It occurred to me that I had assumed that the moon pulled on the side of the Earth nearest it and the Sun the other side. This is wrong. They pull almost exactly the same on all parts of the Earth equally (the difference is insignificant). So they don't stretch the crust, the Earth is always in a state of free fall counteracted by its orbital velocity which keeps it from falling into the Sun.
So why the apparent relationship from observations? Probably a coincidence. Yesterdays was at half moon
Since I started taking notice of the moon phase when earthquakes happen there seems to be a relationship. I reasoned that at full moon the moon and Sun are on opposite sides of the Earth so pull in different directions stretching the crust and relaxing it at new moon when they're on the same side of the Earth. It seemed to make sense and the evidence fit.. Then a physicist said that there was nothing in physics to suggest a relationship so I re-thought it. I also have a degree in physics. (cont)

The only thing I can say is that this morning of 27 February (chile earthquake 8.8) always remember what is the sound of the earth, the cries and the full moon, was the only thing we saw
agreed No way ... its just light from the moon this is dumb. sorry its the truth do some home work. I learned this back in high school. lol NO WAY can it help cause it. that was ages ago.
Well there is a little logic to this old wives tale. The sun's gravitational field also pulls on the earth and affects tides just like the moon. During a full moon and a new moon the earth, moon, and sun are in a straight line and the earth experiences stronger than normal tides called "spring tides". So if the moon's gravitational field had anything to do with earthquakes it would be stronger during a full moon and particularly stronger during a new moon.
However it is still just an old wives tale because scientists already know that landmasses on the earth are too rigid to be affected by these relatively weak gravitational forces.
Do you not know about tectonic plates? Come on full moon does not *cause* earthquakes. It may have a tini tiny effect on land mass the same way it has tini tiny effect on humans or everything in that matter.
Our tide is determined by the moon. It has a serious gravitation pull on water and land. You can see the effect on water easy it also effects blooms on plants and many farmers plat by moon patterns. So maybe it can help the Crust move aswell.
Actually scientists disproved the moon/earthquake scenario long ago. Land masses on earth are just far too rigid, even those land masses with fault lines, to be affected by the moon's gravitational field. In fact the earth's gravitational field is much more powerful compared to the moon's and the earth doesn't cause moonquakes either.
The old farms almanac says the moon was at apogee or farthest point away from earth on Feb. 12th and than at perigee or closest approach to earth on the 27th of feb
You guys are crazy. I'm in no way a scientist but I do observe what is going on around me. There should be an average of 12.37 full moons per year. Well, I live in Georgia and there is a full moon right now at 7:22 a.m. as well as this past Friday and Saturday. Something is going on.
the only reason earthquakes happen is because the earth has these fault lines and the fault lines can crunch into each other, move to the side of one another or the fault line goes from water to land forming a volcano with earthquakes before the eruption of a volcano these earthquakes show that the earth's crust is moving and changing but so little change is caused and once every year the earth's crust moves about 2 cm a year that is how Mt. Everest formed etc but scientist only see the changes
There might be at least some connection. You can take an example from Io, for example, which has geological activity fueled by Jupiter's tidal forces.
I dont' agree. For example the earthquake in haiti. There was no full moon, and the earthquake still happened.. We would have had a point if every single earthquake occured during a full moon-day.
well yes its all about gravity ,every planet in solar system is connected to it
moon largest effects are on the tide and the water is above pushing down the sea floor / tectonic plates and the plates pushing down on the larva the sun also effects are weight depending on time of day
! moon gravity decrease the down pressure allowing larva to go between the plates like oil in a rusty joint ,imagine how big pressure force would increase if the moon gravity wasnt there eek
i also think if they could x-ray the tectonic belts to see the angle of those slopes to alignment to sun ,moon and other body's they could in fact work out when and were high powere quakes will next happen with out recording tremors

He's just wondering about it. No need to be harsh. It's healthy for everybody to stop and think about the things that's happening.

how could a full moon possibly be more likely to cause an earthquake than a non-full moon? u r stoopid

Tremors and earthquakes happen everyday. Go to the USGS site, they display dates, times, locations, and magnitude.

Hey dumb shit who made this video....
A full moon doesn't mean it has more gravitational pull, it just means that light it hitting all of its visible surface....
