  • aren't gm foods cheaper than organic?

  • very very clever good work

  • That shit aint going into my chow fan and chow mien!!!

  • lol this is funny

  • cute... I am not a fan of the corporate duality, but there are better ways to fight injustice. firstly, identifying the root of the problem

    for information without an agenda-

  • @Uuuurk Polished rice(what Golden rice was made for) may be linked to increases in diabetes. nih.gov/researchmatters/june2010/06282010diabetes.htm Africans may already be more prone to diabetes. diabetes.diabetesjournals. org/content/52/4/1047 .short Unpolished rice has beta carotene and other nutrients and may decrease risk of diabetes. Why give Africans $100,000,000 polished GM rice and maybe increase diabetes, instead of unpolished rice they already have for Vit A?

  • @Uuuurk Golden rice isn`t for world hunger it is for nutrient deficiencies and it isn`t free, it cost $100,000,000 to produce. More lives could have been saved using $100,000,000 for supplements or to grow existing foods rich in nutrients. Conventional breeding has created nutrient enhanced crops and most studies suggest organic farming increases nutrient content in food and has higher yields in poor countries. Why use GM foods when there are cheaper, less risky alternatives?

  • @myndy86 "Page not found" x2

"may be linked to increases in diabetes"

How may it be linked... Lol, how many studies have been performed between the corelation of diabetes and golden rice?

Golden rice is created by a scientest who whanted to end world hunger, its not created for big coporation like monsanto.

Regular rice cant produce all nececery nutrients. And its created for the ppl who cant afford to eat anything but rice.

Were have u got the info of the prodoction cost?

  • Respond to this video...And one more thing. Here is a list of all the microbiologist who've tried to speak out about the corruption going on with corps like Monsanto. h t t p : / / w w w . stevequayle . com / dead _ scientists / Updated Dead Scientists . html

  • @aguirrmar Dissliking monsanto is one thing, dissliking GMO is a completly other thing

  • @Uuuurk Obviously you don't know much about Monsanto. They are one of the biggest producers of GMOs. GMOs are riding shotgun on Monsanto's bio hazard train of destruction.

  • @findawaytosmile1 GMF are not needed for sustainability. Conventional breeding has already created disease resistant, drough tolerant, salt tolerant, nutrient enhanced, higher yielding etc. crops. UN/World Bank report International Assessment of Agriculture Science Technology Development by 400 scientists concluded biotechnology has very little potential to alleviate hunger or poverty, but agroecology can and is more sustainable. Several other UN reports agree.

  • Does the GM Rice also feature "Fetal Flavor Enhancers" too??

  • i would like to point out all of the ridiculous propoganda in this video. Its actually astounding. They come at GMF in such a negative light, there is no way a person who is uneducated on GMF could make a good opinion on it. Before you decided whether or not you agree with GMF or not you have research more about it. I'm currently doing a research paper on it and what I've found is that yes the risks of GMFs are high, however in order to maintain a sustainable future they are 100% necessary.

  • are you KIDDING me?

yes GM foods have risks, but THIS is what greenpeace is going to challenge?

GM rice has been modified to not resist pesticide but contain vitamin A and FREELY given to south asian farmers where most of its impoverished citizens' only source of food is rice. This helps against vitamin A deficiencies which would other wise kill them.

I used to respect this organization, now its a fucking joke.

  • DECEPTION

  • @lightsinthesky246 I think they're talking about the Bayer company in this particular clip.

  • @lightsinthesky246 I'm interested in looking up the one you mentioned, which company is it made by/what's it's name?

  • @whathuhwhere Its called golden rice its made by scientests not working for any company but who whant to fight world hunger. Though no company ownes it to my knowledge lot of genes and techniques are patented by diffrent companys like monsanto however when its used for the ppl in the third world they dont charge.

Since monsanto dont charge anything those fat bastards at Greenpeace wage campagins at golden rice since they think it will give monsanto goodwill.

  • @Uuuurk Thanks for replying Uuuurk. I didn't know about Monsanto freeing the patents for that project.

I don't think their opposition to it is based on Monsanto's pr though, as I doubt one good gesture will make much of a difference for the company's reputation. I think it is more to do with long-term community-based solutions vs the rice.

  • @whathuhwhere well thats kinda bad argument that ppl too often use. why would the rice exclude other solutions? and the rice itself is a long term solution against hunger.

  • IF THE GOVERNMENT GROWS IT, DON'T EAT IT!!!

  • I don't see the point of this video. Even when GM rice is approved for sale, they know it'll never reach the shelves because dogmatic, narrow-minded and backwards-thinking people like Greenpeace deceive the public into opposing it.

  • Awesome video! Clever! Summed up perfectly what's happening in today's grocery stores. Grow your own food people! Its going to get ugly.

  • so... greenpeace hate technology now, and wants everyone to starve?

GM helps with the riddiculous problem of human overpopulation, if greenpeace are so caught up with their stupid ideals of natural produce, then they're more than welcome not to eat the fucking rice? stupid narrowminded fucks.

  • @thattrampaguy Its not that hard to figure out Greenpeace wants people to starve its only their crazy world would work

  • @Darkwizzrobe If by "crazy world" you mean NATURAL WORLD, then you can call me crazy, too. Idiot.

  • is this supposed to be bad

  • The phrase "natural rice" makes me cringe.

  • The bottom line here is that the big growers don't give a fuck about humanity.

The GM is not to help YOU.

It's to make the product more abundant and easier to maintain and harvest for biofuels and animal feed, so they can schtuff their fat faces, while the rest of the lemmings die of starvation and disease.

They can clear out villages world wide and let them flock to the cities and starve.

The GM and chemicals in combo allow for total automation. Very, very few humans required.

  • I'm glad I stopped supporting GreenPeace long ago

  • @ddpl365 same here... ever since they started dropping boulders on the ocean floor

  • The way current GMO companies do business and the type of products they put out, with no benefits for consumers, only for seed buyers gives Biotechnology a bad name. Tragic.

  • Then put your money where your mouth is! Your buying habits speak louder and have a deeper impact than your vote!

  • I don't want to be a guinea pig for this rubbish food!

  • good thing I dont eat that much rice then =]

  • reminds me of fallout 3 commercials

  • Keep helping GREENPEACE for our safe...

  • Haha, this is a cute video

I am sooo signing this petition now!

  • is it cheaper than normal rice? if it's even more expensive, i don't think it'll "feed millions"

i think it'll only feed big companies

  • Great Work!

  • Fun video. Keep up the good work. As for the bogus research that "feeds millions", ask the Indian rice farmers what they think about that as they commit suicide at astonishing numbers because they don't have the money to buy overpriced GM rice seed and the herbicides to farm it. GM rice makes fat companies richer while farmers starve. Yeah, real progress.

  • @literature2008 GM rice is free..

  • @Uuuurk um....what? I want some free rice! :D

  • @whathuhwhere i mean monsanto dont take charge for it to ppl in third world countries. it would cost if it was selled elsewere

  • Un caro saluto dall' italia.

    I CARE TARANTO

  • well what happens if this GM food turns to be disastrous? the only thing you could do then is blame. and feeding millions? i don't think gm rice cost less than natural rice. who'd eat them if they can't afford them?

  • fuck of...go and play god somewhere else..you bastard!

  • You eat that shit then.

  • One pound of rice produces more methane than one pound of beef. methane is much more dangerous than CO2. Why must you hippies continue to pollute my earth?

  • Aww that boy at the end is cuteee

  • This is the first time I see GreenPeace advocating something that won't lead eventually to the loss of life amongst the poor people of the world. Cheers ! I'm on your side on this one GP :)

  • wow.. I'm so afraid to eat anything now

  • great video,

we definitely as a world need to watch what we eat now.

  • que ascooooooooooooooooooo.

  • Hasnt killed me yet, we have additives in so much food we eat that we have developed a immunity to these additives.

  • no.. we've developed cancer and diseases from these additives.

  • ask yourself why these things are added? they havent killed you yet - is not an answer.

Genetically modified food is genetically modifying you!! Why is fruit irradiated? - One example i did myself - bought some braeburn apples from Tesco for my kids - five a day etc fruit =good. Didnt give them to them and left them in my fridge from February to June and i cut one open and it was the same as when i bought it. Why? Try it yourself. They should rot even in a fridge after 4 mnths, surely.

  • hmm, i guess your right. But do you know what else is irradiated? Microwave ovens, they bombard your food with radiation. Havnt died yet. As for why it doesnt rot in the fridge, also ive tried geneticly modified fruit and compared its taste to naturaly grown fruit. the geneticly modified fruit tasted slightly better, and all they do is make it more resistant to diesese and breed it with DNA from natural grown crops in years that have had high yields. So you get more crop that is more resistant.

  • Check out ' the flouride deception' - a toxin linked to dementia and brain damage and no use for tooth decay prevention. Lowers I.Q. as well. And other additives like aspartame, sold by Rumsfeld's company ,do similarly nice things. And do an experiment with a plant. Try only giving it microwaved water just to see what happens and let me know.

  • then how come studies have shown that after the heavy use of flouride in the dentistry profession the level of tooth decay and cavaties in childred have gone down. If you think about it, we could link all chemicials to some diesese, you need to stop giving into fear mongering, thats what they want.

  • Which studies are you citing? How could we link all chemicals to some disease? Give me some facts to deal with, not your opinion on fearmongering. Calling something fearmongering does not negate its merit. It's called waking up to the sad fact that people in charge don't really care what harm additives do and moreover are even promoting them and using them precisely for the results they expect. Did you watch the flouride deception?

  • well the way people put it most chemicas cause some harmful side effect some way or another, which means we destroy ourselves, we humans are a virus and a parasite on the earth, we deplenish her resources and poison her air and make enough super weapons to destroy all of life on this planet, 3 times over.

  • also i did watch the flouride deception, so supposbly 1mg of flouride is enough to harm you, there is 1mg of flourde in a pea size of toothpaste, it says on the bottle to contact poison control of more then a pea size of toothpaste is swallowed or ingested, there is also 1mg of flouride per 1 liter of public supply tap water. Am i suppose to contact poision control if i drink a liter of tap water.

  • It's about informing yourself that you are being poisoned. And using your brain to ask yourself why this is the case. Not about contacting poison control

  • I think a lot of people misunderstand what GM food is. Its not just food with some genes changed. It is crops developed to be resistant to chemicals. There is something very wrong with that. The idea is that they can spray for weeds and the crop is immune. Its essentially a super weed.

Sadly here in Australia the state governments want to bring it in. Oddly the National party that predominantly represent farmers are pushing it the most despite most farmers been against it :S.

  • the chemical doesnt harm humans, plus i dont eat alot of rice anyway, because i dont live in a third world country, but if you said it contained enriched uranium or plutonium, then i would be a bit scared

  • you ignorant and racial as****... rice is not for the third world county... try to use google...

  • why do you censor your cussing, youtube doesnt FUCKing care, if they did FUCKing care, i wouldnt FUCKing be here. Anyway, then why is a large ammount of rice grown by piss poor farmers in third world countries, i know its because of climate but why is alot of it grown by dirt poor farmers, is it because the higher up management can pay the farmers peanuts and then the higher up management collects most of the profits while providing barely enough money to the farmers to keep them alive. capatlis

  • Great!!!

  • CANCER CURE = HEMP OIL

Rick Simpson's Cancer Cure Hemp Oil is Cannabis extract full of Cannabinoids (including THC).

Dr. Robert Melamede ... "Cannabinoids kill Cancer Cells"

Dr. Liu ..."THC can kill Cancer Cells"

Dr. Di Marzo ... "THC exhibits anti - tumor effects on various Cancer Cell types"

  • so we should legalize marijuana for use by doctor prescription but keep it illegal for recreational use without a prescription. Such as use with cancer patients

  • umahuma4 ...

May I suggest you explore my You Tube site to learn more about Medical Marijuana.

  • SETH Group ... "Herbal (THC) compound kills brain Cancer Cells - but not normal brain cells."

Dr. Guzman ... "THC can promote the autophagic death of human and mouse Cancer Cells"

Dr. Mechoulam ... "we gave THC oil drops 400 times to children 1 -13 years old with Cancer & prevented vomiting & nausea 100%"

  • Though concerns raised in this video about corporate power controlling the food supply are understandable and completely valid, the concerns about GM are not. This video, and the attitude of Greenpeace in general, is symptomatic of a lack of biological knowledge. For example, the highly target-specific herbicide referred to in this video affects an enzyme in a biochemical pathway mammals do not possess, and therefore poses no threat to human health.

Target the system not the science.

  • The video is nicely done but where is the message? The purpose of GM Rice/ Bayer bashing totally got lost.

Just to mention that pretty much every crop we eat these days is genetically altered, so this should not be a surprise to anyone anymore.

  • the message is that we should be worried GM crops will replace natural crops... they're slowly taking over...

there's something wrong about a pesticide company owning the patents of what we eat.

    we should all be concerned.

  • DOWN WITH GM RICE

i don't want some fucking thing going on in my stomach when i eat this shit

    and i luv rice

    DOWN WITH GM RICE

  • You're like the protesting Greenpeace guy I once asked "can you tell me what exactly a gene is?". He said "I can't tell you exactly, but I can tell you that it's evil."

Educate yourself before judging, you have no clue what's going on, which is sad.

  • GM Foods = Too Many Possiblilties for something to go wrong and/or control of the world's food. Anyone who does not see that is probably working for a GM Food company or so pro - capitalism that they are blind to the consequences.

  • Tell your goverment to fuck off

  • LOL!! nice work! I love the "commerical"

  • Is fearmongering all that Greenpeace can do in the GM aspect? Before Columbus we Europeans didn't know about potatoes, now it grows everywhere and we're still alive. Also Kiwi does not kill us, despite the fact that it stems from halfway around the globe. Yet a single altered gene should be dangerous to us? That's ridiculous, with interbreeding a LOT of genes get mixed up, yet it's not forbidden. In fact, the strawberry we all eat did never occur naturally, it's a crossbred.

  • Hmm..and the artifical pesticides and man made weed killers used in those potatoes and Kiwi's were....oh there weren't any...naturel corss breeding fine..man made untested chemical use in food..not so sure I like the sound of that...but if you do, please eat it up, I am bmore than happy if you want to be a guinea pig for this.

  • oh and top little film by the way...

  • Your argument is right, but it's against pesticides, not against GM. And I like how people use "natural cross breeding"; something that would not cross breed in nature but is made to cross breed for you is ... natural?

  • Thank you for agreeing that I am right.

  • You shouldn't have stopped reading my comment after the first four words.

  • that single altered gene will crossbred with the natural seeds and destroy the natural seeds forever.

    GM foods have NO NUTRIENTS!

  • GM foods have no nutrients? Hmm, what are they made of, then? Air?

Destroy the natural seeds forever? Why do we still have "normal" maize seeds, then? GM maize has been planted for decades now....

  • @HanSoloP no its made of GM pesticide stuff and weird genes that have an unknown effect on the body.

  • @OneOfTenVirgins Exactly, that's why I can't stand people supporting this insane chemistry experiment on the entire world! No GMOs for me!

  • So how would you communcate this situation?

GP puts out a hard hitting video, everyone calls them fear mongers. It puts out something humourous, and people say things like Violet.

You can please some of the people...

  • It's just dumb and especially annoying. So much so that I can't even watch the whole thing.

Greenwald manages to produce videos that are a lot less annoying and that treat the subject matter (and the general public) with a little more respect WHILE educating and getting the point across.

I would have preferred some kind of compelling argument made for the possibility that we just don't know enough about the effects of eating GM foods.

  • This is great. Greenpeace should be commended for making a video about a sensitive issue entertaining as well as informative. Besides, GM anything is scary to me! It's strange to think that I'm eating something with a different genome. Just keep the food plain and simple! Keep it up Greenpeace!

  • Personally I think GM is great, if you're looking at the right reasons. We should be making rice that grows better in droughts though, not stuff stands up to weedkiller; I mean, how many impoverished LEDC farmers can buy weedkiller?

  • Congrats, Nice made video, but I think it should have been a bit shorter to get to the point. At a certain moment I felt that I got distracted. And maybe less facts&speech needed to get to the point? Though I know it's difficult to do so on this complex subject....

  • this is un-natural and disgusting, and im just talking about the EU!!!

  • i think they are taking a hit at tv on this one as well

  • Greenpeace hits the nail on the head yet again! Not only is the science clear for all to see, the retrospective style illustrates the incompatibility of such an idea with the health of the 21st century. If this is the kind of project my donations fund, I am keen to provide more money for more fine work by Greenpeace

  • A really good video. Funny and hard at the same time...

  • You got to be kidding me!

  • genetically altered food is kind of scary. i am allergic to certain soy products, and a friend of mine told me it's probably because some soy is genetically altered. i usually buy natural rice from thailand over any supermarket brand. :D much more delicious and organic.

  • Google this womans name - Vandana Shiva - and see what she have to add to this subject. She if anyone is in a position to see both sides of this issue. Listen to her, check her sources and then form your opinion.

I've made up my mind already. Go Greenpeace!

  • well of course, rice is much more important than people fuckin the whole world up Oo

  • thanks greenpeace you are so right... don't eat GM rice.............. (natural rice is better)

  • Comment removed

  • okay, so i'm not trying to make anyone mad, but genetically modified food is not always bad, but this kind, i believe, is bad, we should try to find natural ways to go about this kind of stuff, and use genetic modification only as a last resort, also, it's understandable why they are trying to engineer new forms of food, after all, if predictions are even a little bit under, the world will be in such a food crises, that millions will starve, but still, lol idk

  • no, that's a myth invented by corporations in the food/farming industry,, read STOLEN HARVEST by VANDANA SHIVA.. truth is, regional indigenous knowledge of agriculture always works best..

  • Noone can say for certian what the consequences of long term consumption of a GM diet. The brave new world of convenience foods has been replaced by a growing realisation that, over the years, a diet we assumed was safe is far from it. Every week that goes by it seems there's another study showing the link between a long term diet of processed foods and cancers.

What will be the long term consequences of a diet of GMOs? Possibly nothing, but I don't want to be the guinea pig.

  • Thank you Greenpeace!

You are right, we should stop it!

  • This is incredible lol i laughed so hard Its perfect Propaganda

  • booring blather

  • That is both funny and true! Stick it to 'em Greenpeace! I'm with you guys. I want my rice as real rice and nothing else! :)

  • alright well... insecticide/herbicide.

what difference does it make to harming nature???

then: "we modify nature all the time" : does the fact that we do modify nature all the time make it a good thing? I'm not so sure about it.

and then I'm not "getting confused", thanks :)

  • Plants and insects are very different, the chemicals used to control them are different and the ways that crops are engineered to be resistant to them are different, I think it's safe to say you got confused.

so, Bananas are a bad thing?

What exactly is it you object to? GM, the chemicals that conventional farming uses or the companies that make GM crops?

  • Good to counter the empty hype of companies like Bayer , Monsanto et al .Untested staple foods for patenting insults us all.Thinking people can challenge this, advert seems good. There is an attempt by US, Canada & Autralia to bring in commerical gmo wheat by 2011.Where is the voice of courage or independent science and ethics? EU needs to stand up to the US,Swiss or other corps and their rich cronies.

  • Funny and Amazing!!!

  • Nice Vid, I'll Share It On My Facebook

  • AWESOME!!!!!!

  • i'm not absolutely sure but gm rice is forbidden in austria as I know (aswell as these other gm things like corn and wheat) so may you can add this because thats one of the few things our goverment does right^^

  • Like they'll listen.

  • They have done this to corn and wheat, and NOW IT IS RICE TIME folks. Where is the common sense in this? Oh, sorry I forgot GREED.

Support you local farmers and boycott the animal and farm factories.

  • what's so bad about it?

  • Hello,

GM rice is dangerous to many extents:

    1) it is controlled by a multinational company, aiming at profit and not at feeding people.

Multinationals already have a heavy criminal record in agriculture. (watch the movie "WE Feed the world" here available on Youtube as well, to understand how.)

    2) Modifying any plant genetically is a threat to natural diversity and balance. Nature should not be modified!

    3) The chemical used to protect GM rice against bugs is harmful to nature and us all!

  • '2) Modifying any plant genetically is a threat to natural diversity and balance. Nature should not be modified! '

we modify nature all the time, have you ever seen a wild Banana?

'3) The chemical used to protect GM rice against bugs is harmful to nature and us all! '

I think you're getting confused, the video is about herbicide resistant Rice not bt Rice which is insect resistant. The insect resistant rice seems like a winner though, less pesticide on the crop which can't be a bad thing.

  • Reminds me of Fallout (the post apocalyptic video game) cinematics.

  • gut gemacht! weiter so

  • omg thats crazy!
