They should be mad at the Federal Government for bailing out the banks &the the auto industry. The fact is business should be allowed to fail if they are poorly ran.
@mg5679 - He told SOME truth. But clearly he has nowhere near a complete grasp on what the movement is all about. Seriously, when you repeatedly punctuate your conversation with belligerent, juvenile terms like "ass douche," you show your cards. And it's a lousy hand.
@mg5679 - Capitalism works until it becomes fascism. The movement IS mad at Obama and the federal government. Have you not noticed it's all over the country, INCLUDING DC? It's called "Occupy Wall Street" because it's from there that the strings that control the majority of Washington policy are pulled. Yes, businesses SHOULD be allowed to fail if they're run poorly. And the fact that the big ones have conned DC into placing all the risk on US proves that the 99% is being screwed.
Here's a news flash for ya, "ace:" Doesn't matter who John Perry is, other than somebody who's willing to call out the pompous ignorance regardless of who's spewing it, and put his name on it. If you want to offer a real critique based on facts, please feel free to take your best shot. If you need more than 500 characters, go to the blog post and knock yourself out in the comment section. Go ahead, "ace!" Let me have it!
@jperryam I would post a critique but I'm afraid I'll hurt your feelings once more. And frankly, why hurt the irrelevant?
But if you want a serious critique, as Carolla said, he pays 50% in taxes and takes virtually back in terms of government services. The so-called 99% movement (which probably represents 10% at best) wants to complain their way to prosperity. The rest of us work and pay taxes to support these freeloaders occupying major cities.
BTW, a slacker is someone who is unproductive. The OWS' very composition is full of slackers who are not working and preventing other businesses from working.
@jperryam Also John, it was Carolla's rant that started the "substantive discussion" that you so wanted, not your little bitch-fit. His rant went viral, yours went urinal.
@jperryam Also, if you want to bring up taxes as a big deal for the poor, then why aren't the occupy movements going to ALL the state capitols and complaining about those? Wall Street taxes NO ONE!
@ace11rothstein: Clearly neither you nor Carolla truly understands what the Occupy movement is all about. And by the way, it IS all over the country, as even you allude to above. Here's another clue for you, ace: Unless your annual income exceeds $500k and your net worth is around $8 million, you're in the 99%. Perhaps you should drop the political bent (and/or the hero worship of belligerent tools who like to say "ass douche" over and over again) and do a little more research.
@jperryam Yes much like the actual protesters themselves, I have no specific idea about the actual OWS gripes (other than derivative tirades of class envy). I also don't understand why the movement has "occupied" Oakland, CA and made it more unlivable.
And just because I'm in the 99% economically, that doesn't mean I'm behind anything the so called 99% is complaining about in their 15 minutes!
@ace11rothstein: Great line about my rant "going urinal." I actually laughed out loud. But the fact that Carolla's went viral does not mean everyone agrees with it. Indeed, there were a boatload of negative comments, many of which specifically stated how they had lost all respect for him...
1) The point is that his video opened up the discussion by reinvigorating the anti-OWS POV.
2) As I posted before, if you want to talk about the 99% as a monolith, Carolla's rant was disliked by less than 99% and TYT's response got more than 1% dislikes. Carolla's rant video got 70% approval in some counts. And this from a guy who is clearly not trying to please everyone.
3) Carolla's "class envy" justifications are not far off from some of the actual OWS motives.
You mentioned that the rich dont pay payroll tax and this I think is true; however, the rest of your examples about property taxes, gas tax, sales tax etc.... does not hold water. The rich have property they pay taxes on, they have to eat and drink so they have the very same expenses as you and I. I will go further and say that they buy more and pay more than you or I as well. They also employ more people directly and indirectly than you or I.
@jocbt - The point is not that the rich don't pay those other taxes in addition to the income tax. Sorry if I wasn't clear on that. The point is the disingenuous claim that half of the people pay NO taxes, and that the 1% is forced to pick up their slack. It not true, as all those additional taxes prove. That kind of lame political rhetoric needs to be called out every time somebody tries it. Most people like you and me are still paying a higher percentage of our income in taxes.
[31] Carolla said of the Philippines, where Pacquiao makes his home, "They got this and sex tours, that's all they have over there.."
In August 2011, Carolla attracted the ire of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation after a podcast in which, referring to transgendered people, he asked, "When did we start giving a shit about these people?"
I'm poor and on welfare too, but it's not my fault. I'd have a job and could work if that bitch of a nurse hadn't rammed a needle multiple times into my spine trying to find the 'right' spot. Oh yeah and how can I forget that faggot who dropped an elbow on the exact same spot where the bitch was wiggling her needle around when I got into a fight not soon after.
Adam Carolla and people like him become successful because they say the things that the wealthy people who control the entertainment like to hear. Just another whore to the rich saying just what we can expect.
people often confuse the 1% for the upper middle class. i can understand the mentality of the minority MTV generation of OWS. i think the OWS movement is training the police and military to acclimate an incremental police state. the conversation has already been established. people know about OWS. it's not accomplishing anything by staying there 24/7. it's time for a slightly different approach.it can also be a double edged sword and turn many people off to it. hence causing divide and conquer.

I'd say John Perry does serious damage with this factually challenged video but I don't know/care who John Perry is.
ace11rothstein 1 month ago
@ace11rothstein Thus he can't do that much damage to himself. If he were actually somebody, he would've done more damage.

@klard Yeah it's a great business model when you appeal to 1 100th of 1% of the American public. LOL!
Seriously, you don't get the #1 podcast in the world (or in the top 2 with Gervais) by appealing so narrowly.

i haven't read 99% proposal yet. i agree though in the least it brings issues to the table and makes people aware.
