  • this looks expensive as fuck, you're dropping how much per drink?

  • you dont have gas from this fibrous shake?

  • @barry0044 : Nope - excess sugar is associated with "gas". You can also reduce the fruit to have if you don't tolerate the shake (usually people handle them very well).

  • Can you link me to the product that you peel the orange with?

  • @mrholmandirect : It's an OXO peeler,,, few dollars online or any store.

  • Hey there - I purchased my VitaMix partly based off your video -Your video was super helpful! I felt so inspired to also do a video. Thanks so much!!!

  • haha the cameraman like fibre

  • Flax seeds aren't as digestible as ground flax seed meal...that's what I use.

  • @krpataky The blenders will completely pulverize the flax seeds - you will get all of the good omega 3 oils. Remember that flax oil or ground flax is oxidized (damaged) after several months; whole flax seeds protect the oils over a year and are thus excellent when blended in these smoothies.)

  • Bananas aren't ripe if you can still see green on them. ;)

  • Hey Doc, what brand of enzymes did you sprinkle into the blenders? Thx

  • @TomLeykis1 I use enzymes from E3Live website - they are plant derived and with wide pH range activity (so they don't get denatured in stomach acid). The brand enzymes doesn't matter in my opinion - just that they are plant derived and affordably priced. Most people do not use enzymes in the smoothies and get all the benefits... I'd skip this ingredient unless you really like a "smooth" smoothie.

  • I thought you couldnt mix fruit with vegetables ?

  • @bluefishbrad That is a traditional "food combining" rule - however, it doesn't apply to blended foods as they are so rapidly digested that the "sugar fermentation" doesn't happen (at least in my experience).

  • You realize flax seeds go right through your system unless they are crushed right?

  • @YoLninYo The seeds get fully blended - you will not find a single whole flax seed in the smoothie.

  • you lost me at "I got two blenders"... clanup is a beach!!! ... informative video though.

  • @YoLninYo Clean up is super easy! I have a Vitamix and all you do is rinse it out add water to half of the machine then put a drop of soap and put it back on and blend it for 15 seconds and rinse and you are done. I love my Vitamix!!

  • @YoLninYo Cleanup is actually about 15 seconds per blender. No disassembly! Just rinse...

  • You know a lot!! Can you please make more videos??

  • man this is great video. i was gonna subscribe but you only have 1 video :D please do more for us.

  • nigga drinking leaves, thats awesome!

  • ohmygosh. Marry me? :)

  • Look people let's not get stupid here organic vs inorganic is just retarded. If you are worried about chemicals, mutagens, etc then go live in the deep forest because as long as you live in an industrialized area you are going to be exposed to everything. Even the water you drink has many traces of chemicals including cyanide, lead, and other things but do people die from it....NO so stop crying about organic GOD

  • He's throwing away most of the nutrients, obviously he hasn't a clue on what he's doing.

  • @thomamon all he needs to do to count for the acidity in what he's throwing away is to take some alkaline in the form of bicarbonate soda.

Of course high acid diets can cause cancers.

  • @funacc10 I think that most dietary acid come from animal derived proteins, sodas, coffee etc... vegetable smoothies are alkalizing in general and I have not seen any research that would support monitoring these subjects in a healthy person, except for recurrent kidney stone formers who might not tolerate high levels of oxalic acid from certain greens (i.e. spinach).

  • Nice demo. Thanks

  • I blend the stems to. Is that a no-no?

  • 11 Million Patent Infringement Judgment Awarded to Blendtec

Federal jury finds Vita-Mix willfully infringed Blendtec’s patents in four-year long court battle

Blendtec Rules! Just oredered the NEW Designer series yesterday!!

  • My blendtec burned out from making ice cream and it's been five days and it won't turn on -__- back to the company it goes. My vitamix is now 10 years old and still works to make ice cream ;P.

  • @chavitavb my blendtech came with a loose blade in the container.sent it back now wondering about a vitamix.more money but is it better?

  • @timpenfield5 much better, they're amazing!

  • @timpenfield5 I got mine refurbished and it comes with a full 7 year warranty still and its wonderful! I would check it out for sure! I have no complaints with mine!

  • @timpenfield5 Over the years I have found myself slowly starting to prefer the Vitamix .. but do not let this bias your decision - both are great blenders.

  • I have had my vitamix for over 6 years and have never had a problem with it. . . I love it and would recommend it to anyone. In my mind the vitamix will always win the blendtec vs vitamix debate!!!

  • hi are u also use these diet for your breakfast, lunch, and dinner?

  • he examines both, says, "looks identical" and then only tastes one of them.

  • To the person that mentioned unripe banana, they are lower in sugar.

  • @sexyzenwoman I have actually reduced the fruit to half and doubled the flax recently. Turns out that we probably eat too much sugar.. it's my 2012 resolution to cut back on fructose!

  • @DoctorTouk - That's awesome! I use 50/50 with veggies and fruit. I also put Garden of Life raw protein in my smoothies. I'm always posting about nutrition and health on my FB page, michelle's health & nutrition zone

  • Thanks for this unbiased review. It's helping me chose which of the two to buy.

  • Either way you slice, dice, or blend it, eating good food with a good blender for the win!

  • what surprises me, that I wish he would have addressed is....can you really stuff the blenders that much...almost to the very top....with all the fruits etc? With most traditional blenders you are not supposed to fill them that high

  • @yippee2000 : These blenders are designed to be stuffed to the top. That's why I like them. I have blended thousands of green smoothies and often make them for a large number of people. Making 3/4 of a gallon in about 5 minutes is efficient use of my time. The cheaper blenders would require multiple blends with smaller volumes - something that I don't have time for. Many cheap blenders also "burn out" when making serious smoothies. I tried.. no point. Just invest in one of these blenders IMHO.

  • "The pith, part of the protection layer for the orange, contains high levels of fiber, anti-cancer agents and important bioflavonoids (an antioxidant). So next time when you have an orange, think twice about peeling off those healthy beneficial white piths."

  • @voidwareprohibited DOnt the seeds contain a poison?

  • @pizzaman123 : Seeds of plants can contain cyanide - something not to worry about with apples. Flax seeds also have cyanide (about 350 parts per million) and apple seeds have about twice that (700ppm) on average. I got this data from "Total cyanide determination of plants and foods using the picrate and acid hydrolysis methods" study from the journal of Food Chemistry. The bottom line is that I could not find clinically significant reports of cyanide poisoning from these foods - so, no worries.

  • Really, either blender does the job. There is a very big difference between commercial and residential blenders, however, namely in how easy they are to clean, their power, and longevity. Great video!

  • Thanks for the advice

  • @voidwareprohibited I cut the apple cores out because they sometimes have fungus in them...

  • this is very nice. Raw Foodist are the healthiest person could ever be.

    cheers from australia

  • @SirRediazVh : There are definitely many benefits to raw foods. However, recent studies have shown that some nutrients have less bioavailability if they are not cooked in certain foods. Also, raw foodists did not always have the best blood nutrient levels. See nutritionfactsDOTorg videos on these studies (by Dr. Gregor from Cornell University). Overall though, juicing and blending provide high density nutrition for anyone (especially important for CRON (Calorie Restriction Optimal Nutrition).

  • @DoctorTouk THX

  • Just additional info.

Blendtec has a 3yr warranty on the motor only. 3hp engine

Vitamix has a 7-10 yr, on the motor and containers, 2.5 hp engine.

If your blender doesn't have this kind of speed it can't break the structure of the cells down, for you to digest properly. If you eat corn on the cobb, same idea applies.

I've added organic cold pressed organic coconut oil to mine, or hemp oil. Not always just when I think I need it. Supposed to be good for the skin.

Also try a bit of Ginger

  • Blendtec is #1. it makes hot soup also. It is sooooo easy to clean. A regular blender could never do the same job. This motor rotates at 300 mikes per hour and is the size of a cantaloup. Do your research before you put it down. It is worth every penny!!!

  • @EnticeMe15 The Blendtec has a 3 yr warranty, The vitamix is 7 to 10 yr warranty. Vitamix will also send an prepaid address label for shipping if your machine needs servicing. Vitmix has a 2.5 hr. engine and the Blendtec has a 3hp engine. I prefer to go with a longer warranty. Also Vitmix containers are covered in the warranty, Blendtec's are not covered. Things to keep in mind.

  • You should read "Green Smoothie Revolution" by Victoria Boutenko. She was the one that revolutionized the Green Smoothie drinks for health. She tells you why you should not put oil into smoothies. And you are not kind to your machine. You over-pack it and that stresses the motor. I did not see you remove the seeds, which are not safe to eat. But keep up with the smoothies for wonderful health benefits.

  • I love my vitamix it works amazing but it overheats every once in a while

  • BADASS KNIFE

  • Thanks for the recipe, but if I'm going to add a liter of water, then I don't need a blendtec or vitamix. I can do that in my crappy $40 10 year old blender. But I don't want to be drinking juice allday.

  • @dick117 - smile, your $40 blender doesn't have the speed to break down the callous structure of the green fibers in the vegetable, so your body will have a harder time digesting it.

  • I hope people are cleaning their greens before eating. Just because it's organic and came in plastic doesn't mean it's clean. I bought some organic spinich and made a salad without washing and in the middle of eating I SAW MY SALAD MOVING!!! There were these clear little leaf worms in it!!! (Cringe)

  • @dick117 Worms and bugs are a good bonus to increase your protein!

  • @dick117 You bought it from Costco? We had the same experience from Costco greens, even though, it said pre-washed.

  • @dick117 I agree that washing produce is important. It's almost annually that organic raw produce (i.e. alfalfa sprouts, spinach, tomatoes) cause food poisoning in many people. These bacteria are present in soil, but also come from animal agriculture waste runoff that gets in contact w/ organic produce. Some "enthusiasts" say that vitamin B12 comes from dirt... sure - but in minimal amounts and high risk. Vegetarians, raw or not, need to take a B12 supplement or fortified foods.

  • @DoctorTouk I got real bad Salmonella from not washing produce. Not only is washington important but also making sure you use a brush or your hands to manually scrub to get any stuck surface debris off that running water will not.

  • @dick117 there was a live green frog in a bag of greens. Im amazed on how the company does not check their bags of greens before shipping.

  • @dick117 Perhaps God wanted you to get some extra protien? lol

  • Both ate good products, I have a vita mix. I like the blendtec, but how ever I like the vita mix because it gives me more customization. It's like apple vs android

  • 400+ for a blender is ridiculous! I paid around $70 and it works just as good.

  • Thanks for sharing!

  • I was hoping to see at the end "BLENDTEC WINS!" so I could feel good about buying mine. But in the end, it's personal preference. I like pushing a button that says "smoothie" or "ice cream" and other people like having the control knob.

  • @xxclixxx Same here. I just got a Blendtec, and I also have a $13 Durabrand (Walmart) blender. The (really) cheap plastic blender actually does an excellent job. It's a lot easier to use as well. The $430 Blendtec blender is amazing too. What is the best setting for ice? I can't figure out how to blend ice!

  • @SouthwesternEagle the button that says ice on it.. though i use ice in my smoothies and use the smoothie button and it works fine, you sure you have a blendtec?

  • @xxclixxx I also have the Blendtec. People seem to think that you can't control the speeds of a Blendtec. For the record, Blendtec has preset blend recommendations as well as speed intervals. For goodness sakes, they are pulverizing things not performing brain surgery. lol.

  • YUMY! Thanks for the recipe and information! I love learning new things to help keep my family healthy.

  • Thanks for comparing the two blenders. Just wonder why you did certain things like adding unripe banana (you had to snap it off, ripe is when there are brown spots on it) and then adding olive oil to a smoothie!! You do not need to add oil to fruits and vegetables for health. You need essential fatty acids. Add a little flax seed or chia seed, these blenders are awesome at grinding it down, it is unnecessary to add a refined oil product. Oil is 120 cal per TB. Use whole foods with the blender

  • @RawVeronica You are correct. I no longer add olive oil (or any processed oil) to my smoothies. I instead add flax seeds to improve the omega 3:6 ratio. I did not fully appreciate the importance this information until I watched a video by Dr. Greger at nutritionfactsDOTorg. I used an unripe banana because I have not heard of any contraindications for doing this. Please let me know if you know of any :)

  • @DoctorTouk Oh really? Yes bananas (and lots of other fruits) need to ripen and be soft. The enzymes in the fruit actually break down the raw starch and turn it into sweet sugar. So if you are eating bananas that are partially green or just barely yellow they are not ripe yet and at their peak flavour. Also digesting raw starch is much harder and when you let it ripen the natural sugars are developed, taste better and are easier to digest. Try it! Eat bananas when they are speckled brown!

  • @DoctorTouk That's great! Bananas (and lots of other fruits, aside from apples) need to ripen up. The enzymes in them break down the raw starches and turn it into sugar so it is easier to digest, and tastes better. Bananas are not at their peak and very starchy when they are still a bit green or just barely yellow. You have to wait til there's green speckles on them and you don't need to snap them to peel. Just easy to peel and the skin is a little soft. They taste MUCH better and digest bette

  • For the most antioxidants, eat fully ripened fruit:

Research conducted at the University of Innsbruck in Austria suggests that as fruits fully ripen, almost to the point of spoilage, their antioxidant levels actually increase.

Key to the process is color that occurs as fruits ripen, a similar process to that seen in the fall when leaves turn from green to yellow to brow" a color change caused by the breakdown and disappearance of chlorophyll, which gives leaves and fruits their green color.

  • @DoctorTouk

The riper the banana, the more starch that has been converted to sugar and the sweeter the banana. Never eat unripe bananas or any unripe fruit for that matter. Cheers!

  • nice video! i'm really torn between these two blenders... i guess each has its own pros and cons...

  • @shamrock1337tm Personally if I had to buy another I'd probably try to buy an old vitamix, as our 20 something vitamix still works. It uses the older style metal housing, gears etc, and you get a nice bright flash from underneath when you switch forward and reverse, but it still works.

  • 1:23 "I must break you..."

  • you need cutco knives

  • very informational, thanks. in fact, you remind me of Dr greger.

    Go Vegan ;)

  • Blendtec is the best one in my opinion

  • Which blender would you say is better?

  • I bought a Ninja 1200 Blender and was impressed but then decided to buy a Vitamix to test it and compare. I did a video and will upload it here shortly to my site. Amazing difference. I have also been hearing that the 4" blade Blendtec is the way to go over the Vitamix because it does not require a tamper for pretty much anything. I really dislike the need to constantly tamper with the Vitamix.

  • "Stem is good fibre!" LOL

  • you have to eat the seeds food is very informational. Eating a fruit without the seed is useless. That little seed is very important. Think about it. Otherwise good vid. I hope you didn't take it the wrong way. But as you do your research what i mentioned about eating the seed you will see that your boy is right. Peace and i will invest in one of these blenders.

  • You should remove the seeds from the apples because they contain contain amygdalin, a cyanide and sugar compound that degrades into hydrogen cyanide (HCN) when metaboized. The body can detoxify cyanide in small doses but if you are eating them frequently it is possible for dangerous levels to build up in your body. Just cut tge apple in half abd use a measuring spoon to easily scoop out the seeds.

  • when he was cutting the apples at 2:10 i said to the apples hey apple knife

  • what a fantastic video!! thanks so much!!!

  • you was almost doing good to you start putting that non natural powder substance in there. No good. Peace

  • What kind of knife are you using to cut the oranges?

  • @OrenjiOrange : I use a regular cheapo knife to cut the oranges; I use an OXO peeler to get the skin off.

  • @godscuttingyoudown : Juicer wastes a lot of good biomass. I have a monster juicer as well that I use to juice cabbage, beets, celery, and carrots. The pulp goes to compost/trash for the most part, so it's actually more cost effective to "blend" vs. "juice" most fruits and vegetables, unless you prefer a pulpless beverage.

  • Hey Alex6996able...... you remove apple seeds because they contain cyanide. That is sort of deadly. Obvisouly you would have to eat about 50 apples worth to die....but I will do without. Apple seeds add no other nutritional value. Maybe you should YOUR homework

  • Check out the Oster Blender Hack project videos on ytube. I am also working on a hack to make the Vitamix Cordless powered too!

  • Try putting half of the orange peel in the blender too. I blended whole orange in the smoothie and it was kinda strong for my taste but now I only peel half the orange. Try it and see what you think of it..

  • @outspeaker : Orange peel in the blender - actually a great idea in small amounts. I recall seeing studies some years back that they reduce your cholesterol levels.

  • when the guy said stem is good fiber i was like woah where did that voice come from

  • Great video doc, I tried the smoothie for my first meal out of the hospital and was very pleasantly surprised; it tasted great! In case I didn't say so before I left, thank you for your time and care while I was hospitalized. I enjoyed our conversations : ).--AE

  • Great video. You have inspired me to use more flaxseed and greens again. I generally us plain kefir from skim milk instead of water. I also leave the seeds in with the apples.

  • Why did you remove the apple seeds The seeds and peels have those very valuable nutritions. You should leave all seeds in as they have nutritional value. But, I guess you have to educate yourself. Do you know that we don't have the required enzymes to break down flaxseed oil for the body to properly assimilate? That's why fish oil is the best source for Omega-3.

  • @alex6996able : I cut out the apple seed due to little fungus that is usually in the top and bottom of the apple (I'm a bit lazy so I cut it all out, including the seeds!) In regards to fish omega 3 oil. Humans can break down flax seed just fine. The problem is that to convert the flax omega 3's into DHA, the enzyme in humans that does this only converts about 5% of the oil. This has resulted in low DHA levels in vegetarians. Solution: 3 TBLS flax daily and/or 250-500mg algae DHA supplement.

  • @DoctorTouk your food is good...but the point is to NOT take supplements...and i agree with the camera man...i use the stems in my juicer (breville) because they have a lot of juice and also the lemon whole is THE best for help detox. thank you. good juice ideas consider using the breville juicer AND your blender machines for a complete way to eat and prepare meals

  • @melissam0ss : In regards to the point being "not to take supplements." I agree that nutrients should come in their natural form as much as possible, as supplements alone do not have all the cofactors etc. for good absorptions. Some basic vitamins are actually harmful to you if taken alone (i.e. vitamin E - search for vitamin E on nutritionfactsDOTorg for reference). Why do I endorse B12 and DHA - simply because studies indicate that they are necessary and safe. The pros outweigh the cons.

  • @alex6996able Apple seeds contain cyanide. While I admit that I don't know how many apple seeds one needs to consume for a fatal dose, I prefer not to ingest anything that contains cyanide.

  • the blendtec was done way before the vitamix less oxidation

  • an apple corer like the one from oxo good grips makes life so much easier :). anyway, thanks for the vid and i never thought to put olive oil in the smoothies.

  • @isaachaze1 : Olive oil is a monounsaturated oil.. so it's not actually the best possible option long term (but it's still a healthy choice relatively speaking). Recent studies indicate that our omega3 to omega6 oil ratio should be at least 1:4. Thus, I am now replacing my olive oil with more flax seeds or ground hemp, both which are high in omega 3 oils. Do not buy these oils in a bottle, as they get oxidized relatively quickly (few weeks according to Dr. Greger from the humane society).

  • @DoctorTouk I use Barleans total omega swirl, which hopefully is good. it tastes pretty good at least. but i might try the flax seeds in my vitamix

  • @isaachaze1 : Unfortunately all high polyunsaturated oil blends (i.e. Flax oil, Udo's oil blend etc.) become ineffective within a couple of weeks from production. It is not recommended to try to get omega 3 oils from pre-made oils that come in a bottle (even if in a dark bottle in the fridge). This has been demonstrated in multiple recent studies. Instead, use flax seeds or self-ground flax seeds (ground a new patch each week and keep it in an air tight container in fridge).

  • @DoctorTouk How bout using Organic Virigin Coconut Oil?..I've started using it for cooking and my girlfriend for her skin in last month...It's an amazing substance!

  • @CRANKYONE100 : Unfortunately, coconut oil 92% saturated fatty acids, which in general upregulate cholesterol synthesis in the liver. However, recently some research is proposing that unprocessed coconut oil could maybe be a special case due to its high content (~60%) of medium-chain fatty acids (12 carbons or less) which might not behave as traditional longer long-chain fatty acids because they enter the mitochondria w/o using carnitine-dependent transport. My advice: moderation and read more!

  • @DoctorTouk Please help, where can i find that blentec online and what's the model's name?

  • @BlackSkullz09 : That's the "basic" version in the video.. you can get it from the blendtec website. i'd recommend the "Total Blender Wildside" since it has a bigger blade ($40 more expensive though).

  • @DoctorTouk - Just read a bit more about coconut oil. Bad news... it does increase cholesterol just like other saturated fats. It may however have other qualities (i.e. good for immunity), but it's bad news for cholesterol.

  • Nice Video, thank you for sharing this with us.

  • Olive Oil?

  • @bluesdog88: Olive oil is a monounsaturated oil for the most part (~90%) which is a relatively healthy and important oil to health. The remaining 10% of olive oil is made up of polyunsaturated oils, with an omega 3:6 ratio of 3:13, which is quite high for the pro-inflammatory omega 6 component. However, to improve the omega 3:6 ratio in the smoothie (optimal is 1:1), I add a couple of tablespoons of flax seeds (about 66% polyunsaturated oil w/ omega 3:6 ratio of 1:3 (one of highest in nature!).

  • How many servings does this make? I am on a calorie restricted diet. Would you consider this as a meal replacement?

  • @terridalt : This can definitely be a meal replacement. However, I would also add a granola bar or something because "chewing" food communicates with the brain and gives more of a feeling of satiety than just a quick gulp of the smoothie. I personally do not feel fully satisfied if I just drink this smoothie without actually also eating something small. It makes little over a half a gallon of green drink. Total calories: ~600-700. I usually have about 32oz. during lunch (~300kcal) + granola bar.

  • @DoctorTouk I just had an aha moment. I've been juicing and have become comfortable and feel that something was missing. I think it's the chewing that I've been missing. Thanks for the suggestion. I have homemade granola from oats and hemp that will accompany my meals. BTW, I have juicers and the Blendtec but have trouble deciding what I should use. You comment on making smoothies and not wasting excessive pulp is also good for the gut.

  • nice vid! im hungry

  • @miningforeelephants, that worn out rumor has been heard many times before, and is been vetted out as nothing more than Vitamix followers pathetic and futile attempt at damage control. Give us all a break.

  • Blendtec sucks! i haven't even had mine for 2 weeks and it broke already. the whole thing just fuckin shut down and never came back on. DO NOT BUY A BLENDTEC!!!

  • @cardiokiller, Besides saying "Blendtec sucks", can you site any specifics, or are you just another one of the numerous Vitamix shill drones? A Blendtec simply shutting down after 2 weeks? I am sorry but I am going to have to simply call you out as a liar, and that you have never even touched a Blendtec, let alone owned one. Its as simple as that. If you actually bought a Blendtec and had ANY problems with it whatsoever, Blendtec would have no problem resolving it. Instead, you spread BS.

  • @cardiokiller Ridiculous.

  • nice vid!thank you. I purchased both blenders and gave the vm away. for me its blendtec all the way. but both are GREAT!

--great tip for everyone using greens on a regular basis: try cotton bags to store your washed greens eg. Organic Cotton "Salad Saver" Bag ;)

--what kind of digestive enzymes do you use?and what is your favorite natural source of vitamin D?

    ps.

I like your style :) par hazard are you from sweden norway or Suomi? I have lots of friends there and you somehow remind me of them..

  • @holyhealthy : I never used cotton bags as they let air through.. my greens stay fresh and crispy for a week in my bins. If you have a small fridge maybe the cotton bags are worth a try? Let me know... In regards to vitamin D. I recommend taking vitamin D2 supplement for the simple reason that your doctors are going to measure 25-OH vitamin D2 levels. Then they are going to tell you that you are deficient even if your unmeasured D3 levels are sufficient.. It's a complicated topic. Just go w/ D2.

  • @DoctorTouk hey doc:) thanks for the detailed answer. its funny with the D vitamins, because that is what actually happened to a friend of mine. and I asked my uncle who is a doctor and basically he says the same think like you. yeah I stick to my D2. regarding the cotton bags I have great experiences in terms of freshness but you are right with the air. I’ll give bins a try, I have a huge fridge, is actually almost twice as high as me(I am 1.60:) and 10x as wide.lol. thanks!

  • I love this recipe, but i use orange juice instead of a whole orange because my blender can't handle it. Many thanks!

  • @juxtn Cut them up more.

  • Dr. Touk, why didn't you use the entire apple since these are suppose to be 2 of the 'best' home-centered blenders?

  • @bintasyllah : I cut the apple into fours because the the apple might otherwise get "stuck "on top of the blade and not blend because of its size. The reason I cut out the core of the apple is not because of the seeds. It's because I'm lazy and I don't want to wash the apples (and many apples have dirt or fungus in the crevice where the stem comes from). This way I don't eat that stuff in my green drinks.. :) heh.. If you washed the apples you could choose to not remove the core.

  • @bintasyllah A whole apple may be a bit to wide to fall down into the cutting path of the blade. If you look at pictures of the blendtec or the vitamix blade, you will see how the large bolt in the middle would stop the apple from falling down to get cut up.

  • I thought the purpose of this blenders to blend the seeds , you did not put the seeds??

  • @AJSwisgirl : The reason I cut out the core of the apple is not because of the seeds. It's because I'm lazy and I don't want to wash the apples (and many apples have dirt or fungus in the crevice where the stem comes from). This way I don't eat that stuff in my green drinks.. :) heh.. If you washed the apples you could choose to not remove the core.

  • DoctorTouk, does the vitamix and/or blendtec do wheatgrass?

  • @Gaea11 : What you can do is add water and then wheatgrass.. blend it well.. then strain it through cheesecloth or a strainer to get the juice. The cellulose is not digestible in wheat grass so it needs to be removed (humans are not cows :) Heh..

  • can you blend carrots?

  • @MARS2477 : Sure - carrots blend well. Make sure you blend for a good while to make it really smooth. Oryou can filter out the pulp through a strainer after blending if you want pure juice (however the pulp is high fiber and healthy).

  • @DoctorTouk thanks i just got the vitamix from bed bath store and its amazing! my friends are saying im crazy to spend $400 but i think in the long run i save money and is one of the best blenders plus 7 years warranty! i got with the 20 percent off coupon!

  • Comment removed

  • don't put anything in your smoothie that is not found in nature. the flaxseed, oliveoil & digestive enzymes are unnecessary. Just fruit & vegetables! Everybody read "80/10/10" by Dr. Douglas Graham.

  • @smallbuttfirm flaxseed is natural.

  • Will it blend that is the question

  • blendtec all the way

  • The reason why Blendec has a 3 hp motor is simple. Their blade is like a plane propeller, it requires more hp to spin the food. A Vitamix, which is 2 hp, requires less power as their blades are configured differently. Both machines are very good, although I hear that blendtec containers leak after a few years and need to be replaced. It is just a personal choice.

  • what brand of digestive enzymes do you use? How much and how long does that container last you? I went to a whole foods store and that stuff is expensive.

  • @hazelbow : I use an enzyme powder from E3live. The supreme enzymes come in a 50g powder at $20 per bottle. It lasts me all month. Don't get pills - you get so much less actual enzyme.. just sprinkle the powder in the blender and save money. However, even if you don't use the enzymes, I don't think it really makes a difference as the food is full of enzymes that gets released when you blend it up.. I just do it because of my OCD biochemistry tendencies lol!

  • online vitamix is 449. on a roadshow as in sams or costco they are around 399. My dad worrks for vitamix.

  • This is a really tough decision. I don't know which one to get. I like the design of the vitamix more, and I also like manual more that automatic. But the Blendtec can hold more and those functions seem pretty cool. Can you use a variable setting on the Blendtec?

Also I like the idea of the tamper. Which do you prefer?

  • @TheLoserKingdom : It's true that the blendtec blender is bigger and even more powerful with the 3" blade. It does not however have a manual dial to set the speed. It has "variable" buttons the will blend with various speeds. I use the Blendtech for sticky stuff that is hard to get out of the Vitamix with a spoon due to the narrow blender container and blades at the bottom. I use the Vitamix for smoothies. I usually just alternate the speed on the vitamix instead of using the tamper.

  • @DoctorTouk - the new blendtec wildside blenders have 4'' blades in 96 ounce carafes. I've noticed that even when you put the new carafes on the older models the new bigger carafes make a huge difference.

  • @dayingyang0 Wow! 4 inch blades? Can you carry the blender around without getting arrested? Lol... I'll remember that when I'm in mood for another blender! ;)

  • @DoctorTouk I'm new to all of this and am trying to decide between the vitamix and the blendtech. I sense that the blendtec is technically more powerful, but it sloppy and Vitamix has a less convenient design, but allows you to make smoother creations. Do you have any suggestions as to which I should consider buying [first]? I [will soon] have a green star juicer, so I'm more interested in making healthy frozen treats, soups and nut milk. There it is, my life story in a nutshell.

  • @bintasyllah : That's a difficult question... I think the vitamix can make better nut milk due to higher distal blade velocity (escpecially with small seed i.e. sesame) but the blendtec can possibly make better frozen treats because of its wide base (in a Vitamix the cold foods occasionally freezes into a "shell" (like an igloo) above the blades and the blades can't reach it. Then you need a plunger to push it in or add more fluid.) Both will make soups well. It's a tough call - I'd go w/ VM..

  • @DoctorTouk, that is total BS. The VM blade can spin up to 240MPH, while the Blendtec spins up to 300MPH, and it uses a much larger blade. It will blend anything much faster & easier than a VM. Raw foodies follow VM because for many years, that was all there was in high performance blending. The VM doesn't even come close, and VM knows this. In VM's top line COMMERCIAL blenders, they tried to copy the design of Blendtec's HOME blender, and were found guilty of patent theft at $33+M!

  • @PE425 As far as the green smoothie example here, I have had several variants like this, they are very nutritious, balanced, and are simply awesome! For those that are new to green smoothies, or are just having a hard time adjusting to green smoothies and think they are not sweet enough (even with the fruit), simply add a tiny amount of Stevia, then gradually reduce the amount you use each time until you find the green smoothies sweet enough without the Stevia.

  • @bintasyllah "Sloppy"? what does
