For my part, I think this hypothesis is absurd. Is TK even a sociopath? Are most suicide bombers sociopaths? More likely they are alienated utilitarians who have come to the conclusion that their acts of violence are justified by the alleged net-gain they yield to society. Alienated, and angry but not sociopathic. Of course, these traits could reside in a single individual but presumably that is very rare--accounting for less than .01 of the population: the percentage of sociopaths in the U.S.

Finally, at least for the EAR-ONS, the timeline doesn't support the hypothesis. This unsub's criminal activity began as early as 1974 in a city nearly 300 miles south Berkeley, where TK was already an associate professor.EAR-ONS' spree persisted at intervals from 1974-1986, as far as we know. TK moved to Montana in 1971. The timeline tells against the hypothesis.

True he "lived" in Montana starting in 1971, but he managed to be the Unabomber, who did frequent bombings and mailings in San Francisco, Utah, Washington and Chicago. There are no major timeline problems and both Zodiac and EAR/ONS investigators are seeking DNA and other evidence from Kaczynski. He COULD be the EAR/ONS, but there are other isssues and he may not be. I am very confident he was Zodiac and Tylenol killer.

Doesn't the burden of proof rest on the alternative hypothesis that TK=ONS? Maybe the hypothesis is not precluded by time-line but is there any reason to suppose the identity of these individuals beyond the fact that both exhibited a degree of intelligence and tactical sophistication rare among offenders--even serial offenders? ONS had no apparent ideological rationale for his offenses; TK propounded an elaborate rationale that was ultimately his undoing.

I own that there is some resemblance between the composite renderings of suspicious persons thought to be the EAR-ONS and TK but the reliability of these composites is highly suspect. Finally, is there any evidence to support the hypothesis that TK engaged in so-called paraphilic behavior? Is there any evidence to support the claim that TK engaged in BDSM, had a preoccupation with bondage or a history of sexual abuse?

To say that 'the burden of proof rests on the alternative hypothesis is to say that these need to be demonstrated or strongly suggested by circumstantial evidence in order that the hypothesis has surface plausibility (has any traction at all). Having said all that, it would be a great relief to learn that ONS is safely incarcerated. I hope, in spite of many many misgivings, that you are correct.

@bon1931 He was bound to a bed for a week in a hospital which his mother said caused a huge change in him. he said he suffered from "acute sexual starvation" and had fantasies of ebing a woman. A failed sex chane bid in 1966 led to him saying in his diary he was now ready to "really kill" all he hated, including love making couples, a frequent target of Zodiac and EAR/ONS.

@bon1931 Composite sketches are not perfect but they are what we have. TK does have a startling similarity to the Zodiac and EAR/OSN sketches. And TK looks like the bearded man who was a Tylenol Murders suspect, the man seen on the security camera footage apparently watching Paula Prince buy the tainted Tylenol that would kill her. I don't know if Ted was the Zodiac or Tylenol Killer, I have tried to gather evidence to rule him in or out it is up to police and FBI now.

Several federal laws require a DNA draw and inclusion in CODIS but it has not happened yet, and when the FBI acted on my information and asked him to volunteer a DNA sample in the Tylenol casde he refused. ABC News reported the FBI would seek a court order, and that is the last the public knows. Where is stands know I don't know. The FBI should act.

@akwilks you're basing it on the assumption that TK is the tylenol killer. Kaczynski also feared for his life, whereas Zodiac enjoyed taunting the police. Zodiac also personally killed his victims, whereas Kaczynski bombed people. Ted was also very amateur at first, whereas Zodiac was very effective from the beginning.  Kaczynski didn't want the people he hated to live, while Zodiac wanted slaves for the afterlife. Furthermore, Ted said he never had cyanide: why would he deny it?

@akwilks Furthermore, it is almost certain Kaczynski left California before Zodiac sent his first letter. If he was Zodiac, Ted would also be acting out of character, as he hated braggarts and big shots, two defining characteristics of Zodiac. Anyway, why would Ted keep quiet during his trial? He would have admitted the Tylenol and Zodiac cases in further exchange for his life. Also, TK only possessed explosives and a pistol at the time of his arrest: where was the cyanide, jack?

i just dont think ted was the zodiac..the zodiac murders where all very personal, stabbing, shooting. there are alot of strange ties, but i dont think they are the same person. Unless the zodiac got bored with his method and started to do what ted was doing. Now the tylenol murders and ted makes alot more sense

@Stillwater900 See zodiackillerfacts for the real story on Gaikowski. Not a shred of evidence to show he was Zodiac. I don't put much stock in a "voice ID". In particular when newspaper articles and witnesses place Gaikowski in NY when Bates was killed and Zodiac wrote letters about it. And letters place Gaikowski in Europe when Faraday/Jensen were killed. Gaikowski has no criminal record and was a gay man, not a serial killer of couples and women.

They are now seeking a court order to get the DNA of Ted Kaczynski in the Tylenol Murders case. Once they do a DNA draw on him, his DNA can also be compared to the possible suspect DNA in the case of the Zodiac Killer. Things are moving!

@AweSomo84 Nothing new to report. The FBI asked Ted Kaczynski to give DNA in the Tylenol case, and he refused. That is where it stands, until someone in the federal government does something about it. The law requires Ted to give DNA, but he doesn't want to. I asked his brother David to give DNA to include or exclude Ted in the Zodiac and Tylenol cases and he refused, saying he does not want to chance exposing his brother to the death penalty, which I understand.

ear/ons and the unabomber were completely different types of killers with different Mo's, different motivation etc. One was hands on, the other killed from a distance. Also, Ear/Ons did NOT stop his assaults after the composite was released, he just left sacramento. He went on to committ more rapes and at least 10 murders. Please stop spreading misinformation on this case, it makes it hard for others to gather factual evidence in order to solve this case.

@toodance Every so often someone brings up the fact that they have heard that Kaczynski has been "cleared" of the Zodiac crimes. Nobody can produce a quote from the SFPD or FBI officially "clearing" him. First of all, we should remember that Gary Ridgway was officially cleared of being the Green River Killer...years before DNA proved he WAS the Green River Killer!

Police and the FBI are not infalliable.

At 1.16, you can see a definate match in the pictures. The original night stalker stopped raping when a picture was released of him, probably because of an undeniable match. One main thing you notice on the drawing at 1.16 is the eyebrow on the right going downwards at the end. Kaczynski's eyebrow where on the picture it goes down has clearly been shaven off. Was this to make a distinctive similarity in the drawing disappear between Kaczynski and EAR ONS?

@Hordified I am saying evidence shows Kaczynski probably was the Zodiac, killing people from 1968 to 1970, and we know he was the Unabomber, killing people from 1985 to 1996. And IF he was the Zodiac, he should be looked at as a suspect for crimes between 1970 and 1985, such as Tyelnol (1982) and the original night stalker (1979 - 1986).

Ted first records a desire to kill in 1966, not for any cause, but because of anger over a failed sex change plan and self described "acute sexual starvation." He records being driven mad by the sound of "couples" in his building making love. He writes of his desire to kill "police", "couples" and "promiscuous women" he regards as "pigs", "animals".

The first picture is of Ted K when he was "Very Young", that is why I call it "Picture of Ted K When He Was Very Young". My guess would 11 to 13? The second picture of Ted K that I compare with SANDY is from when Ted K was at Harvard, so he would have been somewhere between 16 and 20.

And in any event, the second picture is from Ted at Harvard, he is 16 to 20 in that picture, and the sketch is likely a 17 to 20 year old. The amazing thing is TK looks like SANDY, Zodiac and Aardsma suspect. Perhaps all a coincidence. Combined with the other evidence - timeline, MO, psych, etc., it may be important.

Then with more evidence I was able to break through and get a key group of law enforcement investigators interested, and they started doing things, including making requests to get the DNA of TK. And they have done and are doing some other things. But there is also the reality of new cases, limited budgets and federal resistance. So I don't know what the ultimate outcome will be.

EAR is believed to have had some type of military and or police background.Did Ted K have any?

@GV889 Ted did not serve in the military. But he was an expert outdoorsman, survivalist and hunter. He could tie complex knots, navigate over rough terrain, was good with escape and evasion and was an excellent hunter and firearms shot. I think he meets all the skills of EAR/ONS, and also like the EAR owned or drove an early 50's pick up truck, a white Pontiac and a VW.

It's people like you, however, who are able to notice things such as this that could eventually lead to the individuals responsible in these cases and other unsolveds.

@teknoslag @teknoslag Actually Kaczynski has never had DNA drawn from his body, so DNA has NOT excluded him from being Zodiac. And it is not even clear that the DNA recovered from some Zodiac letters is really from the killer. Ted has no conflicts with any of the EAR rapes that produced DNA or any of the ONS murders. Investigators are seeking his DNA and other evidence for both the Zodiac and EAR/ONS cases.

It would be easy to check Teds DNA against any other because his brother is willing to help law enforcement how ever he can, that's how Ted was caught. If he wanted to prove or disprove any alligations toward Ted, all he has to do is submit his own DNA. Called Familia DNA testing or something..

Interesting point. But consider that the Zodiac  apepars to have:

1. Killed couples

2. Killed a male cab driver

3. Made sniper and bomb threats

4. Probably killed lone females like Bates and Lass

5. Used knifes and guns

6. Possibly used poison to kill Caroline Davis in Sonoma County

And Kaczynski did:

1. Mail bombs

2. Left bombs in public places

3. Put a bomb on an aircraft

4. Shot a miner with a rifle

5. Built a handgun and intended to use it for "homicide"

6. Did arson

7. Did saboatge, burglary, trashed cabins, peeped on couples

If the Zodiac - be he an UNSUB or as I think more likely Ted Kaczynski - did go on to do some of these other crimes, he probably intentionally changed his location, victims, weapons and MO to evade detection. And, so far, it has worked.

The initial investigation in 1996 was flimsy and based on incomplete info. It turns out Ted K has never even had DNA drawn from his body. The investigation into Ted K as the Zodiac has been renewed and is ongoing.
