its all about expression, dedication, and most of all knowledge! knowledge is a biggie cause some dont know where the culture began and how its evolving! keep at it and you'll become more aware of what it truely means to B A Bboy/Bgirl
i/ve been bboying for 3 months i will start calling myself a bboy when i have toprocks to foot work and footwork to a freeze and maybe a powermove haha
No one shuld call them sealf a bboy or bgirl if u just started. i dident call my sealf a bboy till i was 20. ive been breakin for 15 years i am now about to be 24. to me ive been a bboy for 4 years the thing is style power freezz footwork origanl fresh strong all these things make a bboy or bgirl but the tru ish is freestyle and flow master your body master your soul have fun n ride the breaks.
Im around u can catch sum vids this just look up bboy kid cruz comment or whatever u want
Im really surprized at some of the terrible answers....one quote that people should know is 'Moves cannot outclass Flava' (Bboy Born) basically its all about the funk, the feeling and the soul, doing just the moves is only a fraction of what it is to be a Bboy/Bgirl. knowing the culture and where it came from shows you are dedicated, otherwise it is just ignorance. I will be posting a video of the legendary Bboy POE ONE on my space within the next couple of days check it out to get an idea.
I will be honest if you only know like one move in bboyin and you consider yourself a bboy or a bgirl , you are a bboy its just that you have to be dedicated to learn more. im like if you know if this is what you wanna do forever than you can call yourself a bboy or bgirl and just be faithful.if its just a thing for fun then no but, if you are doing it for fun and serious about it you can call yourself a bboy. and honestly i don't really have any main sets i do i just do whatever my body feels
Y'all r all missing the point sup B-Boy D.D. And not double D I mean D.D. As in GO in viet but back to the point b-boys/ b-girls break because it's what they love to do like me I've been dancing my whole life and only started b-boying last year and can do one completely clean flare but that's all because I strived to get better at all the other things I have problems with just say someone can't dance means your saying you suck also but you use that as a motivation to keep on going so I don't
for the sake of bboying, hip hop and all of humanity : STOP YOUR WHORING AND SODOMIZING SINNER, I SHALL CLENSE YOU WITH MY BLOOD......AAAAAAARRRRRRRRHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
Well, i think same. You see true bboy or bgirl if u watch inside yourself and when u are aware whats going in your mind if u listen music =) For example, i imagine my seld dancing all the time, everyday and i do it for real. If i cant dance 3 days then i go crazy but there are bad times when theres really difficult to dance but i guess its normal and u just need to be strong. BBoying is lifestyle and should be your life, not a hobie or something what u do sometimes. LFE yo... peace!
Bboy/Bgirl in my opinion is someone who truly understands/feels the music that they are dancing to. They understand rythem, musicality and most importantly creating their own flavour. Just being yourself and enjoying one of hiphop's best creation.
Most people think, bboying/bgirling is doing flips, powermoves and crazy ass freezes but they dont see the truth behind the dance. Sure flare or windmill is dope but do you understand or do you feel the energy that is in the dance. Hope this helps :D
wohoo , my friend sent me here. he said bad things about you.... but you are way way different then that <3. anyway can we keep in touch? add me facebook/abood.shady . btw I make traliers and upload about my country we got bgirls too here watch my channel if you like :D / peace
in my opinion ,bboy/bgirl..is a life style is not only danceing is everithing about bboys so many bboy/bgirl is forgot wht is really mean bboybgirls...and just dancing for hobbies or something like that. the other Cuestion is WHY DO YOU DANCE ?? IS FOR EVERY ONE!! BBOY 4 LIFE OR DIE! TNX PEACE!
in my opinion, i think that ur a bboy or bgirl if breaking is more than just something you do for fun, but you have a passion for it and you respect it.
As for your question.. my answer is far too long to fit within the 500 character limit that I'm allowed.. I think it's better to say what a bboy should do, not what a bboy "is" - a bboy should: learn the history of the dance and the dance itself equally! the younger generation of bboys (sorry not all of you but many) only care about moves, and their own opinions ie. internet judging.. rather than gaining knowledge and then passing that knowledge to others. yes it evolves.. but know your roots.
For those of you who say bboying is a "lifestyle" for you .. do you even know what that means? a lifestyle goes beyond practicing as one person said .. "9-10 hours a day"? lol. many of the pioneers don't practice that much if at all anymore.. so by your definition of a lifestyle (amount of time you practice).. they would not be bboys anymore.. ? a lifestyle adapts and changes to whatever is happening in the rest of your life, not the amount of time you spend on it.
"A breakdancer has no style or orginality, but they'll probably gonna have some pretty incredible shit because they practice so hard. A bboy dont really care about a dynamic move, they're gonna care abotu a dynamic style."
-Bboy Kmel
Learn all of the foundations and basics. Have knowledge of the dance. Start developing your own style, start putting your own personality and creativity to the dance. :)
@BBOYkiingKONG You wouldn't happen to be king kong from MN? Dope response, a lot of the people here haven't even been to jams so they wouldn't know the "real" side of the dance, not the shit on youtube. Thumbs up.
Before someone can form an opinion about this culture they need to have experience. Point blank. Peace.
wow thanks for making this video. My friend said i was a fake bboy but yet im the one always staying in practicing and progressing. for example I can do 1 flare, some freezes, some footwork and my one friend that has been breaking for a year isnt really dedicated as i am. Am I a fake bboy? Is my friend a fake bboy? are we both fake bboys?
my opinion on bboy/bgirl weither its power moves, foot work, top rock, freezes, combos, abstract, creativity, or just going all out... the personality can be seen through how the person uses his dance..its how u can define your self when you dance and show that you have the attitude of a bgirl/bboy. personality is what shows when the person get really into it and it doesn't matter what he does or how he/she does it as long as its with a bboy atitude then its bboy/bgirl..you dont need to
you not a bboy if you cant toprock. bboy is the dancing element of hiphop. for a bboy, you have to be in tuned with the culture of hiphop cause without you're basically just an acrobat.
What makes a bboy or girl? Hard question to answer since it's not really concrete it's everyone's own opinions. For me, it's the dedication, you seek the knowledge, understand the culture, and always evolving, like for instance, you know how to do "a flare or an air chair" you don't stop there.
Your experience/skill in the art does not matter. Second you start it, you are it.
Like Haivo said it's respecting the old and reaching for the new. I think it's also about how the dance effects you as a person, you learn how to do it and it opens you up to new people, music, perspectives ideas and becomes more than something you do It's a part of who you are. It's about wanting to dance not wanting to WOW people or win big battles, just getting in the cypher and expressing yourself as honestly as you can through the way you move.
well what makes a bboy to me is that everyone is having fun and a good time its not to be all serious and like im going to win all the time. just hav fun with what move you gotand your crew. like i dont bboy to beat anyone i rather lose and hav the best time ever than win and be all serious.
IMO, I think a bboy/bgirl is one who is into what they are doing, willing to continue, willing to take criticism, and willing to help others. Also, a bboy/bgirl doesn't mean just doing a repetitive move or just being a "pure" power-head and just not do anything else. A bboy/bgirl has all the fundamentals and move on from there, expressing themselves and influencing others.
A Bboy should be defined by how they respect others, not their skill level. There are so many breakdancers in my area who are cocky as shit, immature, and bash on those who are worse. One thing I believe a bboy is supposed to have is respect. They should be motivating those around them rather than treating them like dirt. They should be helping out those who are worse rather than laughing at their face. They need to be understanding and willing to help. Most importantly, they should be humble.
a person who is devotes his/her time to bboying, a person who is dedicated, original, and loves what they do. That's what i believe is a great bboy/bgirl.(applause)

Necessarily ONE particular thing or SEVERAL things doesn't make a B-Boy/B-Girl.
It's the basics and fundamentals that develop you into that,
but in my opinion every B-boy or B-Girl has their own style.. and your own style is what makes YOUR B-Boy/B-Girl definition. Just my 2 cents. :)

What makes a bboy?
It's your attitude, it's your flava. It's learning all the foundations.
It's respect, study and live your culture!
There's a big difference between a breakdancer and a bboy/bgirl. It's not just learning a powermove/freeze or handhops.
And of course, a bboy/bgirl is always inside the circles! cyphers, baby! ;D haha
well, that's my opinion
peace, respect
