How can an explosion perfectly divide his face in half? At least The Dark Knight had a better explanation as half of Harvey's face was wet with chemicals.
I remember this was so famous when I was a kid. We would all talk about who are favorite Batman villain was. But the origin of Two face was always the thing every kid was afraid of.
Usually when you hear a male scream in a movie or TV show, it sounds ridiculous because men aren't really trained too well on yelling and screaming usually. But the scream at 2:20 is easily the most diginified male scream/yell I've ever heard in anything.
The guy with the white hair sounds like the cop from Killer Clowns from Outer Space, but Two-Face sounds like him as well, yet Harvey doesn't sound like him so did they hire one voice actor for Dent and one for Two-Face and that white haired guy?
One of the greatest moments in the entire show. Perfectly captures what Dent's going through as he falls over the edge into the possession of his own demons.
@Regenmacher175 I read the guy in the 89 Batman was supposed to play twoface in a later movie, but too many issues arose. I'm not sure how a black twoface would look though. I guess it could be done but I can't picture it.
Doctor: Harvey, I don't know how tell you this, but half of your flesh was melted off by that vat of toxic chemicals. You're going to spend the rest of your life a hideously disfigured abomination shunned by society.
In this series Harvey is a man who gives in to the anger and rage he feels-something we can all relate to sometimes. And in The Dark Knight he is a good, decent man who is overwhelmed by the sickness he confronts, for which who could blame him. The idea is that he is a tragic character because in his place most of us would feel inclined to do the same thing.
Nothing will ever be as good as the animated series also the new catwoman in the upcoming movie doesnt have that sexyness and hotness like the others.. her suit is ok at best i guess
Two-Face is a perfect representation of the human condition. The noble, just side, characterized by the super-ego. The dark, impulsive side, vilified and shuned, growing in anger and resentment, characterized by the id.
And in between, the poor ego, bruised and lacerated by man's continual self-misunderstading and self-castigation.
Darkness and light...both merely two sides of the same coin.
Now why didn't the movie The Dark Knight have Harvey Dent become Two-Face the way this animated version did? I still think this is Graphic even for a 90's kids show.Aahhhhh, animation, video games and comic books. Always better than the real thing. But most Americans believe, "if it's live action, it's better". COULDN'T BE MORE WRONG.
@viciousclan I don't know why they didn't do that. I know in the comics Harvey becomes Two-Face when a mobster named Sal Maroni throws acid at his face and he dosn't get scarred from an explosion like in The Dark Knight or the cartoons. In Batman Forever even though the movie wasn't that great they explained how Harvey became Two-Face just like the comics did by getting acid thrown at his face. Maybe taking something from a cartoon interferes with Nolan's "realistic" approach to his films.
This ep always resonated for me. When I was little I always bottled my anger up till it exploded in temper tantrums, and for that teacher's and counselors deemed me crazy and wanted me locked up. It never happened, thank God. But I can understand Harvey's holding his rage back, till it becomes practically another person within himself.
@Expendable2010 Hahah regardless of his resemblance to The Rock and Hades, this is undoubtedly the best handling of the character throughout all of the Batman mythos.
Love how dark the show was. Even watching it as an adult now and it still surprises me, seriously, new superhero cartoons can't hold a candle to this!
This was aimed at adults and teens not just adults, it aired every 5:00 during prime time and it appealed to all ages. I watched this when i was 11 when it first aired and loved it because i grew up with Batman since 1989.
For many reasons, I like this version of Two-Face's origin more than the one in 'The Dark Knight'. Biggest reason: I like how this episode previously established Harvey having multiple personalities.
@GoldenFlither15 I agree. Also, Harvey was given a whole lot more, um, character(s) in the animated series. I especially love the last bit of humanity he has being released as he says goodbye to his fiancee.
@GoldenFlither15 I had mixed feelings about Eckhart's Two-Face. He looked freaking perfect, like he really did have half his face blown off, and the obsession with fairness and everyone having a 50-50 chance was spot on. But they missed the whole interior struggle and the multiple personality facet.
The doctor and nurse. Were extremely frightened when the bandages came off, when i was seven years old. Back in 1992 i had nightmares after watching this. I watch it today and say its just cartoon. I dont let it bug me, the movies are more better
@Johnlindsey289 Yeah, Richard Moll was great as Two-Face and he did sound a lot like he did as Big Ben in House. lol. He was really great on the tv show Night Court too.
@Johnlindsey289 Don't forget that John Vernon also played Sherman Krader in Ernest Goes to Camp. He's another favorite actor of mine and he was great as Thorne. It's kind of funny how Thorne looks almost exactly like Marlon Brando. lol
many of these villains had sad origins just like batman, but they chose to be villains, Mr Freeze, Two-face, riddler, each one had good intentions but where transformed into monsters. that is a reason i like the series so much.
oh no i didn't realize, i actually thought that there is a guy with have burnt face running around, as well as a lady who commands killer plants a gigantic freezer man, and a homicidal clown running out there. yes i know but many comic characters reflect on real life characters and also act out the emotions and feelings of real people. otherwise why would anyone care about them at all.
@madman101ish still you feel for the guy. regardless i still thing the poor bastard had a choise. but i guess thats what makes him a good villian. some one who works hard for the comon good turned into something like that. bad sad and horrifing at the same time. you know
@MrTrilliondollarman I am. I wasn't interested in this show when it first came out, but now after seeing his reviews of this show and seeing The Dark Knight, I really want to give this series a try!
It's odd. Here only the left half of his face got messed up from the acid. In all the other episodes that feature him at least his left arm and hand are, too.
the only thing i didnt like about the portrayal of harvey dent in the Dark Knight movie,, was that they didnt make him Bipolar,, they made him to str8 of a guy that joker turned bad,, they didnt give harvey his psycological issues , making him bipolar, which was dissapointing
Harvey's transformation freaked me out when I was a kid, especially does images that you saw glimpse, when Harvey was hypnotized. I never saw anything more violent than this episode and I was just a kid then.
This was the first episode of the series I ever watched. I was 7 at the time.
Those final images, the scream, the lighting across his ruined face, the open window and flapping curtain, they've stayed in my mind ever since. This is THE scene that always comes to mind when I think of this show.
If you can believe it I only managed to find and watch the second part of this episode a few months ago, and I'm 23 now!
And the series is still as good now as it was back then.
@TheJboy88 Dude me too and I never watched TV shows as a kid, except this one. Two Face in Batman Forever=The Joker. Two Face here=nothing like The Joker. Fuckin scary mate.
@Mr5u1cid3 also i guess arkham city is a more realistic portrayal (no skin, exposed muscle/flesh) of his disfigurement rather than the stylised blue in BTAS and the comics.
@Leatherbubba well if u really wanna think about it as an in universe example, they might have been able to operate more successfully with the rest of his body, but after his breakdown, Two Face decided to fuck it up himself to match his face.
Of all the villains on TAS, Two-Face and Mr. Freeze have to have the saddest origin stories...makes you wanna cry, doesn't it...they were good people, but due to the rotten people of this world, they were forced into what they have become - monsters.
I guess the show tries to explain strength of character - Bruce Wayne too was traumatized by the very same people that caused the suffering of Dent and Freis, but Bruce never let hatred consume him...
There are so many different stories of how he became Two-Face. Like: he was exposed to radioactivity, he caught fire half his face, he got hit by some weird paper...
How can an explosion perfectly divide his face in half? At least The Dark Knight had a better explanation as half of Harvey's face was wet with chemicals.

Mr5u1cid3 9 months ago
@Mr5u1cid3 because this show is the best representation of batman...
mrharoldb 9 months ago
@Mr5u1cid3 also i guess arkham city is a more realistic portrayal (no skin, exposed muscle/flesh) of his disfigurement rather than the stylised blue in BTAS and the comics.

@Leatherbubba Wow you're right I guess it's a rare hollywood error...now what they should have done was wrap it in bandages
historyfreakfroman 9 months ago

Must I go on?
