  • I'm 17, so I was born in the '90's. However, I would much rather have been 17 during this era

  • Dylan at his best!!

  • I've been trying to find this out for awhile, but what kind of guitar is he playing there? It's obviously pretty rare... but what model and stuff... or is it a custom?

  • @DepthWave National Glenwood guitar shaped to a map of USA. Pretty cool.

  • FUCKING AWESOME!

  • the fuckin master

  • My only complaint is that the image is about 1/10th the quality that was available from this same provider ten years ago.

    I suppose in the minds of some sick minded f // u // c // k // s, that's a huge problem.

    F x x k y x x y x x t x x x b e.

  • love love LOVE this <3 Bob Dylan is Legend!

  • This was during his self-hating muslim days...

  • Can any guitarists show how to play this version please...?

  • @younwhosarmy

Capo on the 3rd fret. Standard tuning. It's all G and C chords.

  • i love his playing hear and the singing the way he looked at that time and everything... its definetely my favorite version he does of this song

  • The lyrics don't really go with the music, that the only problem with this version. It kicks some serious ass

  • @brandinator22 it gos perrfect

  • got my signals crossed.

  • Back when the term "artist" had relevance in the music industry....

  • look how tuned in he is to the sound and spirit of the song. He's putting it out there, knowing what he is about. It's like he is rising above all the dross and garbage passed off as popular music but he does it with humility and honesty. He knows he has nothing to prove cos he is the master singer/songwriter/performer. "propaganda, all is phoney" as he once wrote.

  • the voice is great too. not studio or pretentious shit

  • Comment removed

  • I love Dylan's music. He and Dwight Yoakam are two of my favorites. I have seen both of them in concert - pure magic.

  • This is May 23, 1976, at Hughes Stadium in Ft. Collins, CO. Towards the end of the Rolling Thunder Review. An hours worth of the concert was broadcast on NBC that September. Parts were also released as the Hard Rain album that same month. I'm lucky enough to have a bootleg dvd copy of the tv broadcast. This is my favorite version of SFTS.

  • stomping version, some details of where and when would be nice

  • I was in another lifetime one of toil and blood When blackness was a virtue and the road was full of mud I came in from the wilderness a creature void of form "Come in" she said "I'll give you shelter from the storm". And if I pass this way again you can rest assured I'll always do my best for her on that I give my word In a world of steel-eyed death and men who are fighting to be warm "Come in" she said "I'll give you shelter from the storm".

Love it - who wrote the lyrics?

  • @Simplysoulman I"m pretty sure Bob Dylan wrote the lyrics. He's got a knack for that kind of thing.

  • @Simplysoulman

Dylan goes on to write his most haunting lyric in this song. "If I could turn back the clock to the day God and her were born, Come in she said I'll give ya, Shelter from the Storm." Even though Dylan was part of a generation tuned into comprehensive deception, he like most fell victim. Number one rule of War is know thy enemy. The Master of Deception does not deal in half assed lies, he deals in grand illusions, Evil Illusions.

  • @waketheoblivious you think too much

  • @bwelc00

Partial list of diabolical "missing link" frauds, Satanists posing as scientists:

1913-53 Piltdown Man HOAX, Manufactured Planted Evidence

    Nebraska Man, Discarded Pigs Tooth

Peking Man, Conglomeration of Co-Mingled Fossils

    Lucy, Manipulated Fossil Using Plaster

Orce Man, 4 Month Old Donkey Bone

    2009 Ida, Grossly Unsupportable Classification

2010 Sebida, equivelant of a deceased PetsMart Gerbil

*Evolution, science of a preponderance of bullshit in lieu of irrefutable evidence

  • @waketheoblivious See comment one

  • @bwelc00

Dylan is one of the most honest and brilliant musicians, singers, songwriters, poets, author, philosopher, parent and inspiration to every step on stage. He is a very wealthy man, yet was forced to return to the limelight and do Victoria Secret Commercials. Haunted by the sins of the past and the "deal" he had made. Bob Dylan, became Christian and knew one of the happiest periods of His life. Bob Dylan, is someone I have always admired for his music and as an honorable man.

  • @waketheoblivious My sentiments exactly ,on fucking point!

  • @Simplysoulman lol bob dylan did are you fucking tripping

  • A young tech asked me the other day how my generation could get into Bob Dylan. I didn't really have an answer to that but I did remind him that most of us were stoned back then. This is one cool song

  • @sevenfingers2001 So you're saying everybody must get stoned?

  • @sevenfingers2001 Don't worry man. I'm 20 and a huge Dylan fan. Got the whole discography.

  • great band

  • One of my favorite songs ever and this performance just verified that for me.

  • Try singing this song to the tune of the "Beverly Hillbillies" theme

  • that guitar is so ugly, it's cool.. : )

  • thanks Bob

  • I love this song and in this video Bob is so sexy!

  • how could u dislike this ! it's the poetry on guitar

  • so fucking good!

  • I offered up my innocence. Got repayed with scorn. Awesome

  • wygląda jak Roland Pieczkowski ;)

  • Dylan's most haunting lyric, "I wish I could turn back the clock to the day when God and her were born" come in she said I'll give ya, Shelter from the Storm". Even with eyes wide open became a victim of the Master of Deception. Neither God not Satan exist, the greatest illusion ever imposed on humanity.

  • @waketheoblivious ya know what's even more boring that a self-righteous religous nut? , is a preachy pompous know-it-all atheist.

  • bob banging on electric , awsome

  • crackin that shit bob, my favorite era of dylan, desrie is the best album by this guy! just kiddin

  • greatest song ever written.....

  • one of the greatest rock and roll performances of all time. the words, the music, the psychedelic guitar, the man, the band... incredible.

anyone know what guitar he is playing?

  • As has been said, the best version, Bob is just ranting out the lyrics while the band absolutely belt it out

    @xcorlett

    Its a National Glenwood

I don't think they make them anymore although Airline Guitars do a very similar model

  • listening to this right before irene :)

and this is wayy better than the original.

  • Hoo ! Justin Bieber have 5 account to dislike ...

  • @Wannakillyonche seriously? shut the fuck up and take your generic bieber comment with you. the rest of us are enjoying some good music

  • the best ever

  • Sensational live performance.

Only wish I could have been at the gig but I was "born in another lifetime"

I never tire of watching and listening to this track.

    BOB DYLAN...........LEGEND

  • Does anyone know what guitar Bob is using?

  • The gear set up on stage with clothes hanging over cameras and amplifiers in front of each other - stacks of old style amps everywhere - it all makes it look so ramshackle but also so much FUN.

  • It is the bass that makes this version groove so hard!

  • @armybass1970 good call - the bass rocks.

  • excellent, greatest song writer of modern times

  • which live performance is this?

  • which live performance is this?

  • I forgot to say what I think is so great about this performance, it's Dylan's voice. It's as strong as I've heard and just Dylan in his greatness.

  • I watch this video alot. I think it's the best version of Shelter From the Storm. I wish I'd been there, wow!

  • I didn't think I was going to like this version, but I couldn't turn it off.....he's really rockin' it.

  • This song is just flawless.... I can't stop listening to it. It's almost as if God is speaking to you. Everything just flows. This song could turn an athiest into a believer any day! lol.

  • What type of guitar is Dylan playing? That thing is sick!

  • Jim Morrison rides onto the storm while Bob Dylan runs for shelter! ROFL :D

  • This is probably a little late, or maybe I'm a little out of it, or both - but still, I'm wanting to know if anyone knows... who and/or what he's singing of, from his view, I mean.

  • @EmilioChristian take it all with a grain of salt

  • Oh to have been there in person!

  • Well maybe the Waterboys came close with Whole of the Moon

  • In a little hilltop village they gambled for my clothes

i bargained for salvation, they give me a lethal dose

No one can write crazy good lyrics like Dylan did here. I too wish i could turn back the clock to when God and her were born

  • The best days are when I decide to shuffle Dylan on my ipod all day.

  • @OsamaBinLadenx

what is your definition of a good singer? the carbon copies you see on American Idol?

Lmao...good lyrics...but...someone else should have sang them???? Thumbs down.

That's what makes Dylan so special as an artist. He may not have what ppl consider the voice of an angel. But, it's just like seeing someone for their looks and not what is inside. OsamaBinLadenx....I guess that name sums up your Americana, patriotic views. Blah.....

  • From 1962 to today there is no one like bob dylan, besides bob dylan.

  • @dablueman21 Bruce Springsteen is kinda similar

  • @iamobeliskquake You can't even compare springsteen to dylan. Dylan has much more talent.

  • @dablueman21 there music style is still very similar

Springsteen is like Bob Dylan and The Who combined

  • @iamobeliskquake Bob Dylan changed his music style at about every recording and concert...

  • Wow... I have had this song in my head all day ;) Dylan kind of day ;)

  • Perfect number of likes considering.

  • I've heard this awesome song in the movie Flash Forward !

  • @F3FisGoodforYou that is a GREAT SHOW!!!!!!! i saw it too!!!! that asian girl was learning how to play it!!!

  • fantastic version of a legendary song!

  • @Camdenyardbird1 oh man dont make me choose, theyre both too good and too different

  • @dionramonroloff Why do you hate Dylan?

  • I never cared for this version of the song until I saw some drunken hillbilly doing the most amazing interpretive dance I have ever seen to it

  • Heard CBS closed the evening news with this and footaqe of the Joplin, MO tornado.

  • Happy 70th Birthday, Bob! The Hard Rain Concerts were my favorites; and yes, this was my favorite song!!!

  • One of my most favorite songs.....Happy, Happy 70th Birthday, Mr. Dylan. ♥

  • Happy 70th Birthday Mr. Bob Dylan

  • Talk about "Wild Thin Mercury Sound!"

There's another video on here with better sound quality. It seems it comes & goes!

  • Jesus was Arabic you MORONS

  • @sh10131957 actually, Jesus was a Jew :)

  • @Sheindie

    So was Dylan :)

  • @Sheindie That's why there's a Jewish Star behind him, maybe.

  • T Bone Burnett!

  • I was there and it was cold and rainy and miserable and great

  • cannot stop listeningto this

  • Three dislikes??

Where's Dirty Harry when you need him...

  • first time i have seen this- you have to be kidding me.

  • @tmcginness1 I had the same reaction....epic

  • anyone know the chord progression?

  • @swanski100 E B A B

  • @bconnor94 is it the same? I know that's the studio version but it doesn't sound right here.

  • Nothing compares to Dylan live!

  • Damn, I like this version much better than the album version.

  • i like this version better than the album

  • Thanks for that senor1100! I'll be adding that to my collection.

  • Is this version on a CD or on MP3 somewhere?? I'd love to get it.

  • @Nocturne2 this song is on the Hard Rain cd . the very best dylan live album

  • pretty sure this is from a special recorded for ABC but not broadcast. it's not from Rolling Thunder Tour, Band is too small obviously.

  • Actually, this was broadcast on nbc in 1976 (I remember watching it). it was from the second, and more electric, half of the RRR. There was an ealier concernt from Florida that was allso recorded, which was intended to be broadcast, but never was.

  • @BJMich11201 I remember that, it was taped for the Midnight Special and for whatever reason it was pulled. It's regarded as one of the great lost Midnight Special shows

  • this song is included among 37 other songs on "Songs For Japan". All proceeds benefit the Japanese Red Cross. We need to do all we can to assist in this tragedy! Pre-order it on Amazon now.

  • Be glad you weren't born earlier. You can still appreciate the music and you're that much younger.

  • Daust 126 the year was 1976

  • @daust126 Pretty sure it was 1976. Second part of the Rolling Thunder Review tour.

  • i love bob dylan and this is my favorite <33

  • Seen Bob quite a few times live and he sometimes can be a bit of a hit and miss but this has got to be one of the best live versions of any of his songs, album version sounds a bit tame compared to this

  • bob dylan was the first hipster

  • Much much much better live

  • Excellent lyrics. Second to none.

  • I want, no NEED, a recording of this performance! Wish the audio quality was better. Damn!

  • @MNCypress714 buy the hard rain album :P (the audio is pretty good, what i really want is a dvd release of this concert)

  • @MNCypress714

  • @Danimal506 Thanks!

  • What an incredible performer. But even better are the lyrics; poetry with music!!!

  • HE'S BEAUTIFUL AND DEEP AS AWAYS<3

  • @sunbear11 I guess Jews all look the same too. Please.

  • what 3 jamokes clicked "dislike"?!?!?!

  • dam he looks fine here

  • Ahh He plugged in! Nooo!

  • my favorite Bob Dylan song.Man,i was only two when he did this show, but,if i could go back in time to any concert,i would pick this one.

  • "like a crocodile ravaged in the corn"

    ???

  • @DanielAzawitz the line is "hunted like a crocodile, ravaged in the corn", I don't think the two statements are related... but it doesn't matter what I think, and that's why music is BEAUTIFUL!!!!

  • @saintboondoc I have been ravaged in the corn --- by Midwest rednecks (Ouch). It feels exactly like being a hunted crocodile. Dylan always makes perfect sense.

  • a true artist

  • Awesome version this is the first time i've heard it..won't be the last..

  • I've been listening to Dylan since 1964 and I'm very glad I was born when I was. This is my favorite version.

  • That is definitely what Jesus looked like, only he wasn't as quite as awsome. . .

  • @farloo100 Love Dylan, but the man himself knew he was nothing when compared to Jesus Christ. :-)

  • @farloo100 Maybe my favorite comment in the history of youtube

  • @farloo100 No doubt Bob got his wings, but everybody knows Johnny Cash is God ;)

  • @farloo100 JESUS CHRIST "The One And ONLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Perfect Human Being To Walk The Earth, The Absolute Greatest Phenomenon To Ever Cross The Horizon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, Dylan Knew It And You Obviously Don't. And If You Don't Believe It, It'll Be A Wonder If You'll Still Know How To Breathe.

  • @EmilioChristian change where the names Jesus Christ and Dylan are and itll make sense

  • Incredible lyrics............

  • like trying to bottle lightning!

  • This just flat out ROCKS!

  • This song is my daily medicine.

  • i might need a bigger DeLaurean ..Blues wants to go 2 ..lol..

  • i remember watching this on TV at the time, was about 15. bought the album and still play the CD in my car. "Suddenly i turned around and she was standing there . . ." for many years this was the only version heard so i always enjoy hearing older ones or newer for that matter. one of just so many of his great songs

  • i am workin on the power supply to get back to 1976
