  • Dave Meniketti is the total package! Gary is a homerun hitter, but not the all-around talent Dave is-no way..CERTAINLY Dave is the better songwriter...

  • Like i said before, these aren't Gary Moore's best hardrock solos. Just his studio work. Please listen to my uploads, and you will find some of Moore's best live guitar work. No offense to Dave Meniketti, he is a great guitarist, but he got NOTHING on Gary Moore.

  • @FanFromEurope

And I would argue these aren't Dave's best solos, either. Point is, while Gary may be the chops maistro, he's not the singer or songwriter Dave is....it's six in one hand, half dozen in the other...

  • As i saw , dave's songs always have the live blues band background but Gary is a cool legend, the most emotional guitarist of the world may bthe best, hendrix was a blues musician as well.

  • Dear Folks...

Stop compare perfection. For me Dave is american Gary. Gary is european Dave.

Ave both... :) Even one of them is dead. In near future we all will be dead. Then we will meet together. Fuck the rest ;)

  • Gary Moore is dead. Dave menneketti is STILL ALIVE folks. Not to be nasty, but seriously Dave is the MAN in my opinion. Why, because Y&T wrote some serious long term rock songs. R.I.P. Gary Moore you were awesome and a shredder!! I think Dave had better overall tone. Seriously , though Gary DID SHRED HARD. You will be missed but never forgotten. Gary was a great guy.

  • I favor Gary over Dave. But Dave is an excellent guitarist as well. But have a similar style. Woulda been cool to see both on stage together.

  • Gary Moore or Dave Meniketti?

    hhhmmmm....Neal Schon?

  • Dave Meniketti is awesome and has wo...wait who's that?...Gary Moore....Okay Gary's won R.I.P

  • Dave is THE SHIT!! Sure, Gary has wicked licks, but Dave is the all around talent, the trifecta talent. Dave Meniketti is a better songwriter and vocalist, and therefore, the total package...besides, Gary is dead and Dave is still kicking ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @NastyNole1 they are both great players, but you are right, this is a Moore site and I still give him the edge

  • daves way clean, killer ideas

  • Depends on what you want to hear...I didn't hear a bit of Heavy Metal Blues from Gary, and Dave excels on Blues. If you want to hear shredding, Dave has better licks. For me, personally, I'd rather listen to Satriani...imho.

  • @Rainmaker65 You obviously havent heard enough of Gary. If you wanna hear sheer shred madness, listen to "toughest street in town" and "Black Rose" by Thin Lizzy also stuff from his fusion band "colosseum". There are lots more wicked tunes with wicked solos out there that most arent familiar with. Gary is by far a more versitile guitarist than Dave. Im sure he would agree.

  • Come on people. Dave could not even shine Gary's shoes let alone play guitar close to what Gary does with it....Sorry, not even close..........

  • @phantomluna1 Wrong!! Dave is THE TOTAL PACKAGE!!! Gary is the home run hitter, but Dave makes every play!!!!

Dave Meniketti is the MOST UNDERRATED GUITARIST IN ROCK HISTORY!

  • @chandlersmama He's pretty good, but is underrated for a good reason. I have seen both Gary and Dave, and Gary kicks..............

  • @phantomluna1 Wrong!! Dave is THE TOTAL PACKAGE!!! Gary is the home run hitter, but Dave makes every play!!!!

  • Dave Meniketti-the man, the myth, the legend!! Gary has wicked chops, but Dave is the all-around talent....playing, singing, songwriting....noone compares...

  • Dave Meniketti-the man, the myth, the legend!! Gary has wicked chops, but Dave is the all-around talent....playing, singing, songwriting....noone compares..

  • They are both incredible players. I think Gary had the best guitar collection though.

  • Both great but Meniketti for me. Pure Passion.

  • Meniketti is very good, but few guitarists on the planet can match Moore. Not close. Moore also has the ability to play in many more styles.

  • dave meniketti is way better now and then

  • On the guitar I give the nod to Moore, although Meniketti is a fantastic guitarist in his own right. Both have a great guitar sound as well. When it comes to songwriting and singing Dave has the advantage. Moore has many great songs as well, but Dave is more consistent in that area.

  • Dave who? :)

  • I loveum BOTH 2 death but they both pissed me off when they started cheseennnn out somertime love my ass!!!

  • Gary might be a better guitarist (love both Dave and Gary's playing) but singing...it's Dave all the way. Saw both of them in Austin years ago with Frehley's Comets (sucked as Ace was drunk off his ass). John Sykes is also a great underrated guitarist...

  • Gary might be a better guitarist (love both Dave and Gary's playing) but singing...it's Dave all the way. Saw both of them in Austin years ago with Frehley's Comets (sucked as Ace was drunk off his ass).

  • Dave Meniketti is the total package! Sure, Gary is a technical beast, but what has he done lately? Nothing...

Dave has the chops, vocal ability and songwriting talent.....Gary just has the chops....advantage: Dave Meniketti!

  • both are great and both are very different \m/

  • gary is more technical, but as far as the total package, it's hard to beat meneketti. i'd say it's a draw...

  • comparing moore to meneketti is like comparing alex lifeson to vinnie moore. we all know the two moores may be more technical, or advanced guitarists, but i'll take meneketti and lifeson for pure 'tastiness'.

  • comparing moore to meneketti is like comparing alex lifeson to steve vai. we all know moore and vai are the more technical, or advanced guitarists, but i'll take meneketti and lifeson for pure 'tastiness'.

  • @reignman2112

    Amen brutha!

  • these guys have different styles and tones .... dave is a WAY better singer ...

  • Have loved Y&T since day one. Late 70's. Come on now. Has anyone heard " End of the world " Go listen then vote. Sorry Dave.......

  • @markinddark Yeah, I love End of the World, White Knuckles, etc. but Dave has the entire package as others have mentioned. I even enjoy Gary's singing, but he doesn't come close to Dave's singing ability. Peace.

  • I have loved both guitarists for years ,I find this comparison of Gary VS Dave useless & a waste of time!

by the way, at 1:30 a part of Gary's solo is the same solo from Michael Schenker's Systems Failing from 1983/84 off the Built to destroy album!

I guess maybe the question would be: Who is playing better today?!!

    Just my own opinion ofcourse!!

  • @ GlassJoe... My favorite band of all time may be Y & T, it is obvious by this clip alone that you are right on. Gary is a monster on the guitar. I would choose Dave as a song writer and a singer.

  • GARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Its pretty obvious who is the victor. So obvious, that I don't see the point, other than making Dave seem crappy XD Gary Just has so much energy and passion. :D

  • Parts of Gary's solos are chopped out. >:|

  • Dave!

  • Dave

  • Dave is Amazing,But Gary wins that Battle every time!

  • Both are great and I've enjoyed them both for decades, but Gary is heads and tails above Dave in terms of guitar playing. Dave wins with vocals by a mile. Nobody plays like Gary Moore

  • Dave all the way!!!!! Humble and incredible!!!

  • what's the song at 5:33 ?

  • I saw Gary Moore, Y&T and other bands on a festival in the 80's. After Gary had finished, everyone started leaving and i felt bad for Y&T. Oh well, Gary Moore was easily the best of those bands and he is definitely a better guitarist than Dave Meniketti.

  • @Fotzkopp1980 you're full of shit...

  • I choose Gary because he is one of my heroes, but Dave is not inferior to him! Two great musicians, both underrated!

  • I'm a Y&T fan since the begining ! Come on now just admitt it ! I love Dave but give credit where credit is dew ! Gary Moore is conciderd one of the best ALL time guitar players in the world ! Thats no bull .........................

  • Big Man Dave!!!!!Passoinate vocals, great songs, FEELGOOD MUSIC, exiting leadguitarist.

Gonna see them next week in Dordrecht. FACEMELTER, their new cd is a killer.

Love lots of Gary s work too, but too long the same blues thingy and acting with disrespect towards his heavy rock past annoyed me. The same with Ritchie Blackmore, my favourite guitarplayer, for too many years now he has been wasting his time with Barbies Blackmore. Or is it Blackmores Barbie? Ritchie, WAKE UP!!!!!!

  • Dave Meniketti The entire package!!!! Great guitar player ,vocalist, songwriter

  • gary moore

  • gary moore!

  • both brill but ...gary abandoned rock but dave n y&t saw in leeds and spent half hour talkin to him and the band after wards wot quality ppl

  • -Chris Holmes is the best EVER....OTHERS are retards!!!

  • @75PIISPA

Who the heck is Chris Holmes?

  • @FanFromEurope

Guitarist in WASP! And he sucks :p

  • @FanFromEurope Chris Holmes IS DA BEST...DIG IT MANNO

  • You have ears, dont you? GARY RULES!

  • Both axeman r the best,,theres no need to compare them.

  • You all missed the point of the poster/creator. He is simply pointing out two GENIUS guitarists who are both brilliant in there own way. Cheers for making this compilation.....enjoyed it all.

  • seen both "live" be a crime to part them two brilliant artists!!!

  • Let's put this in baseball terms.

Gary Moore is like Barry Bonds or Mark McGuire-a home run threat.

Dave Meniketti is like a Willie Mays-the all around threat.

Pick your poison. I'll take Meniketti..

Whoever originally posted this video is obviously partial to Gary Moore. These clips don't do justice to Dave....

But you know what they say....opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one and they all stink.

  • Wow, whoever the tool was who erased my comments must be a big Gary Moore fan. I mean, I've been guilty of posting under the influence before, but those comments were not that edgy.....Nancies...

    Dave Meniketti baby!

  • why compare - just enjoy :-)

  • Exactly they both are players that play with ferocious conviction. They play like they mean it.

  • well said - great log in name!

  • do you think they're playing a 1on1 game and the one who loses is gonna stop playing guitar?

    just listen. have fun. please.

  • That 3rd solo shreds!!! Track Names?

  • Comment removed

  • All these VERSUS videos should be called : My favorite Axeman VS other!

    makes no sense!

    or COOL SOLOS VIDEOS #

the 3rd solo is from Running from the storm (AFTER THE WAR 1988 CD). at 1:29 is the Michael Schenker solo from Systems Failing from his 1983 BUILT TO DESTROY Album. not to take anything away from Gary,he is one of my heroes aswell as Meniketti!

  • i like dave.. but.. i have to say it.. gary is better..

  • Gary Moore easily

  • I love Meniketti as a performer, singer and guitarist but Gary Moore is just better . In my opinion G M is the best guitarist alive

  • Gary vs Dave= 10-0

  • This is tough. They're both incredible!

  • gary all the way

  • As far as singing/Slinger combo guys, these two are arguably at the top of the heap. I give the edge to DM for stage presence and better material over his career,

  • gary moore by far

  • Amazing Top Notch

  • Which songs are played?

  • my favorite is gary moore (Y)

  • GARY MOORE

  • Comment removed

  • Dave Meniketti all the way,he plays with way more feel and emotion than gary does and is a superb vocalist to.Gary is great but dave is the best.Check out on the blue side cd from dave meniketti. These clips dont do either guitarist true justice though.

  • @stagdagginz This is straight crazy talk. There isn't a guitar player alive that puts more feel and emotion into their playing than Gary Moore. Dave is a far superior singer though.

If I was forced to pick one I would take Gary. If the imaginary other team got Gary first though and I was stuck with Dave I would still be doing back flips around town. You can't really loose with either one of these guys.

  • just my opinion, i prefer gary`s juicy tone and his techinque is far more clean sounding for his agressive picking that being said u cant take anything away from dave he is a monster player in his own right.

  • Gary Moore´s emotional, melodic soloing is, well... was, in a totally different league. The live clips on YouTube of Empty Rooms and The Loner from 87 show that. Meniketti doesn't come close.

  • GARY MOORE FTW!!!!

  • no meniketti no y and t,earthshaker has to be one the best rock albums of the 80,s

  • Gary Moore is technically much better and faster, he has a much better tone. And these are not his best guitar solos, by far..... He is simply the best guitarist on this planet.

  • Sorry, I'm not buyin' it. Dave can do EVERYTTHING Gary can do on the fretboard AND has a terrific voice...

Besides, Dave is a FAR better and more consistent songwriter.

  • I have all albums and almost all (official and inofficial) bootlegs (especially from the 80´s and early 90´s) of Gary Moore. I know, that there is nothing, Moore can not play (better than Meniketti). Gary Moore can play ANYTHING. Today he has a good voice. And he is a equal songwriter.

  • I doubt he can play Jazz Fusion.

  • He can. Try Gary Moore´s "Hurricane" here on youtube. That is best Jazz Fusion. And if you want shred guitar play by Gary Moore, try "White Knuckles" on youtube.

  • That's not Jazz Fusion.

  • It is Jazz Rock Fusion.

  • No such thing, there's nothing Fusion-y or Jazzy about it.

  • Try the band Colosseum 2 (for example "Inquisition") with the young Gary Moore on youtube. Jazz Fusion for sure.

  • Jazzy, but I don't know about fusion D:

  • Oh, and I disagree on the tone. Dave has WICKED a tone. Gary plays like a man possessed, no doubt, but Dave just has a certain passion and groove that is infective.

To label anyone guitarist as the "best guitarist on the planet" is very simplistic. There are many facets to playing, not just technique. The conveyance of emotion is most important to me.

  • I agree, technique and speed isn´t all, emotion and soul is also important, if not most important. Gary Moore can put so much emotion and soul in his guitar play.............. it´s just incredible. More emotion and soul you can´t get, by anyone. And his (killer)tone blows Meniketti´s tone away, by far. There are so many examples for it.

  • Gary is definetly the winner!

  • Gary Moore ftw!

  • Dave Meniketti is the TOTAL package. Gary Moore is a beast, but Dave gets the nod, no doubt.

  • They should tour together.

  • This is dumb...they're both excellent players. It's apples and oranges.

  • Dave Meniketti!!!!

  • Dave Meniketti win's.

  • Well, we're dealing with two guitar dinosaurs over here. Gary Moore sure has more chops and is in a superior technical level (including using the celtic scale); however, his latest albums are boring as hell. He hasn't done anything worthy since Still Got the Blues. On the other hand, Dave Meniketti has been making kick-ass hard rock tunes for about 30 years; and consistency is something most guitarists never really get. Just take Gary Moore himself, Eddie Van Halen or Michael Schenker...

  • ...for example. Dave Meniketti rocks and does it very well in every single album. Plus, altough using basically pentatonics, Meniketti has GREAT chops and is one of my favourite and only true guitar heroes who can actually play AND sing as hell (the others being John Sykes and Steve Lukather). I would say that Dave and Gary's melodic sense is pretty much even and their solos are, proportionally, equally great. They're "songs inside songs". So, it's impossible to chose between both. Period.

  • Well don't you think Gary Moore can sing?! Come on, no one, NO ONE, can sing quite like Gary Moore! Gary Moore is quite the singer in my opinion; no one can quite sing like him especially in his songs in Victims of the Future.

All in all, I think there too many things that Gary Moore can play and Dave Meniketti can't. I'm sure Gary Moore could play just like Dave Meniketti if he wanted to.

Though I do in many ways agree with your comment.

  • Man, truth being told, Gary Moore has actually a very low range when it comes to vocals. Plus, he has little versality as a singer. Actually, one of the reasons why he started playing in lower keys is because he hadn't been able to handle the vocals so well. He, indeed, sang quite well in Victims of the Future, but it's not an unmatchable performance. You can take Menikketi today and notice how his vocals haven't changed much since when he was young. On the contrary, I really doubt Gary can...

  • True that Gary Moore is not that versitile with his voice, but he's the best when it comes to the kind of music he sings.

  • After Hours & Back To The Blues are great albums. I think After Hours is better than Still Got The Blues.

  • EXACTLY correct, Victor! You hit the nail on the head. Dave' s voice is far superior, as is the consistency and quality of his releases. Good stuff!

  • YEAH! Gary Moore is my favorite guitarist! He wins every battle! But I have to dissagree, Gary Moore is not a shredder. By the way, what albums of Gary Moore are playing in this? Never heard them. Please answer this question.

  • Well, he is a shredder in some of his songs. But not always.

  • gary moores solos taken from his after the war album!

  • Forget that last remark.

    It was unworthy.

  • Lot of Vai seeping out there from our Dave but.....lot of Gary Moore comin from the Ulsterman.

    Originality is all

  • gary moore the best la polla ostia

  • dave by far the better vocalist and moore by far the better rock guitarist .i say rock guitarist because i fuckin hate moore as a blues player .

  • I agree with you on Gary's bluesalbums. He used to be such an original player until he started to play the blues. They're always the same and i used to love gary, he was my favourite player after Jimi hendrix and now I don't check out his CD's anymore.

  • Say what? Gary Moore's very original with his blues!

  • Well I quite liked Still got the blues after the somewhat disappointing after the war. But after that I found the other albums boring I didn't like any of his new albums. I liked BBM better. He must play a combination of rock, hardrock and blues. That's just my opinion.

  • you're right..i don't like his new stuff that much either...and you're right Gary should play that combiantion and produce that killer sound he's known for!

  • GARY MOORE What else can i say expect his the best guitarist on this planet since Jimi Henrix

  • true

  • GARY WIN ALL BATTLE HE IS OUR GOD, dave meniketti play good but gary is a fury!!!we want moore we want moore we want moore

  • i searched youtube i didnt finde Devil in her heart song by gary moore :| .

  • gary moore the best

  • Please, can someone tell me, whats name of song at 1:05-1:30?

  • Moore,Meniketti,Sykes,Roy Z,guys that can Rock,Metal,Blues with ANYONE!

  • I have loved Dave and Y&T since the first yesterday and today. But you really can't judge Moore by his later works alone because the coliseum and G-force and back on the streets again albums are a freaking juggernauts especially for the 70's....well G-force might of been early 80's

  • gary moore!!!!he is my god but i like dave too...but gary is the best

  • What album is the first Gary Moore solo from?

  • The track is called 'After the War' from the album of the same name...

  • Check out Leonard hazes my space page it has some killer Y&T vids from 81 and old and new pics

  • I'll take Dave. Gary can really rip it, but Dave can as well, and is clearly the better songwriter.

    Y and T kicks ass...

  • gary moore

  • While clearly they both know the fretboard and how to use it, in the samples for this posting, Gary uses too many effects sometimes for me. But that's just a matter of personal taste rather than a comment on talent. They're both incredible.

  • I always hate these vs. discussions. Esp with two favorite musicians of mine.

    They each do their thing.

    Seen them both.

Planning on seeing Dave and boys next month.

For those who've never seen Y&T you really are missing something. It's like they never changed, slowed down or anything. In fact - better. A fan based band. They hang with their fans after the show. Very cool.

    Cheers.

  • I was sitting right there in the control room when it was being recorded. He was playing through 15 amps placed all over the studio and the amps in the big room had to have a cage welded for them because the spring reverbs from other amps would vibrate due to the noise. I didn't care for him before I met him and i care even less now. You want to hear great blues players, try Rory Gallagher or Savoy Brown or The Groundhogs. SRV is a moderate player compared to these guys.

  • SRV moderate? Who the hell are you trying to fool? Dude if hes so modertae then how come every blues guitar player to this day wants to be the next SRV? Think about that. IM sure the old dudes tear it up and Stevie learned from them but I bet if you asked them to jam with SRV when he was alive they'd be a little intimidated.

  • Texas here..yeap SRV was an a-hole, but may he RIP. Hubby knew him. They both grew up in Oak Cliff (Dallas). He was a showman first, then a musician. Texas Flood is a great song though. As far as GREAT blues players...Peter Green (before the bad trip). BB King said he was the only guitrist that made him nervous:) This is an entertaining video. Gary is my man!! Always will be.

  • What would you rather bee of a wasp?

  • GARY MOORE IS GOD

  • What song is the first guitar solo?

  • the first guitar solo is from after the war song(G.Moore)

  • thanks a million dude he kicks ass i have his first 2 albums but didnt get to this yet :)

  • I'm from Memphis and my roomate was an engineer at Kiva Studios where SRV and bro Jimmy recorded. In addition to being 2 of the biggest a holes, Jimmy can barely play, knows maybe 2 penatonic runs and SRV was a drug addled mess who would slow the tape down and downtune to C to record solos. I think SRV is THE MOST OVER-RATED guitarists ever. I can name 20 players in Memphis alone who could dust his Texas cookies. How many guitarists does it take to play a SRV song? ALL OF THEM. BECK was it 4 me

  • It's funny you slam SRV praise Beck call him over-rated when in fact Beck a guy you

praise must of had some sense of musical taste was a SRV fan. Watch the Beck/SRV live video for that moment on that stage Stevie was a musical juggernaut. So you can claim he detuned to C to later go to E flat to speed his licks up but he delivers live too.BBKING Beck Clapton Pat Travers and lots of other great guitarist who loved SRV must not be as smart as you and your roommate

    and the 20 other guitarist

  • Beck & Clapton have no choice but to speak kindly of SRV, PR thing. I observed this guy first hand and I can tell you the SRV and Bro Jimmy are the worst people I've ever met. Having grown up with Shawn Lane I can tell you that there are plenty of guitar players that think the same thing, but won't say it becuase their handlers don't want to take on any sacred cows or bad press. SRV set up 15-20 amps in one room to get the sound of a strat through a twin. Eric Johnson is THE Austin Guitar play.

  • They have a choice who they tour with and preform with and to say they would love to bash the Vaughn bros but don't want to hurt their careers is irresponsible and ridiculous.

2ns again you site Eric Johnson as THE Austin guitar guy but Eric has a song SRV must just be for PR. Reading this again playing through 15-20 amps? I'm either playing into a joke or your just retarded or both. Off topic Lane was a beautiful multi-instrument musician and person and is missed RIP
