"no mouse" I saw you hit the stop all clips at the end! fraud! lol jk. sometimes you gotta use the mouse to give it that "yeah i'm checkin' my e-mail, you got a problem with that?" type of feel.
Hi, please can you describe how do you assign knob for scrooling through the clip ? do you use two knobs for scrooling in vertical and horizontal with play button to lauch the clip or something like that ? you'r knob is in CC or PC mode ? please help us thanks !!!!!
are you scrolling through the clips with a knob and then assigned a button to be the launch for that column?! i'm debating buying the bcr2000 for mashup, and thats what i need to figure out haha
you can scroll with a knob or two buttons.. the knob is kinda shifty in my opinion, but using two buttons (up and down) works perfect because you can scroll down x amout of scenes by hitting it x amount of times really fast, the knob method has to be dialed in carefully if you want to select a specific scene..
i would like to set my bcr 2000 to scroll up and down the scenes with 2 buttons... but i have to do double clicks on the buttons to go up and down... how can i change they're cc?!
double click means it's sending the wrong value. The first press is 127, which will scroll and then the next clip sends 0, which won't scroll.. Thats why you'll have to double click.. you need to change the button to a "momentary" CC rather than a "toggle" CC message, as far as i know it's not about changing the CC number it's about changing the value it sends when it's pressed.. Hope that helps.
you can use the saturator effects plug in to act as a limiter, it is better that using the compressor as it doesn't lose much of its sound quality. when you drag it in don't change anything just change the output volume to what ever level you want
Not a bad job at all mate!!! Maybe the individual sounds could use some more processing like you said. How long have you been working with ableton?
Oh and another reason why you should keep your levels low is because if one day you decide to get your track mastered, the mastering engineer needs a bit of 'headroom' to work his magic. So always save some db!!
Id keep the fader on the drums to zero and mix the drums appropriately. Kick at 0db snare at 10 or 11db hats at 20db. maybe use some compression on most everything so you get the dynamics you are looking for without turning down the overall volume.
in case you didn't know, you can make the mixer channels a little taller and wider and the db meters display numbers to the side. BTW, how stable has the impOscar been for you? I always liked Gmedia, just always reluctant to jump into new VST's due to stability.
hey venthouse, if your using the BCR2000, why don't you set the controllers for the volume track levels to a maximum value of 87? this will ensure that each tracks volume level never goes above 6db when you crank the knob up all the way, which is what you should be using for 16bit tracks. if you feel the track isn't loud enough, then turn your computers system volume up all the way. then if it's still too quiet, then turn the speakers up a bit. but always leave the master fader at zero.
another ableton user who fails to notice the red bars on the master channel. i know ableton has 32bit floating point, but render your final and look at the waveform. it's probably smashed, rectangles all over the place.
whatever dude, a pro uses his ears not his eyes. What kind of noob are you? Plus it's all about audience. Is he delivering this for duplication? No. Robert Henke's Live sets clip all over. He is pretty much a pro.
a mastering engineer from the 70's or 80's will say the same thing. they'll send your crap back and say, try recording without making the little red light turn on. LOL of course you have to trust your ears, but your ignorant if you think ignoring a clipping light is okay. why don't you just export your audio and look at it?
look at this guys track 3, he has it set to plus 6 db. LOL! you guys are tards man
Your right, but clipping can be a desired effect some times, especialy in electronic music where your trying to get an overdriven effect, if its all read then you got a problem.
uh, no. digital clipping is not an effect, it's not even noise. you have no idea what u are saying. now, clipping on analog gear is used quite often. just go listen to some crystal method, they clip their synths through an old analog tape machine to get that raw dirty sound. digital clipping is no where near the same. sorry.
with analog clipping, you add sound, with digital clipping you lose sound. they're not even close.
How do you scroll up and down / side to side with the clip selection? And then select the clip? IE: can you assign the bcr to do the same as arrows + enter key on a keyboard?
yeah i agree with everyone else, you can see and har a LOT of clipping. Mix everything so the master stays below 0 all the time, and THEN if you want to make it louder you can use a limiter.
I have been working on a new version, changed that kick, worked on EQ & compression and added some other layers. I'll try to update as soon as my computer works again :(
Everything sounds perfect, just try adding some reverb or echo to that bass kick. I really enjoyed watching this video. I plan to buy a BCR2000 sometime in the future, and it's great to see that it can do exactly what I want.
Thanks for your comment. Please understand that for the moment I use the BCR in a very simple way, rather like a mixer and little effect or filtering. Anyway I am very happy with it, and it soo simple to affect knobs in Live!

At the time of this video, I was working with Ableton since 3 months.
And yes for the mastering, since that time I have pretty much "evolved". Should post what I produce now cause it is slightly different :)

Yes I agree Mr Captain, the mix is crap and I did not work on dynamics so it's kind of flat :)
Thanks for the suggestion!

I guess ableton users just happen to love looking at rectangles. I'm gonna clip yo face! :-) The BCR idea is a good one though! Do it! Do it!

Ableton users? No. More like stupid users. Dumb-asses like you do it all the time in any program they use.

Digital clipping is loss of data. Analog clipping (distortion) is used all over the place. Native knows what he's talking about.

did you use your bcr or your keyboard to select clips/tracks etc?
if bcr, how so?
blazetblaze 3 years ago
Everything is done using the BCR, no keyboard, no mouse used. It's very easy to assign a knob or button from the BCR to something in Ableton Live.

Ctrl+M (midi map mode on PC) and then you'll see a scroll assignment somewhere at the right.

currently looking into getting a BCF2000. Your pretty much using it exactly as i would. Glad to see it works with ableton live.

Thanks for your informative comment. And this kick sound really sounds horrible I admit it!

I'd agree the arrangement is nice. But the actual sounds need some work. Especially that kick, which sounds just horrible imho.
But well done, it was a nice way to spend my 5 minutes, keep it up.

very excellent song BUT the kick is way too clippy.
but arrangement and variation is very very good.
