I'm borderline positive this song is about his opinion of Religion in general back before he went Jew for Jesus. I remember in an interview he said he'd "stopped believing in a god" and I feel like this is an outburst of that period. I could be wrong though, the name itself suggests otherwise. Still Fucking amazing
i seriously love all the say anything videos you post! the audio quality is always great and i really apppreciate you posting all these rarities for all us fans to enjoy :)
Clearly nothing other than an ode to nihilism and narcissism when one is on top of the world in the middle of a manic run, disgusted with the idea of anyone humble and serving to a so called all knowing god. I could write more, but care nothing for you lowlifes who admire art you don't understand. Those who get it will get it.
@bob87bob92270 learn to respect others' opinions, bob. your opinion holds absolutely no weight now that you've called all others who have stated theirs "lowlifes". music and lyrics are what you make them. it's pretty easy to admire and understand art if it is what you make it. get off your high horse, kiddo.
@newyorkpigsty Thinking max wrote this song referencing Bush is absolutely absurd. Lyrics are not what you make them, they are what they are and mean what they mean. I believe what you intended to say was misinterpretation is in the eye of the beholder. Way to tell me my opinion holds no weight... I guess being critical of ignorance negates relevance.
i remember reading somewhere that max became an atheist around this time, and from their lyrics it sounds like he saying that people who are brought up with religion but never question or look into it are idiots with the whole' "you've been lead on" (always brought up to believe something, that in max's mind, doesn't exist ) there is some sarcasm in here too. "It is NO myth, no it's the BIBLE of the god!"
So I just kicked myself for ignoring this in the sidebar when I saw it all of the time. I don't know why I haven't listened to this song yet, but I'm so glad I did.
This song is clearly about how the government is manipulating us, and we are all working according to their plan, how our heads are filled with bullshit, and how we think we are free but we are really living as slaves. Fuck the government. Love this song
I've heard everything between Junior Varsity and Hate Everyone, but I heard this for the first time today and it's my new favorite song of theirs. fucking rad.
I'm experiencing the exact same thing. Since they let out Hate Everyone I've been browsing youtube and finding this wide variety of songs Ive never heard.
The thing is.. these dont exactly sound like old school Bemis, (This wouldn't exactly belong on baseball, dontcha think?) so I wonder if they could really be songs lost to time. I find myself wondering what happened to all those personal songs people commissioned max to write over the summer. Anyone remember that/know what happened to them?
I know what you mean about these not sounding like old school Bemis. The quality differs greatly.
As for the personal songs, I just think people haven't posted them. If you read the forums on their website, people talk about how much they like them.
Think about it- if Bemis wrote you a song, would you post it for the rest of the world to hear? I certainly wouldn't.
The only thing that makes me think this song is about bush is the title, but the lyrics seem to be about Christianity. "You sing to sing his praise, cause you're lazy." Talking about how worshiping is useless and only done to feel like your making a difference without actually making one. "It's the bible of the god that they've erected on the ashes of your neighborhood." Saying how people use terrible situations to push god on others.
it seems out of character for Say Anything, but still.
now that you mention it, it does sound like its about bush lol, people praised bush at first saying that he was going to improve the country, because they didnt wanna do it themselves. ashes of your neighborhood perhaps referring to the bombing of baghdad and "God" would be the oil countries behind our country that are the entire reason for inflation, the war, and many other problems.
Intro is so awesome.

It's about Christianity and Bush they may not make sense to put it into one song, but Bush was very religious.
