what they don't say is that with schools on a limited budget they won't be able to afford a $500 web browser for every student when netbooks are selling for half that
Now if only these were cheaper.... If Chromebooks were sold for $200 - $300, I would actually consider buying and owning what is essentially a glorified web browser of an OS, but to say the least at least it's fast, which is very important in a school environment
@rml695 that isnt brand new though, and why would a school want to lock itself down to web apps which will probably be blocked by the school's proxy anyway? what happens when people are used to word and powerpoint and have to make do with the rubbish google version?
chromebooks can't even print without a pc to connect to for gods sake!
As innovative as this setup is, this will only go good for library computers as well as any setup that only needs web and word processing use. there's no factor for those schools that feature Digital Art classes, Photography & Video Media. This is a great idea, but the most that can be done in today's schools would be part Chromebook and part PC/Mac. And of course we as a Mac school have slow login times, horrid restrictions and other problems. They could use Chromebooks if they had the tools.
My High School needs programs to run. Without Photoshop, graphing programs, and typing software the chromebook would never be put in my school. Besides we are fine with Windows 7 laptops and Smart Boards.
@TheSchweetGal yes and no. No data is stored on the chrome book. Apps, files and documents are all stored online. So you can access it from any computer or device with internet access and in class they can access it on their chrome book. Think Ipad/notebook. Sense all the apps are online there are no updates or install disks. Each unit only cost $299 retail. I am sure Google sells them for 50% or less to educators with the IT training and support.
Chromebooks are the pinnacle of cloud computing done right. Just remember that there's a reason google wants you to store all your personal data on their servers ;P
But If you're fine with that, then I'd imagine it's a great thing to have.
Great, but for education: only 100% open source software, on the personal computer *and* the servers. Another point, is the battery life cycle, what will it be with students connected to wifi/4g almost all day long?
The thing is, the more computers are used in school, instead of texts and writing (note--real writing, that is--not merely printing which slows down and filters students' thoughts too much) the dumber the kids are when they 'graduate'. They know nothing, but Friedmanical economics and other BS. Even my generation knows less than the ones before them, and so on, back until 1900. People today are too easily brainwashed and manipulated by the corporate media. They've become mindless consumers.
@TheRealSpellstar You're in school, you shouldn't be doing something that is not allowed in school. Also, you shouldn't be missing your assignments, they're a part of your education.

@MurderMauu - group policies (controlling what you can and cannot do) in a Microsoft network are only available for Internet Explorer. Just about all IT departments are going to use IE because of this. I'm sure most IT guys would rather have everyone use FireFox/Chrome, but for ease of administration they're forced to use IE.
An actual STARGATE/PORTAL-THING was caught on film in New Mexico. The footage can be found within the short-film entitled "SUDDEN PORTHOLE", which is parked at the PROJECT CAMELOT YouTube page (it's under the George Noory video).

I'm not selling anything…I'm just trying to spread the word about the unseen-dimensions we find ourselves embedded in.
My BLOG contains peripheral data regarding the movie and is where I reply to the "debunkers" (use search words "SAM ZURICK" & "BLOG"). THANKS!!
