  • the cellulose adhesive on vinyl tapes will slime or harden overtime. theres gotta be a better way.

  • now when you're installing this shit, per se, we're going to put a bunch of aluminum foil on it and top it off with a nice plastic bucket, to make sure your shit looks as hillbilly as possible.

    Banjo guy, play me off!

  • Hey David not too many of you tackle the vertical sliding window issue vs the Horizonal top to bottom closing window. Everybody has tips on this, the a/c comes with those kits and stuff but the other deal is where people really need pointers. Get on it!!

  • I installed this while drinking moonshine.

  • we pay billions of dollars per day for "energy" programs, enough to provide our life support. in the US alone, thousands of "local" governments take trillions of dollars per year plus theft and commission. they block access to resources to force us to pay taxes and fees to their private partners. most structures in the USA are defective, and the commercial dominators will not let an example of anything different or permanent be seen. i have plans for new systems! - james mcashan for US Senate

  • does he say, "Now when installing this shit in?" hahaha

  • ReGo001: Sorry for the delayed response. The unit needs to be slightly tilted towards the back of the unit. The moisture the unit takes out of the indoor air has to drain. There should be drain holes on the bottom back. If you can access the unit, make sure these are not clogged. Once the unit is repositioned you should notice the water dripping out the back.

  • i installed my window ac unit and it has been running for 2 months non stop with no issues, but now it has started to leak indoors on the left corner ruining the floor underneath it...what could be the cause of this?!?

  • @ReGo001 Either your unit is not leaning outwards enough or the drain holes on the outside bottom are clogged and the condensation water is collecting in the bottom pan and backing up until it leaks on the inside.

  • love the information the video was really good thank you

  • What are the dimensions of the pipe wrap you used? It looks like Amazon.com only has 0.5 x 3 feet and 0.75 x 3 feet and they call them "insulating foam pipe sticks." But what you used looked a lot thicker. Is Amazon referring to the same item you used?

  • this had nothing to do with INSTALLING the dam thing. It should be titled how to conserve cold a/c and keep the critters out.

  • can humans drink the condesation from the bucket? I dont got no plants but i got plenty of kool aid and sugar... cool if i make some kool aide from the air conditioner's condensation run off?

  • Very informative. Too bad I can't install one of these babies at my place

  • AquaCarb - It's hard to tell what type of brace would work best for your window. Perhaps you can take a photo of the inside and outside of your window along with the measurements of the window and the AC and someone at your local hardware store can help? As far as bugs getting in, if the holes are sealed up as suggested in the video, it should stop the bugs. Look for areas where light is coming in to help make sure that everything is sealed up tight.

  • thank you , you really covered everything

  • I dont have mine out the window because it is a big heavy one - 13,000 BTU so I'm looking to se how to brace the AC so it doesn't fall to the ground. Plus the window is wider that the AC so I get bugs coming in and then they die in the light fixture on the ceiling.

  • Good video but the background music is annoying which makes it hard to concentrate on what he's saying...

  • Thank you sir.!!

  • Thank you David, Your info is just what I was looking for!!!

  • If the construction permits, it might be best to cut a hole through the wall and mount a regular window a/c instead.

  • There are also free standing a/c's that look like a dehumidifier that you can run the exhaust heat out a vent through the window. Regrettably one would have to fill most of the window area with a piece of plywood through which the exhaust vent could be installed. The water collected also has to be emptied periodically. Whether these would work on all sliding glass windows would depend on their size.

  • They actually make (or made) a vertical window a/c for such an opening. Not sure of their availability though. I suspect they are mfg. for older high rise apartments where such windows abound. Hopefully they come in different widths since those windows may vary a lot in size.

  • What if you have a sliding window?

  • you sound like my uncle rocky >_>

  • Definitely the most down to earth, rationale person . Period. Great job man, I like what your doing. Keep up the good work

  • This is very unhelpful in terms of actually installing an A/C on to a difficult window sill.r

  • This guy is a genius. That is some of the most sensible advice I've heard in a while.

  • you sound like the narator to the ol'dukes of hazard show

  • I wan the windows air conditioner that is very quiet. I mean, QUIET! And I want my room cold like a refrigerator, not just cool, so I can sleep well. I want to breathe the cold air into my nose and my body while it makes no noise at all and that's how I sleep well. Which one of the windows air conditioner would do that for me? I need 6500 - 8000 btu.

  • my dumbfuck college doesnt provide A/C so ive taken it upon myself to buy a unit and this upcoming semester i intend on installing it in the window..they wanna save money by cutting energy costs..you have to have a DOCTORS note to get an A/C unit in your dorm..well guess what? im buying it myself and i will intentionally blast the shit just to spite your greedy heartless asses.

  • @xXxhybridmeteoraxXx Spoken like a true American.

  • @xXxhybridmeteoraxXx You have to have a doctors note to have a freaking A/C unit? What the hell! Glad I'm not living on campus.

  • Thanks great tutorial... saved my life!

  • Very good suggestions. Thanks for that, sir.

  • This isn't a video about "how to install" if it's already installed during the entire video. You should consider renaming this video to something about using it conservatively.

  • I'm about to move into a place with window AC units in DC. Thanks for all the tips. The wooden dowel one wasn't something I would have even thought of.

  • I would suggest putting foil covered insulation board on the side areas and using removable caulk to hold them in place. The foil will provide will help keep some of the water out but you might still have to replace it from time to time. The insulation boards come in big sheets but usually you can get them cut at the store, if transporting them is an issue.

  • what do you do when it rains heavy and the rain water leaks thru the side panels and duct tape doesn't work

  • You can charge window AC units with freon. It is not generally considered a do-it-yourself project. You will need to call an HVAC contractor so he/she can fix the leak, add a port, drain it, recharge it, etc. Unfortunately it is usually cheaper to replace the unit vs. fixing it.

  • anyone know if you can re-charge window air conditioners with freon?

  • 1:05 "NOW WHEN YOU'RE INSTALLING THIS SHIT" HAHAH

  • @hypeddt216 he's saying when you are installing this unit :-)

  • @hypeddt216 omg LOL i really loled!~~~ :)

  • @hypeddt216 "this unit"

  • @hypeddt216 He clearly said : "This unit"..... Seems like 19 people can't understand a Missouri accent.

  • @hypeddt216

He said "this unit" not "this shit" but i can see how you heard it that way. Gave me a good chuckle.

  • @hypeddt216 hahahahahahahahaha!

  • You're awesome! Seemingly simple tips, but my husband and I were at a loss for safe apartment installation as we live in NYC. Thank-you for the wooden dowel tip!

  • jbchem1 - You won't be hurting the performance of your AC unit. The air for the unit is drawn in through the vents on the machine. You should stay more cool by sealing up the window and keeping the warm, humid air out with the foil boards on the side.

  • This guy is a BEAST!!!

  • I like your tip about using foilboard on the sides on the exterior to protect the sillplate. my storms are about five inches from the double hung, so i would be enclosing about half the openings on the side of the unit. will this hurt my unit/ performance ?

  • Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee HaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaW !!!!!

  • There are casement window air conditioners although you sometimes need to seal up the upper portion of the window with a piece of plywood. Do a Google search on 'casement window air conditioners' to review the products out there.

  • Are there any air conditioners for a casement window? If so, what's the name and where can I buy one?

  • do we really need to listen to the banjo music in the background, feels like an opening to hee haw!

  • @doubletap11 How ungrateful.....

  • i have absolutely no interest in installing a window air conditioner or even knowing how to do it, but i like this video

  • @seajist thank you very much!!

  • thank you very much. i have been waiting for my super to install a window unit and he is not in any hurry. it's a little harder being female because of that lesser upper body strength (lifting up a window unit is hard!) but now i feel more confident that i can do this myself without having to depend on this character. that you.

  • @cityotter Very glad to be able to help! Be sure to refer back to the channel for more ways to become more energy efficient in your home.

  • @cwlvideo please tell me what is the stuff that come with the air conditioner at 1:30!! reply me fast i have to buy 1 tommorow

  • @thehahahacomedy -- all he's talking about at 1:30 are some flat pads of polyurethane foam which may be sold under the name of "air conditioner insulation kit" or something like that. The foam may be shaped like "egg crate" material with lots of peaks and valleys on one side, or it may just be flat on both sides. It's essentially the same material he's talking about at 2:50, although he call's it "spongy rubber". It's really, in most cases, also polyurethane foam.

  • @ichigorobei Does it come with the window air conditioner cuz i bought a portable and it fucking sucks

  • @thehahahacomedy Sorry I couldn't reply sooner, but I had to rush off and install two of those portable A/C units for my kids' apartment. Yes, they usually supply some of that foam material with the air conditioner, but depending on your installation requirements and the idiosyncrasies of your situation (like having to work around security grating, unusual windows, etc.) it might not be enough or the right shape. Home Depot sells a 3-foot strip for about $2.40 that is about 1.5 inches thick.

  • @thehahahacomedy I don't know whether you bought an A/C unit yet, but I was concerned about getting a portable A/C unit because they don't seem to be as efficient as the window units, BUT I had to buy two anyway because of the limitations of the situation for installation. I got 2 Frigidaire 9000 BTU portables, about $320 each, to cool my daughters' apt, and even in a 95-degree, solar-loaded, high-ceiling apt. they seem to be doing well. At least my kids think it's cool. Good luck to you!

  • What did the person at the store say was wrong with the install? You will want to make sure it is draining out the back so the water it is taking out of the room doesn't end up dripping down your window/wall on the inside. Because you can't seal it from the outside, you will want to do all you can to make sure no outside air is coming in. On my unit, I find between the two windows at the top and along the bottom of the unit are where the biggest leaks happen.

  • Do you have tips on proper installation of an AC on 3rd floor or above? I recently had an installation specialist install the plate and AC in my apartment and after showing the pictures to the applicance specialist at the store they told me he did a horrible job. Yet when I called and spoke to the Installation Supervisor I was told different.

  • Seen a lot of Window AC Installation videos, and yours is by far, the BEST. Great tips!

  • I am on the second floor and I tried to make one of those foils with my baking foil. I ripped holes in it trying to get it on from the inside. I probably made everything worse:*(

  • @alix1962 Were you trying to use the foil to cover the sides from the outside? How are you able to reach it? What caused the foil to rip?

  • @cwlvideo No, I was trying to cover the outside of the wings from inside my apartment:-D I started out fine, but as I worked my way to the bottom, I pulled my hands back in and tore it. I think next time I go to the hardware store, I'll get some double-sided sticky tape and more foil.

On the positive side, it rained the other night and I didn't get any leaking, so my half-cooked idea worked. At least for the night.:-)

  • @alix1962 Well that is great! Glad some of our advice worked!! Sounds like you have a sound plan of action to take care of your problem indefinitely! Great job!

  • @cwlvideo I'm so glad I found your video! Thank you for making it!:-)
