  • very good. had a good touch.

  • @Pohter

Thank you for listening and commenting!

    allen

  • loved it - some beautiful chords in there. My focus as a guitarist is solo acoustic, and i would never have thought of arranging this song in particular but it works brilliantly. I've uploaded a few myself so feel free to have a look if you have the time.

  • @jonash154

Thank you! What a great tune. This is my favorite song by Queen. I think I posted a link in my extended comments if you want the tab.

    Cheers,

    allen

  • @carvetop01 I'll have a look at the tab for sure. Thanks Allen

    John

  • @carvetop01 I did have a look at the tab - plays really well - great arrangement!

  • Just enjoyed listening to this again. What a beautiful rendition of a moving piece. Cheers, Paul

  • Hey allen,

Expanding my horizons again? I have a big vacuum where pop music ought to be so I didn't know the original or the band but I love this rendition anyway. Great playing,

    Hashi

  • @hachamacha

    Hashi,

Glad I could be of some service :O) I first heard the song from the movie "Highlander". Thanks for listening and your kind words.

    Take care my friend,

    allen

    Have a wonderful day,

    allen

  • Nicely dreamlike, Allen. Beautiful tones. Love the video effect.

    Hope you've been doing well.

    MV

  • @MisterVirtual

Thank you. I darkened the harmony some. I resisted my natural tendency to over harmonize (which I do frequently). I think a tune like this should be as uncomplicated as possible. It is beautiful as written by Brian May.

    Thanks again,

    allen

  • what a wonderful version, i like it *******

  • @1wiesehoefer1

Thank you for listening and commenting!

    Cheers,

  • wow ! i must have missed this gem when i had computer problems. :-( i never heard this tune before, being out of the loop. i feel you made this old guitar very happy choosing it to be the vehicle of your soul .very nice Allen !

  • Beautiful warm sound....Allen, wish you could accompanion me.... but you are too far away....

  • @Astrid998

U bent erg aardig. Dank u en vergeef mijn slechte Nederlands.

    Cheers,

    allen

  • Allen,

Rich, full and resonant tone. Taylors are great in the hands of an accomplished guitarist.

    Happy New Year!

    Carl

  • @SoloGuitarist1

Thank you Carl. I have had that guitar over 25 years now. The guitar is very loud and can be a challenge for me to record without it sounding too hot and distorting the signal.

    Happy New Year my friend,

    allen

  • I dont know this tune but it plays very nicely on guitar.... Big sound... almost piano-like.. nice guitar.

Best wishes for the new year

    Leo

  • Thank you for sharing this beautiful video Allen. Man that Taylor guitar model sound like a harp. Crispy clear sound. Love the tune and your playing like always "superb".

Wish you a Merry Christmas bro.

Your Martin Guitar Sound Fucking Good...

    Merry chrismas hermano...

    Stephane

  • @stephanegiovannelli

Thank you Stephane. It's a Taylor guitar. I don't think Taylor makes this model anymore.

    Cheers,

    allen

  • Fantastic! All thumbs up!

Merry Christmas to you and yours,

    Barry

  • @useryug

Thank you Barry. Your comments are always welcome. How is the "global warming" thing working out for my British friends?

    Cheers and Happy Christmas.

    allen

  • @carvetop01

Ah, now I'm glad you asked. - A decent amount of snow, the last couple of winters, reminding me of my childhood.

An interesting statistic, voiced by an airport boss on the television yesterday, is that up until 5 years ago, it hadn't snowed in this country for 15 years. ... hence our almost traditional national unpreparedness for a small bit of seasonal weather.

How's things where you are? - my friend Suze in the Appalachian mountains has 2 feet of snow around her right now.

  • @useryug

    Hi Barry.

Yeah that global warming is a pain in the ass over here as well. We got a bit of snow Christmas day/night. Still on the ground. I wonder how much snow Owl Gore got at his house?

    Cheers,

    allen

  • @carvetop01 hello from france and happy new year :-)

    Cheers,

    allen

  • Twenty-five years old? You've almost got it broken in, then!;) Has a beautiful "ring" to it. Very nice, moody arrangement.

  • @GibsonAndVega

I ordered the guitar back when Taylor was rather unknown. Sometimes when I would call, Bob Taylor was answering the phone. They sure have come along way since then.

Thank you for listening and commenting!

    Merry Christmas,

    allen

  • Hi Allen, Great arrangement! A very thought provoking song. The guitar sounds great!

Thanks man. Brian May did us all a favor by writing this great song.

  • Excellent! What a great sound from that Taylor! Kudos for playing a 5-minute song 'live' and not making a boo-boo....

  • @Johnnydoxx

    allen

  • Beautifully played and COOL choice of tune ..Allen.. Which guitar are you playing ?

  • @SIRONEDRAGON

    Hi Ken,

Thanks for listening. I custom ordered a Taylor 815 (jumbo body) 25 years ago. It's still hanging in there :O)

    Merry Christmas

    allen

  • Oh my God. Allen I have never heard you play anything with as much feeling as you put into this. It has such a nice balance of dynamic, hesitation then a resolving of the suspense. You're talking to the human heart with this one my friend. I'm honored to have it in my favorites.

  • @archtopbrownie

Thank you Lance. I am honored to be in your favorites. Thank you for your input. It's hard not to get carried away interpreting the message of this tune. So many harmonic opportunities.

Thanks for listening and your VERY kind words,

    allen

  • @carvetop01 Did you get my weak effort at "Over the Rainbow"? I'd like your suggestions on it.

  • @archtopbrownie

I think your "weak effort" is a damn fine arrangement and performance.

    Nick

  • @1moreguitarplayer

Hi Nick. Thank you, I am feeling much better now. Thank you for listening and your kind comment.

    Merry Christmas,

    allen

  • This is both powerful and provocative of deep

thought and introspection. Thanks, Allen. So

many people have so many reasons to feel

the weight of melancholia while others are

mistletoe-ing at this time of the year. I think

    this song underscores sober reflections

without wallowing in self-pity. Beautiful job!

And here's to a healthy New Year! hugs ~T

  • @BocaFriend

    Thanks Terry.

Sadly, I think for some people this time of year invites melancholia. We all must examine and balance what we think is good or not-so-good about our lives. How we view our circumstances is an individual choice and is subjective by nature. Adjusting one's view of life can make a big difference. We all have burdens, some more than others. It's not a contest.

I hope you have a VERY Merry Christmas and a better new Year.

    Your pal allen

  • Fantastic piece, and such a warm tone. Thank you for this early Christmas gift. - paul

  • @roseslinger

Thanks Paul. I think this is Brian's best composition. It was a bit of a challenge to arrange for guitar only. I did have fun playing with the harmony without getting lost in the plethora of opportunities to re-harmonize too much.

If you want a real treat, check out Sara Brightman's recording of this tune.

    Thanks again,

    your pal al

  • Korsaro1 mentioned something which I think has a truth, the arrangement shows the guitarists ears, what he thinks is important. Well I think arranging for the finger style is definitely a challenge, transforming a vocal type tune to an instrumental which occurs here. Still keeping the vocal line in tact with respect to the composer and recognizable for the audience. The small but important alterations are necessary to add interest and personality(one's own voice) You've succeeded very well,Vic.

  • @Jazzguts Hi Vic, this was my comment you´re referring to....since yesterday the commenter, the YT-user is under the comment....they always change things...they seem to have nothing else to do;-)))

    Frank

  • @LONGWINDING

Copyright infringement on a comment? :O)

Ich wünsche Sie sehr glückliches Weihnachten mein Freund.

    allen

  • @carvetop01 Yes,haha, if the comment was good;-))) Just kidding´...

  • @Jazzguts

Thank you Vic. Have you listened to Sara Brightman's recording of this song? There are plenty of opportunities to re-harmonize a song like this one. I tried to avoid as many as possible. "Een zeer wijs man vertelde me eens dat een aantal van zijn favoriete notes zijn de kaarten die hij niet spelen." So I ask myself, what would Vic do? I admit I did surrender to temptation a few times.

Ik wens u een heel gelukkig Kerstfeest mijn vriend.

    allen

  • @carvetop01 That was definitely a wise man, I have always loved musicians where you can hear they know much more than they play, it's listening behind the notes and phrasing. Like listening to Larry Carlton in Blues, that man always plays in service of the Music and puts aside his Ego but beware if he has to show his teeth he's a mighty dangerous player who in melodic and harmonic sense sends back most modern shredders back to the school benches, lol, goede feestdagen en een gezegend 2011,Vic.

  • very nice. guitar sounds great. nice arrangement.

  • @MrJimdeb

Thank you Jim for listening and commenting. Like you I do enjoy Queen as a band. Have you heard them lately with Paul Rogers on vocals?

    Merry Christmas,

    allen

  • Danke Allen for the song and the text.

  • @Korsaro1

Vielen Dank für das Hören. Vielen Dank für Ihre freundlichen Wörter.

    Cheers,

    allen

  • Hi Allen, nice to hear you again!!! Oh, I love Freddie Mercury´s voice and intonation, and I like this movie and the song. The lyrics...oh yes, ...

I like your arrangement, would have done it different here and there, 2:22, the Bm is great, the echo ending is a nice idea (for the song´s title is a question, it fits, the unanswered ending)...own arrangements show the guitarists ears, on what he focuses, like an open book.

Very nice, Allen (and the sound of that guitar is superb)

    Cheers, Frank

  • awesome skiils! great job

  • That sounds really beautiful ... very emotionally playing. You gave that song your own voice, Allen!

    Cheers,

    Bernd

  • @BoeckmannLudwig

Thank you Bernd. I realy like this tune. It's a bit out of my comfort zone for playing but I enjoyed arranging and playing.

    Merry Christmas,

    allen

  • Oh Allen, it's pure joy to listen to your beautiful performance of this songl!!! The chords resonate in my heart ... You play very sensitive and your dear old Taylor sounds great! Congratulations! With a bright smile ~ Crystal

  • @CNlyrical

    Thank you Crystal,

I hope you and your family have a great Christmas and a healthy new year.
