im new to all this, just brought my first compound off ebay for $400. That bow he was holding, looks like something the Predators use to take down the Aliens
Wow. A long bow and a recurve should not have any attachments on them. Not one not even a sight. "its not about the kill, its about the hunt" use a traditional bow, you pussy.
@HappyHourFilms1 I shoot both english longbow and target recurve, both are just as challenging as each other. You might think its not necessary to have all this on your bow, but it sure does help when your in a competition and you need 10's to win.
How does no one think it's hard with sights..... It's not a scope... we're still using our eyes without any enhancments and our bodies are still made of flesh.... Which tells me there is room for fault. These athletes shoot perfect scores. That's impressive, sight or not. And long range shooting with a scope on a rifle is impressive too... I don't understand where some of you people are coming from.
i shoot compound,recurve,and longbow.trigger,tab,3 finger,split finger....
and got nothin but respect for my fellow archers/hunters.takes a great skill to use these weapons. use what u choose have fun and best of luck(skill)2 all.
Look at all this nonsense. Grab a recurve bow with NO SIGHTS, and remove that long pole that is used to help you shoot better, and then lets see how you shoot.
@AL3XizPR0 if you thing that "long pole" and sights would suddenly make you a world class archer.... Let's see how you do with tip top archery equipment. Ill be surprised to see you even hit the target at 90m.
Psh, i can hit a 12 inch box around 100 yards away with a bow with sights, Its not hard if you have sights. As long as you have tuned your bow to 100 yards, Its just a matter of putting the dot on the target, and keeping a good form. Im not saying that these guys have no skill, im just saying, these guys would enter a whole new ball park if they took there sights off.
Try to use a recurve bow, with NO sights, i bet you wouldn't even hit anything at 50 yards.
i did not hit target at 100m ever time with longbow, im cripled now so dont shoot more than 30m, but with recove, would range it like i used to be a marks man but carnt say what range i could shoot to sry, its the same as shooting sa80 got to consentrate entill nuthink ells is happening then do it. Working on instintive shooting now thats so much fun lol. Would be nice if all the bows were in the olimpics
Ive been shooting a compound bow for a long time, I use a very small stabilizer in the front (5 inches for vibraiton) and i still think that the long stabilzers are just ridiculous
@sar32386 Then you sir, need to pick up a recurve. The longer stabilizer produces a much better feel in a recurve, I won't pretend to be a technical expert, but in addition to weight distribution, the stabilizer dampens vibration, and the feel is noticeably different in a recurve changing the stabilizer length. a recurve has very long, multi-plane cycles of vibration, best absorbed by a longer stabilizer. Shorter stabilizers are good close, but even target compounds use long ones for distance
i do wonder why the longbow is not in the olimpics as it is 1 of the oldest bows back to neolich era, and takes more skill the main reson i stoped with that bow was its to eazy to hit the targets, feels so much better when u hit it 100m with a longbow as its me and my eye that do it
u need skill to shoot these kinds of bows as well. i mean, it's like traditional shooting but with the extra accessories to make sure that u can concentrate on the target. that's why it's called target shooting. have u even tried shooting these kinds of bows?
It's like comparing compounds to recurve - compound target scoring margins are TINY, so much so that the difference between winning and losing is usually one point or a shootout (what happens after a tie). With all that extra equipment, a massive amount of effort is devoted to specific technique to ensure such consistency.
Traditional relies a lot more on intuition and technique, recurve relies a lot more on form, technique and some intuition.
I can barely hit the broadside of a barn with my sighted compound so I can appreciate the skills of both an olympic archer and an oldschool longbowman!
Local Archery Mart in Adelaide. It's a basic twin cam Perfect Line compound that's $AU345 without extras. It's fun to shoot barebow with fingers, but I recently got a peep sight added and now use a release aid. Now down to dinner plate sized arrow groups at 30 metres! (well... most of the time!)
My sighted compound bow fits into your aim and release category... I can aim and release... and if I'm lucky hit something at up to 40 metres! Olympic competition is world class and the standard range is 70 metres, with these recurves. They get consistent 9's and 10s. There's still the skills of the old school longbowman even with a stabilised and damped recurve!
hey i have aluminium arrows and a traditional bow instead of compound and every time i fire my arrows the flecthings keep tearing is there a way so that they won't tear?
if u have plastic ends there should be three fletchings and two colours, the fletching with one colour must go on the top,(its hard to explain) *sorry*
there should be three fletches. One of the fletches should be pointing out toward you, while the other two point toward the bow at opposite angles. the fletch pointing out toward you should be perpendicular to the bowstring (if you look from the nock of the arrow)
Additionally, if your fletches still tear, it probably means you have some clearance issues. try to spot trends i.e. bottom fletch tearing all the time, and you seek out the source of the tearing. most likely it's hitting your bow.
Yes The25man, there are bows designed for beginner archers. However bows come in all shapes and sizes, so dont rush into anything. If you are keen on archery, i suggest to look up an archery beginners course and/or a local archery club, depending on which country you are in, this might vary as to protocal, so look at both. im a coach/archer in england, so thats how id do it. As for the arrows, to be honest there isnt a need for safety type arrows as archery is a safe sport if properly respected.
well, all arrows are lethal. no matter how safe you try to make it. If you try adding a sponge in front, it'll affect the flight. Treat the bows and arrows responsibly and NEVER goof around with them.....well, you shouldn't get anyone hurt.
Yes you can. You can get a bow to your side. Your height and weight matter. You can can get this thing i forget how its called it lets to shoot the arrow without drawing back to much
Very useful! Thanks!

That looks like a stupid bow. Though I know nothing of archery, so I'm probably wrong.
All that extra stuff just seems so unnecessary.

why dont they use primitive bow if they are good enough joining olympic ?
if they shot bullseye from 50 yard away , they are really honored .
just use crossbow , if you want mechanical accuracy .

traditional bows for the win.

I'm guessing they're plastic fletchings? If so, replace them with feather fletchings. They bend as they pass over, so they don't break as easy.
