Both Anna and Evgenia are amazing. Anna shows power and endurance in her routines. Evgenia shows grace and poise. Both are legends in Rhythmic Gymnastics.
as you can see, evgenia showed a lot more physical flexibility than anna bessonova who play the ribbon more than the physical flexibility.. the judges know better than ya'll amateurs.. besides, this is GYMNASTICS after all, not RIBBON DANCE...
@aerosolistic Ok,I'll bite..You obviously are not familiar with the Code Of Points in 2009 or even now!However I still have a copy of it & will gladly break it down for you or anyone else that is still confused.RG is not all about Flexibility my dear, never has been!In this case,Ribbon choreo -Turns are predominant,but Colab. & Artistry,Originality,Risque,work with the equipment plus execution makes up a final score.Kanaeva made a mistake on Ribbon that should've taken her out of top 3!Trust me

@moongazer00 It would depend on what your aspirations are; Yulia Barsoukova, who was Olympic Rhythmic Gymnastics champion in 2000, actually didnt start RG until she was 13, so you see, you arent too old. Obviously Yulia had the advantage of being trained by Irina Viner lol!! It all depends what you want from RG. Go for it.!

@fortheloveofRG Not for rhythmic gymnastics? Are you kidding? There is nothing wrong with expressing a dark persona in a routine. Not every single gymnasts has to have a back that folds in two. She isn't being full of herself, she is acknowledging the support that the audience is giving her. Whether or not it was her difficulty or not, her presence on the floor is the most memorable of all.

Nadya Vasina was a hyperflexible Ukrainian rhythmic gymnast, and a team mate of Anna and Natalia Godunko, but she wasnt a good rhythmic gymnast at all; she was very weak in her leaps, no power; she was TOO flexible actually, and never made a Ukrainian team. She is doing much better now as a contortionist. Same with Irina Kazakova, from Russia, again insanely flexible, but made a very poor rhythmic gymnast; sometimes too much flexibility is a very bad thing. You need to find the right balance;)
I think she's a bit to aggressive... I mean she is talented, it's just that sometimes I can't see much grace in what her routine is... I dis gymnastics for a few years and now I am doing taekwondo as my sport and I have done gymnastics for 3 years (about that length...) and I have done taekwondo since 6th grade and now going into 11th grade. My next belt is black, and I haven't lost any grace so far! She looks more like a model to me... But either way, it still is pretty.
@whitewolf12133 That's because of the music. That was her biggest strenght, she was an amazing interpret. Whatever piece of music she used, she always had the presence, she never hold back. That's what made her so artistic and beautiful. Whatch her 2008 hoop routine, it's beautiful, graceful and elegant because the music is elegant, slow and magic.
I feel so bad for her. You could see her dissapointment! And that was a wonderful routine! Im so sick of judges underscoring. They need a new juding system. I swear, Rhythmic and Artistic gymnasts are constantly getting screwed. Fire those useless judges who dont see a thing, get a whole knew crew in there. In both Artistic and Rhythmic. Start fresh. Meaning new judges, FIG, EVERYTHING! Then maybe, just maybe, someone in the sport will be judged right for once! Sorry. Im sick of judges
@TayTayandZoee The judges aren't the only one to blame; In AG, the CoP is also a big reason why this sport just gets worse. The gymnast perform high difficulty skills even when they can't phsyically handle them (hence Musty injuries for instance) and the judges don't deduct them corectly. We see disgusting gymnastics, no artistry (except for the russians), awful execution (except my Pavlova). As for RG, it starts to get worse as well.
@TayTayandZoee When I see gymnast not even bothering to do pivouettes on a beautiful artistic high releve, it makes me cringe. Only the ukrainian have good pirouettings basics. Anna left a huge blank in RG, but I feel Maksymenko is here to fill it. The corruption is also killing that sport. RG and AG are two trully outstanding sports. RG is still very artistic, thanks god but only a few gymnasts really are rythmic gymnasts and have the basics. Like AG somehow......

Her routine is not as difficult as Kanaeva's but I really really love her spirit. I do. Oh, the passion with which she executes her movements! They are all so sharp!!!

Awful to see her disapointment while seeing the score. Maybe she doesn't have Kanaeva flexibility, but the gold ribbon was rightfully hers. She thought the same, she really believed it. Amazingly sad to see that despite her mistakes, judges awarded the gold to Kanaeva even when Bessonova went clean. Too sad to see the RG world is still not fair when it comes to make a decent podium.
@fortheloveofRG Actually not. Both Kanaeva and Bessonova had 9.0 in difficulty and 9.4 in execution. The difference came from the artistic panel, "How to give points to Viner's favorite without giving any justification." Considering Kanaeva's mistakes + her low relevé on some pivots, her execution score should have ben lower. Even shewas surprised by he score and u can see that she was ill at easeon the podium. She know she doesn't deserve it. She does deserve to feel that way either.
I really don't understand why the judges are ALWAYS afraid of NOT giving the gold to russia.? It's too bad that she's not competing anymore. Anna is a briliant gymnast that got robbed her entire carrer. Making an exception in 2007!

i'm dissapointed with Bessonova, i thought she is a sportsman, gymnast,, but she's just crying and complaining when score isn't as she expected, and now i read interview where she badmouthing russian team saying that it wins only because of unfair judgment... i didn't see her complaining in Greece wwhen she won world championship - so there judgment was good for her... too low of her..
It breaks my heart to see her so disappointed when the score comes up. She's has a magnetism that even Kanaeva--with all her brilliance--doesn't have. Not many athletes can carry off this music, but she does and does it wonderfully. I love the way she walked out onto the floor. She meant business and commanded everyone's attention immediately. I love her.
@ContortionBelle of course, i understand there are a lot of elements to it that aren't close to those in ballet, but as someone who doesn't know the sport well i mean they are similar to watch. The music is often similar, the costumes are different but both are feminine, sparkly and graceful and both sports/art forms require grace, strength, poise, and defying the laws of physics

Anya is the best at ribbon and rope, while Evgenia is the best at clubs and ball, the non-ropey stuff. Anya rocks at leaps, while Evgenia is unbeatable at pirouettes/pivots. But still these depends on the music and style, sometimes it's just hard to show your talents if the style doesn't allow for that.

I don't understand why people are judging and comparing their performance. You are not the judges, you can't even do a single thing like that and you want to judge how good or bad they were? It is hard to compare for artistic as they are both in different world. For artistic is it just for the matter you like it or not, it just can't be compared.
I know nothing about rhythmic Gymnastics but I believe the performance that wow-ed the crowd, entertained its audience, and gave me a feeling of just pure bliss is the one who should have won. After viewing both Anna and Evgenia's performance, Anna clearly should have won.

@TayTayandZoee When I see gymnast not even bothering to do pivouettes on a beautiful artistic high releve, it makes me cringe. Only the ukrainian have good pirouettings basics. Anna left a huge blank in RG, but I feel Maksymenko is here to fill it. The corruption is also killing that sport. RG and AG are two trully outstanding sports. RG is still very artistic, thanks god but only a few gymnasts really are rythmic gymnasts and have the basics. Like AG somehow......

@Missnewyork28 I agree, although I dont follow rhythmic as much as artistic, so im not really sure how they score or anything. Only because I see AG competitions on more then RG. Which is kind of sad :/ since they, like you said, are both outstanding sports.

anna bessonova si tiene gran flexibilidad en su esplada yeso lo mostro en rutinas anteriores , ademas de todas las gimnastas es lmas flexible en pernas , en estos ejercicios no aplica mucha flexibilidad pero el domio del aparato en sincronoa con sus movimientos son eswpectaculñareds , superiores a las de kanaeva

Awful to see her disapointment while seeing the score. Maybe she doesn't have Kanaeva flexibility, but the gold ribbon was rightfully hers. She thought the same, she really believed it. Amazingly sad to see that despite her mistakes, judges awarded the gold to Kanaeva even when Bessonova went clean. Too sad to see the RG world is still not fair when it comes to make a decent podium.

@fortheloveofRG Actually not. Both Kanaeva and Bessonova had 9.0 in difficulty and 9.4 in execution. The difference came from the artistic panel, "How to give points to Viner's favorite without giving any justification." Considering Kanaeva's mistakes + her low relevé on some pivots, her execution score should have ben lower. Even shewas surprised by he score and u can see that she was ill at easeon the podium. She know she doesn't deserve it. She does deserve to feel that way either.

I really don't understand why the judges are ALWAYS afraid of NOT giving the gold to russia.? It's too bad that she's not competing anymore. Anna is a briliant gymnast that got robbed her entire carrer. Making an exception in 2007!

i'm dissapointed with Bessonova, i thought she is a sportsman, gymnast,, but she's just crying and complaining when score isn't as she expected, and now i read interview where she badmouthing russian team saying that it wins only because of unfair judgment... i didn't see her complaining in Greece wwhen she won world championship - so there judgment was good for her... too low of her..

It breaks my heart to see her so disappointed when the score comes up. She's has a magnetism that even Kanaeva--with all her brilliance--doesn't have. Not many athletes can carry off this music, but she does and does it wonderfully. I love the way she walked out onto the floor. She meant business and commanded everyone's attention immediately. I love her.

@ContortionBelle of course, i understand there are a lot of elements to it that aren't close to those in ballet, but as someone who doesn't know the sport well i mean they are similar to watch. The music is often similar, the costumes are different but both are feminine, sparkly and graceful and both sports/art forms require grace, strength, poise, and defying the laws of physics

Besides, she lost the first place to Kanaeva for 0.10. It's such a small number!!! I would have had the same reaction as her if it had happened to me.

Anya is the best at ribbon and rope, while Evgenia is the best at clubs and ball, the non-ropey stuff. Anya rocks at leaps, while Evgenia is unbeatable at pirouettes/pivots. But still these depends on the music and style, sometimes it's just hard to show your talents if the style doesn't allow for that.

Anna won only a 2nd when she definitely deserved a 1st this time round. UNJUST! I dont think u should compare who is better at which apparatus. it really depends on their routines and their performance on the day of competition. and i think Anna has really good pirouettes too, just that they dont require that much flexibility.

I don't understand why people are judging and comparing their performance. You are not the judges, you can't even do a single thing like that and you want to judge how good or bad they were? It is hard to compare for artistic as they are both in different world. For artistic is it just for the matter you like it or not, it just can't be compared.

I know nothing about rhythmic Gymnastics but I believe the performance that wow-ed the crowd, entertained its audience, and gave me a feeling of just pure bliss is the one who should have won. After viewing both Anna and Evgenia's performance, Anna clearly should have won.
