy balls to try this back-to-back tandem today? NOBODY, that's who. This version of Queensryche would cut your grandma's neck and never wince. Later Queensryche did not fare so well.
I just got "into" QR about 11 years ago, and to this day, I still keep finding a "favorite" song by them. It's just too hard to pick just one. Ryche On!
7/4. Yup, that shit kills.
