@smjaganathan well use ur brain bodi dharman founder of shaolin is the master of kalari indian martial art..the yoga which in indian term is the same as shaolin the qi cong..
original parasurama is not from noth india he is from tamilnadu. Padavedu near Thiruvannamalai is the birthplace of parasurama. parasurama is a kshtrariya sage. the capital of sambuvarayar kingdom (a small group of pallava dynasty) is padavedu. there are more than 19 temples in that area which are very old.
Bodhidharma (போதிதர்மன்) is from 3rd son of great tamil pallava king skandavarma I from kanchipuram. tamilnadu. Pallava kings holds a title of varma because they were excellence in varmakalai.. which was then followed by pandya kings of tamilnadu. varmakalai means varma-brave,kalai-art. kalaraipayatu means kalari-battle, payattu-to teach. varmakalai is difficult than kalaripayatu. even 5 year kid can do kalaripayatu. but varmakalai you have to learn 10-12 years.

"A Venerated Forgery: The Daoist Origins of Shaolin’s Famous Yijin Jing Manual By Jim R. McClanahan"
There is ONE source for this bodhi myth. 1800s PREFACE of the yi jin jing has the story of him staring at a rock wall for years then disappearing into thin air leaving behind 2 books. 1 being the yi jin jing, which doesnt teach any fighting. it only teaches stretches and breathing exercises. even the MYTH doesnt say bodhi taught shaolin monks anything.
historians (like Tang Hao, Xu Zhen and Matsuda Ryuchi) have discredited the myth and the preface altogether.
bodhidharma or which was given in sanskrit the real name is bodhidharman a Tamil prince from Pllavar empire located Kanchipuram, Tamilnadu Now the south India. Who convert him to Mahayana Buddhism and became monk during the 5th century travel 3yrs by walk to china and found zen buddisum and xiolin martial art.

during the 5th century there was rise of buddisum in Tamil nadu where shera, chola, panidiya were tamil hindu empires and plallava's are rising tamil buddist empire. there are battles among them even among the religious leaders proving who's religion were superior. But after the fall of Pallava empire the buddisum waniest in tamil nadu. But still there are evdience remains about bodhidharmar in kanchipuram tamil nadu he was a pallava prince who convert to buddisum at 5th century
bodhidharma himself mythological man and author who write about him no nothing. The first recorded document says bodhidharma came from western part of china or jambudipe.Jambudipe means indian continent not india only it includes all himalayan region like nepal.Ancient time original inhabitant of jambudipe were kirata mongoloied race not aryan. However as i said bodhidharma was not real man because he decleared man of 150 years old travelling china do you believe?,and how many years

If Bodhidharma cared about his ethic origin he would have never gone to China to teach the Dharma. He was a monk who devoted his life to liberating all sentient beings from suffering, not arguing on the internet or the practice of martial arts.
bodhidharman is tamil pallavan prince at that age there wa no kerala or aryan god parusuram dravadian home land is the origin of martial arts . sorry if my comment hurts any one sorry
People who think Indian martial arts was based on that from the Greek world or that China did not have any form of boxing prior to Bodhidharma's arrival are fooling themselves.
@HindiReader nope. ancient indians worshipped greeks like gods
Varahamihira wrote in the Brihat-Samhita: "The Greeks, though impure, must be honored since they were trained in sciences and therein, excelled others....."[29]
Another Indian text, the Gargi-Samhita, also similarly compliments the Yavanas (Greeks) saying: "The Yavanas are barbarians yet the science of astronomy originated with them and for this they must be revered like gods".[30],
Its irritating to see these desperate Indians trying to take all credit for Buddhism and Bodhidharma. Buddhism was heavily persecuted in south India. Buddha is called a thief in Ramayana. He is considered a deluder avatar of Vishnu god in Vishnu purana. Sankara called Buddha as the worst criminal. And now these Hindus are claiming Buddha to be their asset.
"How much karmic merit have I earned by ordaining Buddhist monks, building monasteries, having sutras copied, and commissioning Buddha images?" Bodhidharma answered, "None, good deeds done with selfish intent bring no merit."
The emperor then asked Bodhidharma, "So what is the highest meaning of noble truth?" Bodhidharma answered, "There is no noble truth, there is only void." The emperor then asked Bodhidharma, "Then, who is standing before me?" Bodhidharma answered, "I don´t know, Your Majesty."
Yeah, Bodhidharma, the great arhat, who is revered all over the world today because of his Zen teachings, is hardly known in India. There are no records of him. Some greedy people want to sell their own martial arts here and therefore are using the fame of Bodhidharma.
Whats worse, they are even belittling the great dharma teachings by claiming it to be a Hindu heritage, when in reality Hinduism/Brahmanism had nothing to do with it.
ramayana was well before buddha so that part of calling buddha a thief in the ramayana is a lie
bodhidharma was indian, he came from south india and he was a king over there, he went to china to teach buddhism and derived the martial art from kalari and made kung fu
@himalayanspirit we love all Buddhism for it is is the legacy of Hinduism as our brothers in Thailand &Cambodia understand.Brother why do you let foregoing western influence divide Asia.
You dum stupid people, go learn some history - Bodhidharma was from the Swat valley in Pakistan. Pakistani people are not Indian - there people can be tracked by to the Greeks, Persians, monogols...So get u facts straight!
you are the dumbest guy i ever know , u first go and learn some history, bodhidharma was a south indian pallava prince, and was a tamilian ,he is no way connected to pakistan,so before commenting , get the facts and comment , if you wanna show off like a smart ass , dumbo
@peanutbutterblah not it is not , this theory has now been disprovened. There is no record of him transmitting any martial art to monks/While china has records practising martial arts why before he even existed.
Bodhidarma was from India, but he was dark as the ace of spades man. Want to know what Bodhidarma looked like? Look at fighter Kimbo Slice; he looks JUST like him.
1) Bodhidarma is described as having had very dark skin, but blue eyes. Blue eyes will occur even in non-Europeans, although very rarely.
2) Shaolin Kung Fu, is a combination of unarmed combat techniques Bodhidarma taught, with Chinese boxing, which prior to Bodhidarma's arrival, ressembled modern western boxing.
3) Bodhidarma taught them martial arts, because the monks were out of shape, and unable to withstand long meditation. If the body is fit, it can meditate longer.
not surprised; again, though rare, blue eyes are not exclusively european. a person can be 100% Indian or east asian and still have blue eyes, with no european paternal ancestry at all. Eye color is inherited from the father, I know that much.
I agree as well that Shaolin Kungfu is a miz of both Indian and Chinese martial arts. China like India had a well established martial art practice what Bodhidharma may have introduced is Marma Addi (accupunture or art of pressure points) with various Indian Kathas (martial movements and strikes). China offcourse had its own form of strikes but accupunture may have indeed been the new addition.
Both narlzp and peanutbutterblah are incorrect. Bodhidharma was not considered the creator of unarmed Shaolin boxing until the 17th century. This was when a Taoist wrote the "Sinew-Changing Classic" (Yi Jinjing) and attributed it to him. Prior to this time, Shaolin worshiped the guardian deity Vajrapani as the progenitor of their skills. See "The Shaolin Monastery" By Prof. Meir Shahar.
Plz read what I wrote again I never claimed Boddhidharma was the creator of Shaolin boxing. Peanutbutter is wrong in his assumption that martial arts soley came from India. There have been many more monks before Boddhidharma's time to have travelled to china not just him. It is certainly possible much like Buddhism and aryuvedic medicine spread throughout Asia due to the interactions of Chinese students coming to learn at Nalanda and Indian monks going abroad.
I read it clearly before. Shaolin monks did not start practicing unarmed combat until the Ming-Qing transition (mid 17th century). The martial arts they absorbed came from the surrounding area, not India. Any perceived connection to Indian martial arts (pertaining to Bodhidharma or otherwise) is incorrect.
vajrapani IS an chinese buddhist guardian deity... was a indianized name giving to the first chinese arhat of china. you fail, hes still a chinamen lol
Shaolin Gong Fu was developed much later than the time when Bodhidharma was in China.
It was developed because the Shaolin temple was continuously harassed by bandits and thieves.
Shaolin Kongfu has nothing in common with any form of Indian marshal arts, it is a pure Chinese martial arts taken from ancient Chinese martial arts or imitating animal movements and modified the strikes so that the victims most likely disabled but not be killed.
so you are saying people who made this video are wrong and you are right, just because you live in central india doesnt mean all intelligent people should come from central india because you are there. Bodhi dharma guru was a south indian ascetic. Dont feel ashamed about it because india is ONE. All are equal. Even Though the south indians are somewhat superior.
That's hilarious! I am not an indian at all! And bodidharma was notf rom modern day country called india as it's a misnomer to cALL MODERN INDIA...india .
India did not exist either at that time.

Chinese were the founder of Tai Chi and are experts of Tai Chi.
Where as Kung fu was founded by the Indian Bodhidharma, but Chinese have progressed in it & had added innovations within it.

it's just a movie not a documentary film.
