  • nice glow *_*

  • what kind of microphone did you use?

  • what material do you use to made the tower?, i refere to the panels

  • this is an electret microphone

  • Hey You´re a God :P Very Nice Tower ^^

Ps. Would You Send Me The Song Or Tell Me Were I Can Find It ^^"

I Dont Know But... It Rocks Hard =P

    (MetalHippy@hotmail.de)

Hope U Can Help Me thx Before ;)

  • @MetalHippy88

now you can only rip it from youtube video (google "download mp3 from youtube")...

i uploaded a .wav file so its a decent quality...

  • how much this?

  • @xXSpeedXxXHunXx

    10 days +10 leds +30cm =50euros :)

  • @mixcev Thx man :DD

  • i just love this song

  • NICE i need to do a project 4 school (making a led vu meter) but i can only use 5 V and my micro controller only has 18 pins ind i can use 9 of them 4 leds you god a god ideah?

  • Абалденно!!!

  • looool xD

  • good job !!

  • i built something similar with LED-lighted letters from the sign of an old shop.

    check my videos!

  • Were did you buy the plexi glass that thick?

  • @Inventor89

one domestic company made it specially for a private customer, and the piece i bought was a remain (?) that was left from that, so i bought it per kilo... if i wanted a new piece that thick, i had to order a board 2x3 meters - 500 euro ! ! ! ....but these two kilos were two euros! ...not much of a help?!!

  • @mixcev

or maybe u just can make a box of desired thickness and fill it with water then seal it (using flourescent dye and balck light leds comes to my mind)

  • hi, cool tower :)

    maybe you can help me.

i think the lm3916 is too sensitive,

any idea how to get the light slower?

and the first ~4 leds are very bright in comparison with the others,

any idea how to solve that?

    thanks a lot.

  • @Flogo85

...sorry, no idea.... look at the chips datasheet, they covered some troubleshooting in it...

  • @Flogo85 add a resistor of potentiometer

  • /watch?v=n1yfiF3JhIA

  • Hi mixcev , i make your circuit and it's work , but i have a litlle problem!!

i have to setting the music so verry loud before the leds lighting up ??

The first four ok , but the other leds are lightly ?

Can you help me to fix that ,

The meaning is that , at tender music volume the leds are also works.

I must play now loud music to see lighten leds

    Wich value must i change

    thx

    greets redvoka

  • @redvodka39

you can lower the resistor on the mic to 5KOhm, two 20K resistors can be lowered, but be carefull!!! maybe lower capacitor instead of 10uF....

after all, you can raise the power supply voltage on the LM386, so the higher voltage goes to 3916, or lower the supply on 3916, so its more sensitive for voltage from 386...

these are suggestions, they might not work, be carefull, dont blame me if something goes puff :)

  • Hi! Can I put electrolytic capacitors instead the ceramic ones?

    Thank's!

  • Hi , i took a look at your shematic , but you have in your shematic 1 line with LEDS

on your project that you show here , you use more lines , more LEDS , with differents swiths to choose the upcomming colour...... do i needs than more LM3916 for each line ? Do you use RGB LEDS off normal High brithness leds ?

    Thx

  • Sorry for my bad english

  • @redvodka39 every output of the LM3916 goes to one blue and one white led at the same time, but the other leg of all ten white leds is wired to the switch, same for blue.. so, when the switch is in position 1, minus connection for ten white leds is connected (blues are off), and in position 2 whites common minus is disconnected and blue is connected...

another switch is on-off, and third switch is for the third row of white leds, which light at the same time, like a lamp...

  • How much did it cost for u to build that :)?

  • Nice video, this is pretty sweet looking! I like what you did with the plexi - it looks 'organic' somehow with the uneven edges! I took a look at your schematic (thanks for posting it!); does the LM3916 chip need any programming by chance?

  • @coolboarder44

no programming, it just gets audio voltage input and divides and outputs it to ten LEDs...

  • Cool, very cool ...

  • what kind of leds do you use ? What's the type number ?

  • @boeykes12

...5mm, high brightness... type number is cheap-&-bright-&-blue@any-store.now :)

  • incredible!!! nice job

  • bad ass.

  • Omg, i have now an Orgasmn :,)

  • @Foufouvideos

    nice feeling, isn't it.... :)

  • Comment removed

  • i'll never see this before , amazing !!! WOW !!!

    Nice work

It give me a nice feeling to see it

My oldest son (10y) , play like a dj at home ..... it's nice to see him bizzy

Mixcev can you also send me how to make this , so i can try to bild this for my son ........

    Thx

  • could you send me how to make this or something? how much were all the parts? and was this hard

  • @foxdude2012

PM me your email for schematic... parts were around 40 euros... not very hard, just time-consuming...

  • Amazing !

Could you please send me the schematic?

    Thanks

  • this... is AWESOME!!! The different amount of lights per bar... the different shapes/cuts on the edges so its not all straight... amazing dude... i especially like the first few seconds when it turns white... but still has a blue thinge to it, making it look like an "ice" effect, whites still good too, but i like the first white part better... I can't get over how amazing this looks... once I get a bit of experience with LED's and VU meters, i'm deff going to make this... 1 LH and 1 RH... WOW!!!

  • @ibainesy

Thanks!! ..actually, the 15mm plexi couldn't be cut on the laser i used, so I scalpel cut it and hand broke it, and to me it even looks better this way...

  • Hey how did you make this? I would love to make one. How long did it take and how much?

  • hey..

nice man.. it#s a very nice effect

  • Hey, I just wanted to say that I'm thoroughly impressed.

I wasn't initially looking to have a project on my hands, but I'm interested in having this.

You did mention where you received the schematic, but sadly the site wasn't as easy to navigate as I expected. I was wondering if you would have a direct link?

Lazy on my part I know, but I would appreciate the assistance. It would surely beat having to look through hundreds of pages.

    Thanks

  • @subsonicsoundcrazy

...pm me your email and i will send you a .gif pic...

  • @mixcev

Well now I get to reveal to you how often I use youtube for communication purposes.. How do I send a pm to you, instead of a community message?

  • This is so COOOL!!!! i suggest you to make these ant sell them!!! i think a lot of people would like to have one, including me.

  • That was cool!

  • Zajebisty efekt!

  • hmmm I would build something like this for low frequencies only :P would make good effect with music

  • Where did you buy this?

And if you made this please give me a exact schematic and parts list.

  • крутая лампа!!!!! спасибо!!!!!

  • Which specific schematic did you use for this?

  • EpiC

  • coool

  • se ve de huevos... estan chingo ese proyecto me intereso mucho voy haber la manera de hacerlo espero que no sea muy caro salu2

    nos vemo0s a la proxima....

  • buenaS!! me puedes colaborar con el circuito!! te agradezco

  • shinyyyy!!

  • That is fucking amazing ! ! ! ; )

  • wooow!!! AWSOME !!!

  • Woow, that looks like right out of a sci-fi flick. very well done.

  • grate tower :)

  • thats sick!

  • Good idea:D Nice!

  • very nice done ^^ =D

  • not hard, if you know the basics u can make 1 with anything.

  • скажите название музыки =)

  • mr.T and mr.O, my friends...

    not released...

  • wooow its very nice

  • what LEDiodes did you use?10mm? 20 mm?

  • svejedno je ledica i od 3mm moze napraviti takav efekt :)

  • very nice :0

    party!

  • Exellente job ..mine just got finished ..im on the second ..vu meater :)..Love it

  • amazing...

  • the name of the song?????

    thank's!!

  • This is the best VU meter vid I've seen! How much time/ money does it cost to make this? Did you do a bunch of other led projects before this one?

  • hi .. where can i find this schematic ?

i have only schematic with IC LM 3915..it is same or different ??...

    thanks for the answer..

  • watch in hq last 10secs of "kobaya - graphite" video in my folder...

  • Nice work... You should make a guide on how to make this from scratch :)

  • can i use a IC LM 3914 to make this?

  • yes, but it has linear sensitivity, and 3916 has logarhytmic which is more adapted to human ear sensitivity curve...

  • can you mail me the mp3 AfterRetroxim to me? :D

  • Nice man!, where can you buy these transparant bloks?

  • its called plexiglass... try with people that make neon-illuminated signs...

  • wonderful!!! :D

what is the name of music?

  • track is called AfterRetroxim, done by friends T and O

  • Hmm.. can't find it :(

Can you send me on email?

  • you wont find it, its not released, and i dont have it with me at this time... dl it from this video, its good quality...

  • mine's all done! i'll post a video, within the next week!!

  • Sex!

  • How much power does this use?? I can get 10 small, 5mm LED's to work, with 6 volts. I'm making a tower, similar to yours and am still debating if i'm going to use 1 LED per sheet, or 2. Any ideas?? my sheets are small, 5x12, 1/2" thick. I feel 1 for each should be fine, but i'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks. -Joe

  • whole setup uses around 3 Watts.. i use transformer of 12 volts, i think the minimum for LM3916 is 3V, so 6 is fine...

i have one per sheet - blue, or switch to white - also one per sheet, or switch to "lamp mode" also one white per sheet.. there is a resistor (pot) in the schematic for led brightness, crank it all the way to max brightness, because in reality LEDs are much dimmer than in the video.. i would go with one led per sheet, for more leds youll need amplifying transisors for each sheet

  • This is absolutely phenomenal.

    Great Job, mate.

  • WOW!! awsome 2 of those next to my couch NN

  • hOw dO yOu dO this??

    grEat jOb!mEn!=D

  • Yeah!!!!

  • hello friend ! first of all, congrats for this baby, it's so nice. I'm starting myself to learn a little electronics...

You said you used 12 000 mcd... do you think if I use 5 000mcd, it wont be enough??? what do you think? I would like to know your opinion before even trying to do something (because of the cost, yeah i'm a little poor guy ^^)

Thanks again, and hope you answere.

    Greetings from France

  • dont worry, it will be enough. mine are dimmer in reality than in the video.

10 clear 15mm plexi pieces are not cut on laser.. i started cutting them with scalpel and then broke them apart with hands, so you dont need expensive laser cutting. you can see the edges are not straight but roughly broken.

you can put two leds in every piece for brightness, if you find cheap leds with 5000 mcd, or make it with ice white plexi, it contains more light within itself because its not clear...

    5000mcd is OK

  • one last thing ^^

    first, thanks for answering.

second, i don't know if i can find a 15mm plexi, but what if i cut and put together 3or 4 layers of 2mm plexy?

Anyway, thanks for answering me at the 5000mcd question.

    Cheers

  • you can, but if you put 4 or 6 layers, i think the outermost layers will be less illuminated because the LED shines on central 2 or 3 layers most, and less on outside layers.. i think that way would be great if you stack all the the layers without spaces inbetween, so the darker layers would act as spaces.. you need at least 3 layers of 2mm, its 6mm and led is 5mm.. or buy 3mm leds...

i'd like to see it when its finished..

    cheers

  • looks great!

  • Nice Job, Nice Music, Nice Video! :)

And who is more info in instructablesdotcom?

    A find "vu+tower" or "led+tower", or "vu+meter", or "tower"... Nothing... :(

  • instructablescom, search: Battery Powered Portable VU Meter, by Vlorbschnat .

    *i used LM 3916 instead of 3914

  • actually, i used schematic from user Nak down in comments on that page....

  • Thx! :)

  • excelent!!! I want one!

what kind of led did you use? specifications for example:

    3.3V 20mA 20 degrees 8000mcd

  • 3.3V (3.6 for blue), 20mA, 15(or 20)degrees, 12000mcd...

they look much brighter in the video...

  • wooow tht owns..do you sell them?

  • no... i made that for a friend...

  • Ah..how much did you spend in it?:) rlly good job man :P

  • arround 5e for plexi (scrap pieces per kilo, not new), 10e laser cutting, and 10e for electronic parts... and days of planing...

  • Comment removed

  • wow tht plexi is very cheap..and tht thing what holds the plexis..where you got tht from, did you build it by urself?or bought? and you light it with diodes?:)

  • its 6mm brown plexi, drawn in CorelDraw and laser cut... ...diodes, yes...

  • well,respect :) thanks

  • You need another for stereo.

  • fucking nice.
