@Missnewyork28 I'm not saying anything bad about her so calm your tits. This shows your lack of ability to understand the English language. I said Shawn and Nastia are great, Honey Boo Boo Child.
@BoraBoraGirl2001 You need to get a life. You come here and pretend like you are a gymnastic expert even if you are not. And you pay a little too much attention to myself. That's pathetic. Are you seeking to get attention from me ?
Pavlova soooo shoud of won a bronze on the beam at beijing! and maybe if she had done an amanar instead of just 2 twists on vault she might have done even better and got a bronze in the all around too! As much as Iooooove cheng fei she did kinda rob Pavlova of thet bronze on beam!!! Tanks for posting this! GOOOO PAVLOVA!!!!!!!!!!
@Mustafinafan11 Yup. I love Cheng Fei, but I think she got the bronze because she'd just missed the floor and vault golds which everyone expected her to win based on qualifying and previous performances, so I think the judges decided to gift her on the last EF. Too bad it was at the expense of a gymnast who time after time has been robbed.
I love that she performs--beautifully, I might add--a Kolesnikova AND an Omelianchik, two skills that are vastly underused (and underscored, IMO). Also, I could watch her switch ring all day; it truly is the best in the world.
@MrsShazziePepper1996 omg nastia doesn't even compare! anna would never cowboy her dismount for one lol and there is something seriously wrong with nastia's legs they look bendy :|
@unevercalled Overall the biggest difference between them is execution. The only big problem with Pavlova is that she has untidy legs on twisting element and sometimes she is very inconsistent. A part from that, she has a very few form deduction. Nastia has better landing (she sticks more landings) and almost hit all of her skills regardless of execution (cowboy, untidy legs, leg seperations, bent knees) but she hit. And consistence won over execution that night ;(
@Missnewyork28 I know and completely agree about the consistency or lack there of with Anna, which is a big shame because she's absolutely beautiful in the sport. I just have issues with gymnasts like Nastia who are falsely identified as being graceful or Shawn Johnson who removes any artistry from the sport.
@unevercalled I agree with u about Nastia. I actually think she was a good gymnast before her injury. Unfortunately, the quality of her gymnastics was never the same after that, and she had this arrogant, diva attitude that pisses me of. She has a great potential though but never really explored. I have no problem with Shawn, she's not the most artistic but she tries. COmpared to other FX routines, hers was pretty nice to watch, she had something solid to show. That was really lacking in Beijing
@Missnewyork28 That was before 2005? I love the way Shawn tumbles. It's really quite remarkable and I admire anyone who can perform to such a high standard without wavering. However, this is artistic gymnastics and her leaps and jumps are so bad that she really should have had it ironed out earlier on. I'm surprised her coaches haven't said or tried to correct it. I'm glad in a way that Nastia has carried on because at least she's not using it as a platform for fame (unlike some people!)
@unevercalled Yeah before 2005. Well Shawn is unflexible, she has too much muscles lol she is a very muscular gymnast and they did not develop her flexibility enough to compensate hence her weak leaps. They probably can't correct it now as it's harder to stretch when you're old. Well, Nastia is the olympic champion of how to use your sport background as a way to make money and appear everywhere :D isn't she ?
@shannonigan9 nastia is often overscored and that' not just by my calculation, a lot of ppl on here say the same. imo anna is more beautiful to watch and nastia is more consistent but doesn't mean she's any better
@MrsShazziePepper1996 I don't get why people think she's 'graceful,' although, I think by comparison to the rest of her team mates she would be? I'm just not a fan...I think if you can't perform your tucked dismount well you should opt for laid out or piked
@unevercalled I don't think she would have had enough power. She is not powerful by nature, but the fact that there are lots of hard elements in her routine and that the routine is very long, she was exhausted by the end and could not gather enough power to do a enough hard well executed dismount. That's the price to pay to reach 7.7.
@unevercalled Now, the double pike worth the same than the double tuck which explain why so many gymnasts perform double tuck now, but it used to be different. The double pike used to worth more than a double tuck. But I guess it's a little more difficult and it requires more power.
@Missnewyork28 I think she'd land it so much better lol just thought as a general rule of thumb, taller gymnasts are better at twisting elements and even though she's not that tall, her height seems to play a role in her gymnastics?
@unevercalled Probably but she doesn't have enough power. I've never seen any double back salto in her routines. Her height could have been a reason but there were other tall gymnast like Khorkina or Boguinskaya who were able to be good tumbler too. She is just very "weak" compared to other gymnast.
@Missnewyork28 She could always do a 2 and a half twist of the end of the beam can't she? or would that kill her SV? I love gymnastics but I get annoyed sometimes how it's tainted by reputation and politics.
@Missnewyork28 im sure pavlova has a lot of power. well she's weak compared to shawn johnson, but still. the double layout that she performs on floor requires a lot of height and power. so does the 2.5 twisting yurchenko
@Xixi9512 She is powerful but lacks of endurance though. You can say she is weak compared to Shawn, Shawn has a lot of power. Her DLO is the best I've ever seen :) I love it !
@javito1229 Her UB start value was too low. She only had a 5.7 SV when Nastia had 7.7, Shawn 6.7 (might be wrong, i don't remember exactly) and YYL 7.7 and Pavlova was not overscored like some other gymnast. I wish she was olympic champion because she shows the true beauty of gymnastics. I love her for that, she is my favorite gymnast of all time
@javito1229 Yeah it's not very difficult but still very elegant and graceful. She makes look everyting beautiful.
I think she qualified on the top 8 AA just because she is good on the three other event. She should not waste time on bars, it's since 2003 she hasn't have difficult tricks. She should only focus on the three other event. She is good on bars but the leven has been raised this past decade and the SV are insane. She can't make it.
@Missnewyork28 Shawn had a 6.4, I believe. Pavlova is such a beauty and I put shame on all those judges in Beijing. It was bad enough Yang Yilin didn't get her bars gold. Pavlova's in my top 3. It might sound pathetic considering all three of mine have competed in this decade but my list goes Johnson, Komova, Pavlova.
Yes Pavlova is magic, she shows the true beauty of AG. I absolutely love her new routine, she always have the nice musics, beautiful tumbling, graceful moves and her turns. The half memel turn, can't remember the name was stunning and so was the sort of scorpion turn. Her BB is much improved, she got her vault back and even her UB :p She loves so much gymnastics and she gives to people so much. She is my favorite of all time
@Missnewyork28 Np. She's what keeps many watching this so-called "artistic" gymnastics. I haven't seen her bars, vault or new floor routine yet but I'll bet she has all that. I didn't know she ever had a Y turn, can't wait to see it. I love her beam. I hope she gets credited for the Yang Bo and gets the switch ring leap back. What vault is she using? The Yurchenko+1/2 on+front layout with 1/2 twist or the DTY? Her bars shouldn't have been super hard to get back. She gives more than she scores.
@ShawnVikaKomova2012 Yes she did the Y turn, it was beautiful, controled, great body position. How can she do everything so beautifuly ?
She performed the DTY, a little low but still good. She just needs to work again but she has time and determination.
I want her switch ring back, NOONE does it as beautifully as she does. It's the highest rate leap on beam so she might be working on that to increase ger SV, hope so at least.
@Missnewyork28 Yeah, I know! I like her's the best. Her legs flow through it. The judges want to see a perpendicular body to the beam at one point and I'm not sure if Pavlova does that but it looks better.
Im surprised that with the scoring system there would still be underscoring. I mean she qualified for 3 even finals but she cannot even get close to the medals in the All around...there is something wrong with that picture. I believe the scores over all were way too high for bars for the whole olympics
@LCAmarkymark I know what you mean, I though the same at first. Then I looked up her perfom in qual and either she was way overscored or she was underscored in the AA. She got a higher score in qual FX with a deep landing, steps and other mistakes whereas her AA perform was way cleaner. On BB she has 0.1 difference between qual and AA buth Qual set was a real mess, full of balance check. To me she deserved medal but I agree there were something really weird about her scores.
@LCAmarkymark I'd blame the scoring system for the insane amount of connection and CV possible on bars that give a huge advantage to bar workers and I'd blame the judge for beeing so biaised. They way they scored Anna is one example. She is my favorite gymnast ever, but damn her scores are so weird.
@Missnewyork28 thats what Im saying...back in the 80's if you qualified for at least 3 of the event finals you were also up there in the All Around...I guess it only matters that you hit all your routines on that one night. Maybe they should hold event finals before the all around and account for that in the All around.
@LCAmarkymark Sometimes I wonder if the past scoring system was not better. The one in Beijing sucked in all the way and i'm not sure the new one would be better. maybe it reduced the SV on bars but on beam as well. To me VT and FX are really low scored apparatus and it won't affect your performance as an all arounders if it's your weak event. UB is a HUGE problem when it's not a strong event for a gymnast because the amount of connection is crazy. (Liukin had 0.8 !!! impossible on BB or FX...)
@Missnewyork28 I guess we will have to wait and see...they are always changing the rules...the only consistent thing in all of this is Anna Pavlova and a few other gymnast who have to constantly change their styles and routines to just keep up with the new code.
@LCAmarkymark They do and they till haven't find a FAIR code. It's what I love about Pav, she upgrade the difficulty but she kept her gymnastics and the original moves she used to do. She doesn't have this boring gymnastics, especially on BB with back and front salto, aerial to back layout and other. She may not have medal and she is certainly not code whoring !
shame on the opening aerial pass. when its connected, its not good, its not great... its mesmerizing. she just performs it so smoothly and skillfully and beautifully, you just watch and wish she would do it over and over again
Like everytime, Anna has an original and hard work ! Omelianchik, Onodi, Kotsnekova, triple twist. Amazing. Beautiful execution, grace, beauty. I don't get what she didn't medal at those Olympics ! This routine is so good, the level of difficulty is high and she had mainly a good execution. It's a beam routine not a tumbling routine on 4 inches of wood like we can watch nowadays ! Go on Annaaaaaaa
@JGuan56 Obviously! There is no doubt that Anna was the best beam worker at Beijing, the others just focused more on difficulty. Anna focused on artistry and beauty.
@JGuan56 I disagree..While Anna is definitely more artistic...she didn't connect her skills and had a bunch of small balance checks. Shawn was more precise in her routine
Seriously NBC Coverage sucked, I had no idea there were teams competing other than the US & China, and in the All-Around I only saw one Pavlova routine at the very end of the competition.
If you watch the end of the prelims session with Pavlova on BBC, you'll see her smile and wave to the camera. She looks depressed because she's extremely focused.
throughout this olympic, i feel that the judges showed lots of preference to shawn johnson and nastia, though i admit and appreciate there talent and effort. and this made lots of other great gymnasts such as anna, semenova, beth tweddle etc. outside the medal list.
now show your comments, guys. either agree or disagree.
You have to understand Shawn and Nastia are americans, and US is where the FIG can get the most support from.
For Anna and Ksenia, they needs to improve their difficulties and executions. In Beijing under 08 code, if you're not Liukin and you didnt have difficulty, you would end up with nothing.
I don't know if you recall, but Anna did hold the Bronze medal position on vault until Shaun Johnson got a better score and bumped her out. She is always in the running, every time she competes, but she just encounters too many problems on her execution.
Are you talking about the Olympics? Because Shawn Johnson didn't compete in the vault EF in Beijing, and Anna wasn't near the medals because she went too early and was given a score of 0 on one of her vaults.
Yeah, blame the code of points. Gymnasts aren't encouraged to be artistic anymore. They just want you to cram as much difficulty in 90 sec. as possible. I hate it. It's nice to see gymnasts like Pavlova and Liukin that actually care about the dance.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Anna was where being perfect ? She always has at least two problems on her beam, the dismount and her all time favourite half turn, from Athens to Beijing, she didnt perform the move normally for once.
Anna Pavlova is ALWAYS outside the medals. ''Anna Pavlova was in the Olympic event final!'' ''Did she win a medal?!?'' , 'no'. It's because the judges are BLIND!!!!!
They don't know a good gymnast when they see them, and there are few that are as graceful as Pavlova; Except Liukin, who IS THE BEST!
her AA beam performance in athens is one of the for a lifetime! i'm not kidding. she did her first tumbling series so quick and she stuck her landing but not that good in the bof\dy position.
by the way they say that if anna did her ezhova correctly in the ef in beijing she could have got a score of about 16.2(A score is about 7.2)? in this vid she made it well and why was her A score not at the rage of 7?
She didn't get credit for her Ezhova so her A score was immediately lowered to 6.8. Had she done it, she would have exceeded 7.0 in difficulty and 9.4 in execution (she lost approximately 0.3 for that skill alone), which basically means that with a score of 16.400 she would have been the Olympic Champion :-(
The fact that she didn't win any medals shows how great Nastia and Shawn were

shame on the opening aerial pass. when its connected, its not good, its not great... its mesmerizing. she just performs it so smoothly and skillfully and beautifully, you just watch and wish she would do it over and over again

I think she is a wonderful gymnast. i had never heard of her before Beijing, but will never forget her, Her FLOOR is just.............WOW!
sophiejo 1 year ago
i personally think that cheng fei might be a good all rounder... she is excellent on vault, floor and not bad with the beam... just the bars....
secondaryone 1 year ago
She is very good because many girls who are medal contenders in the vault final are not all arounders.
theurbansoul 1 year ago
i prefer her to falter all on the AA, and grab all her AA routines to the event finals!
natalienat518 1 year ago
Wow- she just floats on that balance beam but Nastia had fewer mistakes and a perfect dismount.
muckraker87 1 year ago
i honestly think she did better than shaw johnson did on beam
JGuan56 1 year ago 7
@JGuan56 Obviously! There is no doubt that Anna was the best beam worker at Beijing, the others just focused more on difficulty. Anna focused on artistry and beauty.
Gr33nkiwi 1 year ago
@JGuan56 I much prefer Pavlova's style on beam but Johnson's difficulty and execution score does deserve to be higher
ATTRACT1810 4 months ago
@JGuan56 I disagree..While Anna is definitely more artistic...she didn't connect her skills and had a bunch of small balance checks. Shawn was more precise in her routine
SiressArchAngel 1 week ago 5
@JGuan56 AP had more form breaks and a problem on her landing.

On NBC, we were staring at Shawn and Nastia doing nothing while Pavlova's great beam routine was going on!
ChainChomp2 2 years ago 5
Seriously NBC Coverage sucked, I had no idea there were teams competing other than the US & China, and in the All-Around I only saw one Pavlova routine at the very end of the competition.
naturevalley10 2 years ago 2
There are always other teams in the Olympics(it's a world competition)........NBC only had enough time to show the U.S. team.

i think shes depressed

If you watch the end of the prelims session with Pavlova on BBC, you'll see her smile and wave to the camera. She looks depressed because she's extremely focused.

nahh shes just focused and prolly a lil nervous

throughout this olympic, i feel that the judges showed lots of preference to shawn johnson and nastia, though i admit and appreciate there talent and effort. and this made lots of other great gymnasts such as anna, semenova, beth tweddle etc. outside the medal list.
now show your comments, guys. either agree or disagree.
youcleverguy 2 years ago 8
completely agree, it was just a disgrace that Anna didn't get any medal in this olympics. Such routines deserved a medal.
What happened to her in Vault in EF just sucked.
Semenova, and even Kramarenko could medal as well.
Megrez77 2 years ago 6
You have to understand Shawn and Nastia are americans, and US is where the FIG can get the most support from.
For Anna and Ksenia, they needs to improve their difficulties and executions. In Beijing under 08 code, if you're not Liukin and you didnt have difficulty, you would end up with nothing.
yueshili 2 years ago
that's right!!! si no eres americano no ganas medalla
sinhutabes 2 years ago
I don't know if you recall, but Anna did hold the Bronze medal position on vault until Shaun Johnson got a better score and bumped her out. She is always in the running, every time she competes, but she just encounters too many problems on her execution.
icommentethan 2 years ago
Are you talking about the Olympics? Because Shawn Johnson didn't compete in the vault EF in Beijing, and Anna wasn't near the medals because she went too early and was given a score of 0 on one of her vaults.

i like her style. but why doesn´t she smile abfetr a good exercise ?!?! :(
Sassiiification 2 years ago
Lol, but it's just not fair on her :(. Cheng Fei, eg, had numeras wobbles in her beam final! And Anna was there being perfect, it's just rediculous.
willsbob123 2 years ago
Yeah, blame the code of points. Gymnasts aren't encouraged to be artistic anymore. They just want you to cram as much difficulty in 90 sec. as possible. I hate it. It's nice to see gymnasts like Pavlova and Liukin that actually care about the dance.
can1052 2 years ago
you are wrong. Grandi does value artistry, but only Liukin's artistry, not poor Anna's...
tzhang2 2 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Anna was where being perfect ? She always has at least two problems on her beam, the dismount and her all time favourite half turn, from Athens to Beijing, she didnt perform the move normally for once.
yueshili 2 years ago
shut up!!! she's perfect!! i love her!!
sinhutabes 2 years ago 5
What exactly is "her all time favourite half turn"?
AnnaPavlovaFan 2 years ago
Anna Pavlova is ALWAYS outside the medals. ''Anna Pavlova was in the Olympic event final!'' ''Did she win a medal?!?'' , 'no'. It's because the judges are BLIND!!!!!
They don't know a good gymnast when they see them, and there are few that are as graceful as Pavlova; Except Liukin, who IS THE BEST!

sqekcx 3 years ago 2
Watch her triple twist in the EF at the 2004 Olympics. Absolutely STUCK landing!
AnnaPavlovaFan 3 years ago
her AA beam performance in athens is one of the for a lifetime! i'm not kidding. she did her first tumbling series so quick and she stuck her landing but not that good in the bof\dy position.
by the way they say that if anna did her ezhova correctly in the ef in beijing she could have got a score of about 16.2(A score is about 7.2)? in this vid she made it well and why was her A score not at the rage of 7?
gyuasg 3 years ago
She didn't get credit for her Ezhova so her A score was immediately lowered to 6.8. Had she done it, she would have exceeded 7.0 in difficulty and 9.4 in execution (she lost approximately 0.3 for that skill alone), which basically means that with a score of 16.400 she would have been the Olympic Champion :-(
AnnaPavlovaFan 3 years ago
what im trying to ask is that since she did her ezhova well here, why is it that her A score is not of a range of 7 in the aa?
gyuasg 3 years ago
In the AA she didn't connect her aerial walkover with the side somi (-0.2 in CV).
