@Tampinu Brother, I'd appreciate it very much if you could me the MP3. I am a great fan of Apala although I am from the Mande World. We share the talking drum and similar vocals. I can be reached at sajokuumba@gmail.com. Thanks in advance.
I remember this song from around the mid-80s, one of our neighbours was a retired Army driver (Baba Tawa) in Yaba and he used to drink a lot. When he is inebriated he will be dancing in front of his house to this song, I hated the song then 'cos couldn't hear or understand what the lyrics were, all I could hear was "...ki social clu, Ni ilu Oshogbo". Funny enough the chorus used to ring in my head I after some time I didn't mind, in fact I liked it gradually.
MY GERAT GREAT GRANDMOTHER WAS FROM NIGERIA I AM BRAZILIAN BUT THATS MY BLOOD MY ROOTS, I LOVE THE CULTURE AND THE MUSIC ALSO PEOPLE VIVA NIGERIA !!!!!! ARE THOSE SONGS ABOUT THE ORISAS?
@oxossiguerreiro no its about a social club in a particular town "oshogbo" which is in western nigeria in yorubaland.. the singer is singing in a particular style which isnt used much nowadays but i love it , cos it reminds me of my childhood in nigeria ..we value these things as we get older and wiser.
@oxossiguerreiro These songs are about the people who are positive in Oshogbo.
Osogbo is one of the towns in Nigeria where the Orisha called "Oshun Oshogbo" is located, there are many Orishas in Yorubaland Oshun Oshogbo is only one of them. This song is about the people who live happily in Oshogbo and help each other, they also gave the singer money to sing for them..The singer is a muslim but his father was a singer and a big Orisha priest so the Orishas....
On behalf of all oroki sons & daughters I thank you for uploading this clip. It uplifted Haruna Ishola from a relatively unknown musician to a world renowned maestro. May God uplift our stations in life & shift Naija from doldrums it has sunk in. Then Naija was beautiful. Thanx 4 loading.
@tayewo12 ....Baba was not "relatively unknown," he was well known around the world before youtube....youtube might have helped to get him known in the newbie generation that dont know what music is....
@Regalmayor, you didnt get that msg. Baba was very popular before the advent of Yt of cos. It was that album, Oroki Social Club, that propelled him to the limelight. It was his 1st song that was acclaimed & made him a world renowned sought after musician. Thanks
please do not forget ur mother tongue because its like a farmer going to farm without a cutlass or hoe. u knw my brothers let not forget our home. ajo koda bi ile.
@samsparkler I am from Ijebu Igbo too and I think I recognize the photo..My grandparents are from Oke Agbo, on the way to Apoje, past the Ita Ale (Night Market).
thanks a lot. im just trying to develop my vocabulary in Yoruba. now adays every body is so intrested in learning English that we are forgetting our mother tongue
Ohhh how wonderful to hear these sounds this cold winter morning in Frankfurt Germany. Propelled back into the past am I with this...God bless you all who read this. Love to the world
...as i listened to the music, my whole body is actually full of goosebumps. Apala music is salutary, which makes it very difficult to find something similar in this generation. I am facinated, enthralled and captivated...there are no other words to vindicate this enthusiasm! Keep on posting, thank you family!
I know it's difficult, but i believe it's important we tell our children and grand children about these people. Their music should and must be passed to generation on born. I am quite glad internet is a very good tool in doing this but we need to honestly.
When dad of blessed memory used to play Ayinla omowura, yussuf olatunji, etc i used to get bored until few years back i decided to listen to the lyrics, I found that they are nothing but genius. We need to spread, preserve these OUR music
Thank you for this classical song. God bless you!
