Argh, wrote a reply but don't think it worked! Wow @ the whole island in 10 days, that's a hell of a trip, we did a wokabout from Melsisi to Bwatnapne and nearly died lol anyway, it's a lovely video, making me miss the kids even more! Happy holidays :)
Awo, tuff tumas! Wish I'd been able to take videos when I was there but my kids (I was a GAP teacher at Ranwadi, did you go there at all?) broke my camera in about week two by taking 'gangsta' pics of themselves, lol. Mi ting se oli lucky se mi lovem olgeta!
Rantavuha! Tabeana. Did you learn any Raga? Or, Sowa? I think that's what they spoke in Ranwadi. Oh, 'gangsta' pictures, that's actually why I'm in this video! Unless I was on the 'same side' of the camera with them, they wanted to see themselves and would pull on the camera to do so. And yes, I've been to Ranwadi a few times, but just passing through. A fellow Peace Corps friend and I, took nearly 10 days and circumnavigated Pentecost, which was not easy by the way! Happy Holidays!
@caseandcoop11 Thanks for the reply! Did you see my video at my channel BrianonLanguage about Kiribati? That's another of my top destinations in the future, hopefully before it sinks! Pentecost looks amazing as do the other languages spoken on it. the pentecost isle. site had a ton of info on those including Raga. Didn't know it was 50 years, wow! I would love to be a volunteer one day as I said. It looks like an amazing experience. Feel free to message me, I'd love to learn more and talk~
@ocergnairb Very sweet, thank you very much. I think it's very cool that you love 'languages'! A friend of mine was a volunteer in Kiribati, and you are pronouncing it correctly (no t, soft s). I lived on an island called Pentecost, which is obviously not it's native name but most of them speak Raga. Are you familiar with Raga? Also, did you know it's the 50th Anniversary of PC? I sit on the board of returned volunteers here in Colorado and we're getting ready for the celebrations.
Do you originally come from the US? Because sometimes it sounds like you have an Australian or South African accent, and I was curious if that was a feature of the language or something that was a part of how you spoke.
@philkool Hi- Yes, I was born and raised in the United States so no beautiful accent here, just a midwest drawl. During the Blackbirding period, the Ni-Vanuatu were enslaved to Australia and Fiji so I do believe there is that Aussie sound, especially Queensland. Cheers!
@HMClark1227 Thank you, very sweet. So exciting that you will have a Peace Corps family!!! I wish you ALL the best, it truly was an amazing time in my life and I encourage everyone to volunteer. Cheers!
@choiiceboy Hi- I meant to respond awhile back, but 'life' got away with me. Tanna is a magical place, and I'm sure you are proud. People from Tanna are bad ass and everyone is Vanuatu knows it! Although, I'm sure my Pentecost family would challenge those words with stories of their own. Happy New Year...
@caseandcoop11 oh I see! :D I was just wondering because I have a presentation on Bislama today.. :P hehe! Bislama is really similar to English, isnt it? Like "Yu" means "you" and "mi" means "me" and together, "Yumi" means "you+me" so "we"...! xD ("Yumitufala" is my favorite word ;D)

This video is beautiful
I want to go here so badly
